I'm a Brazilian and I have been living in Italy for 3 and a half years. It's not easy. The Italian bureaucracy is infuriating and can drive you insane. It's hard to find work and make friends. Italians take their time to call someone a friend, because normally they know their friends from their "paesino" since they were kids. But now after I persevered, I have a job, doing something that I love, I've met incredible people and I have no intention of leaving Italy ever. I've just fell in love with this country. 🥰

THE BEST DESCRIPTION EVER. I'm italian, I didn't study in my home region and I did an Erasmus. I came back last year and it's so sad, but terribly true. People in "paesini" create their group when they are young, they grew up together, and die together. Nothing else, no possibility to open to the rest of the world (of course, there are exceptions!). Congratulations, sincerely, for you foreigners who did it, because it's difficult for me, even if I know the language and the culture: we need to break this scheme. Martina (Italy)

Where I’m from the lifestyle is very similar to Italian living.

I lived in Italy from 2017 to 2020. At first life in Italy was difficult. I had a hard time adjusting to how things were done compared to Texas where I'm from. The crazy driving, non queuing in line, speed cameras, and many other things. After a while I got adjusted to the culture and how things are done in Italy. I miss it every day and my friends in family get annoyed because every other sentence I say begins with "when I lived in Italy"🤣. Much love 🇮🇹

Hi Kylie, as an Italian, I don't feel annoyed at all by your poetic concept of dolce vita. I think we need more people like you sharing the beauty of Italy while keeping it real at the same time. No! You can't give up you have come too far and your on your way, your so uplifting and philosophical, " poetic concept of the dolce vita" your making people happy especially in the time of COVID! I spent two weeks house hunting in rural Southern Italy, alone, in 2018. I don’t speak the language. I managed to ride trains, rent and drive a car, explore the rural countryside and villages. In retrospect, I don’t know how I even did all of that. I’m now 54. I just absolutely fell in love with Italy and have been obsessed ever since. It was one of the most challenging trips of my life - and I’m very well-traveled. We have to chase our dreams. Life is too short not to.

@@MariVictorius I know how that feels; I’ve been there, too. Sometimes it helps to have a change in perspective. For example, I live in one of the most expensive areas of the country and the pressure is high. However, there are so many other more affordable places to live (I’m here due to work.) in the U.S. and abroad. We often feel trapped where we are. It can be freeing to look beyond your current circumstances and contemplate big changes. If we’re willing to let go of what holds us in a place a world of options opens up. Good luck. Don’t give up on your dreams.

I’m an American, specifically a New Yorker. I believe this city has easily taken 10 years off my life because of how incredibly difficult it is to live here. Now even though I have zero connections to Italy, there is something about that country that calls me, draws me. I look at your video and I want to be there. NYC, with all it’s allure, has over prepared me for just about anything. I too am a pragmatic dreamer and I strangely dream of Italy. I can’t wait to start that part of my life.

I’m still undecided and still not sure how I’d get my paperwork, apartment etc. also the language barrier, I speak some French so I opted for France. @@brandybodhi I’m moving to Vietnam with my older son. I have 3 boys who just graduated from college and now it’s my time to find my way. I started saving in September, I had a $1000 and I wanted to also take advantage of this down time, so I saved the money I would of spent on gas from commuting to work, I stopped my insurance on my car because I stopped driving and I stopped eating out during the pandemic, this was not easy, but I wanted to challenge myself and I’ve saved $15000 so far! I’m so happy we’re on the same journey, it’s not easy, but so well worth it. I started saving late in life because I had to put my boys through college. I wish you the best of luck in Italy. Living in Vietnam will allow me to travel the world because the rents are so cheap and you get so much for your money. Keep in touch! I’m from California born and raised, I’m Veteran/Navy!

Hello from California I just discovered you Kylie and I must say I think you're a breath of fresh air! I'm so proud of you that you're living your best life and you're where you want to be. I've never felt at home in the US I always felt that I belong somewhere else in the world. It was my goal to move out of the u.s. by the time I was 45 years old. My two sons were grown and gone I felt free as a bird. Then they started having children and required my assistance to help. Which I gladly did I love these little munchkins. So then I said when I'm 55 I'll try and move away from here. Then my mother fell ill and I love her deeply so I started assisting her because no other family member would step up. I'm now 63 years old my mother is 91 years old suffering with Alzheimer's. I often think about writing a book I think I would title it an unfulfilled life. I followed you and a few other people all over the world I'm living vicariously through you and them. thank you for your positive outlook and your beautiful spirit! 💙

Dearest Karin. Thank you for sharing a little of your story with me. Think twice about that book title - it sounds like you have achieved many things which I dream of - having children, living long enough to see them have children and being around to care for a beloved parent in their old age - although I’m so sorry for how tough Alzheimer’s must be. The interesting thing about Italy is that it seems to provide beauty for all ages so there never is an expiry date for enjoying its magnificence. You never know - you might get here yet. I never felt at home in Australia so I do understand your yearning. Sending you much love. 🌸

Karin Kissinger in 2018, having never even been to Europe, I moved to Italy at age 67. My message: you are never too old, so long as your finances and health allow. I’m a native Californian; lived in the SF Bay Area my entire life. I live here very comfortably, albeit without a car, which I don’t need, living in Florence. I have zero regrets.

