Another great video! I have my class 2 driving test next week and my class one in March 22. Being one of the new drivers it is awesome (and refreshing) to watch an video showing what the industry can really be like. Don't worry brother, I WILL chase the good money haha! You can just jump straight to class 1 driving test all you need is a category b licence. You don’t have to do class 2 before class 1 anymore 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

@@Ti-do6pz that's what I'm doing now my test is on 19 so for now after 10h on rigid I have 22h on articulated with done first day done and I can say is smooth as crazy and a lot better to drive then rigid. I can really feel size and weight but so far I'm so impressed how smooth is.

I've only been driving class 1 for around 9 months and the first 7 was delivering to the store you are in the video, was in stitches when you was saying how shit it is 😂, when I was there dhl had the contract and payed decent wages with a good overtime rate and you could just work 42.5 hours week and no pressure to do overtime, they also just left you alone to do the work. Culina are just about to take the contract over and are paying £10.60 an hour day rate with no overtime rate, a bit more for nights and weekends but still shocking for the work you do, the warehouse staff are on more money than the drivers. They even had the cheek to say "just work more hours and you'll make up the difference" 😂 (I left a couple of months ago but a lad that still works there was telling me). I really hope drivers don't go there so it forces them to pay more, I completely agree with what you say, it's up to the drivers to set the wages not accepting shit pay. Especially for jobs like that where you're having to maneuver through 7.5t zones and really tight yards as well as self tip. I left for a company that pay more and I'm delivering to big dc's with huge yards and sit watching Netflix while it's being unloaded. It's up to the drivers coming through to set the conditions and pay moving forward, especially with bulk of drivers retiring within the next 15 years. They can not survive without the new blood coming through.

hi mate im looking at doing my class-1 soon, fed up of working in construction sites getting piss wet through in the winter and freezing cold and then roasting hot in the summer - working in every weather leaving my house at 6am to start work at 7.30am then i finish at 5 and get home 6-6.30pm so out the hours for 12+ hours but i get paid for 9 hours, granted its good money works out £20-22 per hour but its self employed so no holiday pay etc. What sort of money are you earning now mate? just interested to know if its worth me doing it or not - i would prefer a day job obviously but if i had to tramp for maybe like 2 or 3 nights a week i wouldnt rule it out!

Been driving class 1 for 3 yrs now after 30yrs of fixing them, I only do agency work at weekends doing days and love it, the£ is very good too, unfortunately though facilities at a lot of places poor and some places you literally have jump through hoops to use them

Your so right buddy, if drivers simply dont do jobs for crap money, the money will only go up. The cash has certainly gone up here in the south west, though you still see jobs for class 1 trampers at £11 p/h....but there are plenty about for £15+. Im only class 2, but earning up to 1k a week, though thats going to drop down to 750 now....

Raul, hi again, Haulage companies are offering £10/hour only, and we can only squeeze £600 a week - Gross Pay, if we include all nights out O/T I know four major companies offering these wages - today! I have challenged each one if them and they won't concede so I just don't take the job! In fact if I look at 20 jobs they all offer £10/hour, today, December 2021. But the agencies are offering £12, £13, £14, £17/hour. You seriously won't get more than £10/hour from haulage companies, which is stupid because drivers now go to agencies and then the haulage companies have to hire from the agencies and pay far more than if they paid their drivers a fair wage - so the cheap paying haulage companies are shooting themselves in the foot by not offering their own drivers a fair wage and so it goes on.

True. Not only that They will take any driver without experience and will cost in insurance when the damage is done. Plus return of a load then they need to cover that to get it delivered. It goes on and on.

@@ertanturabi4741 I work for Hermes as a van driver so when I pass I have a class 2 job but I know others who passed and got a job the next day.... Just remember once you have done the hazard and theory test to get your tacco card it's £32

19:46 You should always merge in turn. There is no need for cars to merge early and cause a long queue of traffic although for a HGV I would understand the need to merge early. Also those roadwork signs may of been left over from the night before if night works are happening.

The highway code says merge in turn when signs tell you to do so. Usually 200 yards before. Doing it early just makes miles of ques instead of short cues.

I drive a petrol tanker here in France,for an English petrol company and it's alot of work but it pays the bills. Hi Roul, great video as usual however regarding to salary hgv drivers in the UK well, not much changes in overall. England class1 35k/year class2 around 30k/year, Scotland a bit less and NI class1 25-27k/year classic 20-25k/year. Forget about 50k-60k a year what fake MSM says. You'll never get it. BTW driving a forklift truck you'll earn much more money then hgv driver so don't even bother to become as a new hgv driver.

The money has always been there always,. The greedy bosses and managers have taken the cream over the last 20 or so years. Basically at 5pm they all go home in there fancy company cars and also turn there phones off. What ever left in the pot is drivers wages . That's exactly what's been going on . Our turn now for a big slice of the cake

I totally agree while ever people are willing to work for poor wages then employers will happily keep paying them. I’m lucky I suppose in that I get £17ph already for days/afternoon shift. We work 4 10 hour shifts a week. No Saturdays and 2 out of 3 Sundays. The most we work is 3 days without a day off. It’s class 2 work we do not class 1. The class 1 drivers in our company are on a different pay deal to us. They’re on annualised hours so they end up on a bit less in reality. However all they do is drive. We actually deliver to our shops, although everything is on wheels. I’d be unlikely to leave to do another driving job. Unless someone is paying me the same or more just to drive and nothing else.

@@Raul689 I did agency work when I first got my license. I know there’s plenty of crap jobs out there. Delivering laundry was particularly heavy work. Now I deliver sausage rolls, steak bakes etc ( you can probably guess who I work for ). It’s far from perfect but there’s much worse jobs out there. Finishing between 10pm and 1am depending on what run you’re on isn’t for everyone.

