I had a crash with the truck

#truckvlog #truckdriver #rtc
The woman in the thumbnail of this video was not the driver of the car, so please refer to any sexist comments
There is a first for everything, and unfortunately, I have been involved in my first accident with the truck.
The good news is that nobody got seriously hurt, but it could have been much, much worse.

As a retired truck driver I was involved in a similar accident many years ago. A car overtaking a truck coming in the opposite direction realised there was not enougth room to complete his overtake. He hit the brakes, skidded across the road and hit my truck head on. It seemed to happen in slow motion. There was nowhere for me to go and 'BANG' His car was written off, my truck was badly damaged. He was cut free by the fire service but survived, like you I was shook up. There was nothing you could have done.

Sir, as an active truck driver i have experienced nothing like this myself. And i am knocking on wood right now. Please let me be spared of having to experience something like that. (btw i am dutch, excuse the grammar and spelling mistakes) I have seen enough on the road already. I have seen a similar situation as you describe. The truckdriver coming towards me could do nothing to prevent the crash. The person in the car, well, they could cut the car into many pieces and find a piece of that person in every cut. As in: There was nothing to gain from cutting open that vehicle. It was over and out. Seeing it happen infront of you, and you cant do anything about it, and you immediately realize it is the end of that person's life.... To be honest: That is a horrible situation as well. The driver of the car, he got off the hook and went to heaven. The driver of the truck will for ever have a PTSD syndrome, most likely. But seeing it happen is just as bad. You wish you had the power to stop it, but there is just no way. Some things happen as if they were programmed to happen and given priority. And, made sure that they WILL happen no matter what. Like Final Destination movies. Like some path they are on. I don't know. But i have seen stuff on the road that makes you think: HOW? WHY? I have seen a guy overtake a lorry in his car. The road ended for him so he had to make some maneuvre. He decided to steer. He could have braked but he didnt. He decided to steer. Afterwards i went over to see if i could help. The lorry driver was ok. The driver of the car? His head was in the glove compartment, his right foot was in the trunk. The car was mangled up so much so that something like that is possible. No need to do any cutting there. But you never ever forget it. This video: As you said and the maker of this video knows: There is nothing he could have done. It is like Final Destination. You just HAVE to accept it, what ever the outcome. Otherwise you go crazy. And let me add: RAUL689 should infact be happy that the occupants of the car got out and did not die. THAT is the best outcome possible in such a situation. Who cares about the plastic and metal?

thank you for the compliment. Often people correct me or just ignore the message and ridicule me for making a mistake. My response to people like that is something like: if you can respond back to me in perfect dutch, then you may have a point. Btw, i do not mind people correcting mistakes i make, but i only accept it if the other person is actually trying to teach me something and not trying to ridicule or discredit the message because of some mistake. When i speak to English speaking people when performing my job (and this does happen regularly), they compliment me for being able to pronounce certain words as if i was British myself. Lots of truth to that. I've witnessed a few RTCs and a couple other bits and the comedown afterwards is always the bit that takes its toll. It's also amazing how debilitated people are after an accident and in no position to drive whatsoever, despite their car being perfectly driveable... I think we are all so unaware of the illusion we have in our bubble and how shattered our bubble can be in a flash.

The truck had a dented front wheel, the tracking knocked out of line, and the steps to the cab were cracked. His Mazda 6 was a mess, whole front end mashed up badly. I got the same arm injury as you plus a back injury for bracing myself. Entirely his fault, all on camera, and it's only now, 15 months later, that his insurance have agreed to pay compensation. They tried to blame the truck driver. What a joke when it's all on camera. But yeah it's scary when you see the damage if someone hits a truck.

Regardless of the car driver's stupidity I believe... 1. The driver of the tipper is supposed to be a professional, and could and should have taken steps to avoid this incident. 2. The driver of the tipper appears to have kept his foot on the accelerator even after the impact, and did not apply the brakes until well after the car had been spun out. 3. I would compare the time stamp of the dashcam footage to the tacho/telematics of the tipper, and if my assumption was correct about not braking, and keeping the power on, I would dismiss him for gross misconduct.

He was in the lane at the right side, accelerated past, cut in front of me and then slammed on his brakes at the lights themselves. Pillock had his back end taken out similar to the Jag in your vid. The bus only had a damaged bumper (the front ends are reinforced!) and I was able to drive it back after the formalities. There's no radiator or cooling fan in the front of a bus, they're all at the back these days. The boy racer's car was a write off, and I even told him off and laughed at him. I watched the footage and you were already at a dead stop when the collision hit. I believe that is the absolute best anyone could've done, no way to avoid the collision.

I unfortunately had my first ever accident too earlier this summer. I was driving 80km/h when a caravan pulled out in front of me from behind a yield sign. At the moment of impact I hit them going about 65km/h. Luckily I had managed to steer away from them and only scratched the side of it. I was also a bit shooked even tho nobody had any injuries and we were all able to continue our days after changing informations. I put it up to see if you are interested.

Hard lines mate, very unlucky. At least you weren’t to blame. Don’t forget to see your doctor and tell him about your injuries. Get everything on record for your insurance claim. Back pain. Wrist pain. Sore knees. Headaches. Insomnia. PTSD. Loss of sexual appetite. Depression. You could get a massive claim 👍

I drove past this on my way to work but I only say a truck at the back, the cars read and door and your truck ahead, so I was thinking what happened there, look like the car got sandwiched between 2 trucks but I think the 1 behind must have been recovery. The bend though has a raised lump covering a manhole so have to keep a bit right in the left lane to avoid bouncing off it, and truck could have got to close to the centre line like the car driver did. Glad your OK pal.

That one is 100% down to the Jag driver not planning early enough to be in correct lane for the roundabout and not checking his mirror when he made his late manoeuvre.

Raul, you do not have any reason to worry about this accident. It looks to me as though the on coming truck was going a bit fast and was well over to the middle of the road, which could be described as unusual. Don't lose any sleep...
