You guys knew you wanted to move to Florence? My issue is trying to decide where to rent in Abruzzo or the like until I explore Abruzzo villages and decide which one to move to. I am in the process now of beginning my residency. Who did you use to help you through the process. Thanx Gina in Upstate NY USA moving to Italy. Did I not see you two on Marco's channel? Or somewhere else? I remember the house LOL. Hey welcome to the world of being Self Employed. Its the freedom and control is right but dealing with two countries wont be easy. I will be doing the same thing and throw in Portugal too. I will be between Italy/Portugal and Upstate NY. I am hoping it all happens in the next year. Working working to achieve this goal Will be in Italy in November. Thanx so much. After I posted this I made an appointment with Sam...

@@smartmoveitaly is this Sam? I have appointment with you on July 5. thank you. I have traveled everywhere. I know region just not village. Been coming to Italy since 1997. I just spent 2 months down south Calabria and Puglia and know that is not for me. Abruzzo, Umbria or Latzio the 7% tax regions and villages...I have it generally but not the exact town or village. So renting is going to be daunting to be able to explore more in depth and choose before buying. Thanx for the link. I will be there in November thanx again.

Great story. What kind of visa did you get that allows you to have a US-based consulting company? What type of financial solvency did you have to prove in order to qualify for that visa? My wife and I are not yet retirement age, but are ready to "leave the rat race". One thing my wife and I are working through is figuring out how to get a residency visa that will allow us to be self-employed as consultants AND won't require us to already have a large book of clients that we have on long-term contracts from whom we have to document a significant amount of income.

    Gay issues and acceptance?

Italy has the Vatican, so there are a bunch of people who reject the idea of LGBT acceptance, but the laws are pro, not against, and they're very severe on those who offend someone else for his sexual orientation, or religion, or race. So no one will directly go to a gay telling him he should not have the same right of the eteros, they just keep that idea for them. Of course, you can always encounter some racist, anti-gay, or whatever, because stupid people are everywhere, but they're rare, as in the rest of the civilzed world.