Morrisons drivers don’t tip the wagons, that’s left for the store staff, currently trying to do my class 1 but the waiting times are longggggg

Quick tip mate, clean your mirrors. From the camera angle all I could see was grey…the sunlight obscured about 80% of view

I'm about to do my practical test soon. I have no family, single... I have not attachement at all. I keep looking around on the internet for jobs around my area and the wages advertised are between £13 up to £20 (the highest I've seen was £24 for a job hauling filming equipment to film sets). As a new driver I assume I'll be on the lowest of wages obviously but can I realistically get to the higher ends of that wage after a while ? Like I said I have no attachments so I'm willing to sleep in the truck, willing to work nights, week ends... Man, if I could I'd really want to go off and drive around Europe too. I have financial issues that need sorting out so I'm looking to maximise my income as much as I can and HGV driving seems like a good solution to that. I'm not the most sociable of people and I enjoy working by myself (always have. In my current job, I was alone for 3 years and they introduced some new co workers, it's not going well, I can't stand the bitching and gossiping). I'm ready to do anything but I'm wondering if it's realistic to expect £4000 a month ? A Romanian driver who comes to the warehouse I work at showed me his payslips and they're crazy... I have to say that he lives in the truck 3 months at a time. Can UK drivers do this too ? Go away for 3 months at a time ? I know what some will say; that I'm dreaming and wanting to do too much as a beginner, that it's no fun living in a truck... I understand. But I'm willing to sacrifice a few years of my life to get to where I want to be financially.

I can’t agree about the lane closures and joining the open lanes way in advance. Unless there is a red X over the lane then it’s still open and should be used up until the lanes close. If people want to sit in a lane or two, miles in advance of the lane closures, then I’m driving past and pushing in at the last minute, saving myself 5-20 minutes. It’s what the Highway Code recommends as well.

Absolutely I’m coming off buses because they don’t pay that great got my license and Cpc ready to be on a class 1 truck also from another country and also won’t start wages like shit as my license cost me so much

Needed a direction in career paths currently work in barjob which i have come to realise is poor wage for quite a physical job ie moving kegs and carrying multiple drinks trays sure is nice to have customer interaction however i think doing something like this would be good but hard work nonetheless.

Is this per hour even you are waiting for unload box or pay you when drive? I know there could be long days on containers but its easy clean job any opinions about that job ? Usually the pay rate is per hour, but some companies are trying to push a fixed daily rate. depends what you are doing tbh. I personally prefer the hourly rate. Best of luck

Hi, When drivers deliver to Asda, I see them sitting in the truck while another person unloads it, just what you would like, all cages too.

im sure its easy to tell new drivers not to take shit wages but sometimes the good paying ones always ask for 6 to 2 years experience so i guess many new drives dont have many options

Ltd is pretty much history. Now most of them only hire PAYE drivers

Watching from Africa,Uganda all mi life i pray always to be a trucker in the UK but hope one day it will come true wat amazed me was the hourly wages 17 pounds are over 68000 shillings and an average job this side a full day from 8 to 5 you are paid just 5 pounds but i hope one day aw make it💪💪💪💪

24:30 It might have changed since I last did Asda (13+ years ago), but I was certainly self-tipping. It was ambient deliveries on pallets, using a pump truck. Sometimes onto a loading dock, sometimes getting the pallet to the back of the trailer for a FLT to take them off. I had a similar problem to you at B&M - the pallets of tinned food and similar were ridiculously overloaded and I often struggled to move them.

I work for Asda (shop floor) and a lot of the time the deliveries are late so the pallets you see are what we have to work as it is, as in they don’t get split down to other pallets to whichever aisle they’re supposed to be on. Dragging them huge pallets out from the warehouse to shop floor with a manual pump truck gets very tiring day after day, like you know they weigh a ton. And trying to navigate them pallets around ignorant customers is a pain in the arse!

@@JReiid Yeah, I think that the people that work in the warehouse forget that they've got powered pallet trucks and perfectly-flat concrete floors, whilst we've got to move the same pallets under human power, and often uphill or over uneven surfaces.

I’ve never done store deliveries but am seriously considering it.., I’m on less money for easy class 1 work and job is local & pretty secure…, but store work nearby offering £18-£20ph paye.., difficult decision as job security is crucial with a family to support & I’ve heard agencies can be hit or miss with work offers, especially after Xmas 🤯great vid as always 👍

@@Raul689 Rarely do you get a situation where the queue starts at the signs. Unless it's 3am. Even then, if you start merging at random distance from the actual merge point it creates more chaos than if people go down to the end using all lanes and merge there in turn, like a zip. That's why we have laws, because more experienced and intelligent people think things through, rather than use their "opinion".

I had it for 5 years, never drove tankers. Only worth doing adr if you have lots of experience

£ 11 - 12 an hour is a disgrace. Bottom line at least £17 per hour.

I'm hoping to pass my test and be job-ready before end of February and ironically I'm near Middleton and recognise where you are here 😂 So are you saying as a new driver not to accept wages that equate to around 12ph?

good luck pal. what i suggest is not to settle for less

I'm seriously considering jacking in my teaching career and doing my hgv licence. I'm used to working 12 hour days at max stress levels 6 days a week, I love driving and watching the world go by. I have no kids or family so would happily do long haul across the continent. Just wondering others thoughts who are experienced or who have gone through a similar situation, am I being naive thinking I could earn more for less stress?

with no kids and no family you would be ok doing continental. just know it won't be easy finding a job without experience. and if you read the comments here you will see a lot of drivers want to hang up the keys as well. just depends on everyone's situation i guess. best of luck!
