Really ? Come on, everything you said not even close...why smartphone keep raising, because of tech, more techs, need more resource which cost more money to make. Second is also hardware, the base model changing every years, from 8gb to 16 then 32 and now 64...also ram , first 512mb, then 1gb, 2gb , 3gb, 4gb...what next, battery, camera, display, and last but not least cpu...technology making lithium ion are increased because the tax had raise in china... so battery keep getting expensive and every smartphone trying to scramp it into a phone as much as possible, this also require technic which have money involve, second is camera, not like from 2014, camera now being one of the most importance parts that all smartphone trying to push more effort on it, so it keep being more expensive each years, display, samsung sold the oled display on ipX for ~499 each...that also the reason why the price jumping too much. And last is cpu, when you shrink down a cpu that is as small as a nano shell, each inch cost tons of money for machine and equipment, and now they all use 7nm which is way expensive than a cpu are on 16nm. Last is marketing ưhich you are not wrong, they did charge quite a lot but they did give you much more custmer service if you compare to huawei, xiaomi or oppo...they are cheaper, like 1/3 cheaper but you have to use a lcd display, old stereo speaker, they may set a backdoor without you relieving and they cut down in all service and build quality, a android from chinese brand live only around 1.5 to 2 years...if your phone being broken down the road, there is no warranty support nor replacement parts. ....if you think computer innovations isn’t worth the money then just buy older tech...set it done. I f4ckng hate those guys who want best, newest but don’t want to pay “innovation’s price”....stop this bullshit or just waiting for those newest tech become more relevant so the budget phone can have it ... jesus

That's why they don't want to make it. Component cost was too high for Apple's taste. The XR that replaces it has cheaper build with cheaper materials. Apple likes to make cheap phones with high profit margins. Good for them but a total rip to the consumer. People are slaves to iOS. Its so bad that many feel they can't imagine understanding or ever using another OS. Its hilarious hearing that from college educated people.

See my comment below: "I see a lot of sold Ebay listings ~$75 and it sold for $349 originally (64GB), meaning it has lost ~78% of its value. Not a huge difference and I don't think it changes the argument of the video, but thanks for pointing that out. I wonder if the source extrapolated their number from a few months or something maybe?"

@@asnaeb2 You can't replace a computer with a phone. You either don't use your computer or you use it. There is no in-between. A phone shouldn't cost more than 500 to 600 $/€. They are making phones unnecessarily flashy and capable just so they can rise up the price. On a pc you can do a lot more because it is designed to do so(programming, editing etc.). On a phone that is supposed to offer you the possibility to communicate all around the world, to do a bit of multitasking, watch videos, listen to music, take some notes, play some simple games and last you 2 years before being able to change the battery... There isn't any reason for a phone to do more. I mean, the concept of a phone starts to stray away further every year. All phones should be affordable. I agree that parts cost and you have to pay for manufacturing, but the price will rise because people are ok with buying OVERPRICED items. Apple just needs to reduce the price on all of it's products by at least 35% and they will see how much profit will get and cover all their losses. Not quarreling or anything, just wanted to express a point of view.

They should make a different device called "all in one". But keep the phone a phone and make a different thing a portable pc. I might not want to admit it, as you said because I can't afford a new premium phone. Still being a student and not being able to work makes it hard. But even so, I'd rather buy a 2k laptop than a 1.5k apple phone. Yes, you're giving me 10gb of ram on a phone, as a pc. Cool so.... Why do I need so much just to do the basics? In reality, manufacturers have parts in bulk amount, and everything is streamline, the true cost for all the parts is probably significantly cheaper than that.