As an Italian, I don't think it's annoying to hear you speaking about the beauty of our country or the Dolce Vita style.. I really appreciate that there's still someone enjoying all the wonders that Italy has to offer.. Probably we're just too stressed out by daily life, bureaucracy, and so on, to appreciate what we were given as Italians.. my self included sometimes ❤️😋

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder If you are Italian and lived in Italy everything seems like the norm since it’s normal for you I lived and born in Canada for like all my life until 17-18ish my mom is Chinese so a lot of Asian culture my dad was Australian and he had to go overseas for business Until I enrolled in Switzerland eth Zurich , I still am studying 3rd year right now. I went around Europe basically when I can sometimes alone sometimes with friends I went to Italy and many other places everything looked like a fairy tale to me

Hi Kylie! As an Italian, I love your videos. The concept of "la dolce vita" is not fake. It exists. Sometimes it's just hidden behind what we call "reality" as Italians. When you live something (or somewhere) everyday, you get used to it eventually. And that's a pity! Good english. How the hell are you doing it? I've been to italy a couple of times. I dont pick up languages easily. I would feel like an total outsider. Other than a good place in Northern California so not too desperate to go to Italy

I lived in northern Italy (Friuli Venezia Giulia) from 2000 - 2004 and it was one of the best times of my life. I could drive an hour in the wintertime and go snow skiing, or 45 minutes to the beach (Bibione, Lignano). Despite leaving there 16 years ago, I still have frequent conversations with the friends I made there. Lovely people, delicious food, beautiful art, incredible culture... I've been all over Italy, and can't think of a single place I didn't enjoy.

I have only known of Kylie's existence for about five minutes, yet she is one of the sweetest people I know of.

Americano here St Augustine Florida USA, Lived in Gaeta Italy for almost 6 years 1980 - 1986, best years of my life, I will be back soon for good. Lived all over the world as well, my heart has always lived in Italy.

Thank you Kylie. It's hard to get practical advice about living in Italy that is also optimistic. I think Italy is fabulous including the challenges, it's a cultural superpower and so many Italians are beautifully educated and passionate about the land and its history. I would just wish for the Italian people, better leaders who respect and care for them properly. Keep up the good work!

Sometimes a foreigner can remind natives of the beauty of their country. They have lived in the country probably their whole life, and you see it in it's freshness with brand new eyes, and remind them of the unique beauty of their country that they live in.

Spending two years of my life living in Italy still counts for one of the best things I’ve experienced 🙂

Credo che tu abbia received several negative comments but i hardly understand why; when someone parla bene about your country you should be proud of questo. I started watching your video when you where in Positano se ricordo bene. You were waiting for the bus and una macchina stopped and the guy said "I'll give you a passaggio the bus is always late". You said: people here in italy are so gentili. I thought: buses are often late. 😁 This is the difference and i like listening to someone who makes me appreciate something that i take for granted. To those who wish to move to Italy: if your first destination turns out to be too expensive, don't give up, just look into other options. For example, the Piemonte region is very underestimated but it's just as pretty as the rest of Italy and probably more convenient for many reasons. But above all, it's much cheaper than Tuscany, Rome, Milan.

Hi Kylie. As italian I want to apologise for all the scammers out there, haters or just people who might be unfortunate here in Italy and say bad things to you, That's unfair. Everyone has a different experience and letting people down just because of their enthusiasm about something it is just sad and evil. I actually feel good listening to your point of view about my country, because it's helping me understand that the struggle we might live somewhere might be the same elsewhere. Makes me feel part of a bigger crowd of brave people who want to follow their dreams exploring life abroad. Thank you, actually, for the strength you gave me through this video. Kylie, let me say this, I'm South African, I have traveled to Italy eight times, when I watch your videos of Italy, one thing becomes abundantly clear, "You Get Italy"!! Like my wife and I do, it's the only place I want to be, and I'll keep going back until the end. We love every nuance of the place. People who rattle on about this country or that country, simply do not understand. Italy is an immersive experience unlike any other. I'm not a bucket list person, to me the idea is trite. I don't want to go to a hundred places, just to say I've been there, knowing that 98 of them were crap. Italy never disappoints, in fact it delivers in spades! The fact of the matter is, if you don't get Italy, you don't get me! People who don't like Italy are like people who don't like animals!

I lived 15 years in South Africa, just loved it, best period of my life. Due to the circumstances we all know, I returned to Europe. I’ve been to the US on a number of occasions, I did genuinely enjoy every bit of it. BUT, when I retire, it will be in Italy, going there again on holidays in 3 weeks time.

Hi! I’m an American, while my grandmother is from a very Italian family. Despite that, her grandparents had immigrated to the United States and never taught their children or family anything Italian, no language or stories from their time, and she’s resented it. I think the whole place is a cultural archeology museum . It's great she has the opportunity and budget to explore it .

I live in Italy and have done so for many years. It is an easier country than most to somehow survive in, but extremely difficult to become successful in. Even for many Italians, success stays out of reach unless you have the right connections. If you do, it's all open doors. Another hard part is that the society values taking things easy and being crafty is seen as a plus whereas a more responsible attitude is often seen as something to exploit. Italians seem to be very friendly but real friendship is nearly impossible to find. There seems to be a lack of commitment outside of the family. Also, there is a general lack of community spirit so it's very much each unto himself. It's a wonderful magical place but can wear you down over the years.

Kylie I must say I truly enjoyed looking at this, I'm in the USA and surly looking towards getting a property in Italy, I know they'll be hardships etc but the worst is to have the dream and not follow through, nothing but the best and so much success and happiness daily.

Loved the video Kylie, including your comments, your cinematography, your truthful advice, and most of all your friendly beautiful face and voice with your accent . . . both in Australian and Italian!! You are truly incredible and one of a kind!!!

I especially enjoyed your compassionate articulate regard for the grumpy ogres and trolls, exemplifying how thoughtful politeness really is a virtue, that anyone should aspire towards. All of your videos are full of substance - variety in your content only makes it more valuable, as everything you do seems authentic - inspiring others as an example. All great accomplishments require a great level of detailed thought and endless hours of committed hard work and sacrifice - I’m glad you made that clear, yet again. @@wolfthequarrelsome504 The immediate thought might be due to her immaculate use of language, tone and timbre of voice - they seem to resonate the values she portrays in much of her work - here (further) exemplified by her reasoned display of polite compassion towards ogres and trolls. So, I'd even include her attitude to that aesthetic experience. Aesthetics is always a value judgement, usually subjective (sometimes universal).

My family and I are moving to Milan in August for work as teachers at an international school. I’ve enjoyed your videos and I feel your pain about Italian bureaucracy! I had to fly to Quito during the pandemic just to sign a document. Upon return to my home, I found out the consulate gave me the wrong document (after I had presented them with the correct one and they said it was not official and they wouldn’t legalize it). Their solution, just fly back and we’ll sign the original one that I had brought the first time!!! I was amazed that after much back and forth though email, they agreed to let me mail them the document for legalization!!! Keeping my fingers crossed that they don’t throw up a major roadblock like you mention in this video. Thanks again for your insights.

You and your films are so refreshing on KZread, Kylie. A breath of beautiful fresh air! I am an American but I left my life in NYC and moved to the countryside in France and have been planning to make a similar video for those wanting to move to France. Leaving the USA and moving to Europe was the best decision I ever made. It was difficult and challenging - and still is with all the visa paperwork - but SO worth it all! Totally agree with you. :)

Brave soul you are! French government agencies are not for the mortal but for patient saints, according to a friend of mine who moved to South of France after marrying a French dude.

Kylie, I am so happy that I discovered you today! And I know what you mean about the trolls as they’re all over the Italian groups on Facebook. But what you offer is so much more than anyone has offered us before and we have been doing a lot of homework on moving to Italy. Thanks for the little editing Kylie note. I'm in a less then ideal situation I never thought I would be in and to have the pain and frustration of that acknowledged but still gently encouraged to persevere literally made me cry.

Hello Kylie, I, myself have lived in several countries, including Italy and I now live in the US. Many Italians don't realize how lucky they are living in such a beautiful country. People like to be frustrated and feel they have no power. They have one of the best health systems in the world. Living in America, life is hard! The social system is bad, and the health system really bad. Unless you are rich, this country is tough. Don't change! Your videos are inspirational. Stay true to yourself, and yes, we need many more pragmatic dreamers, and people who are not afraid to follow their dreams. Yes Italy is sooooo backwards in many ways, but it also is exceptional in many ways.

@@leisureclub_ I fully agree with you. I don't know whether you are italian but I'd like to share this story with the people who read. The first people we, in Italy, detected with covid were two Chinese tourists. We know for sure they didn't spread the virus just to be clear. We took care of them in Rome without asking who will pay the bill. We saved both their lives. We took care of them for 50 days. They went back to China, they said a huge thanks to our health-care system, to our doctors and to all the other people who helped them. The day before yesterday I read they donated 40.000 euro, more than 40.000$ to the hospital. We didn't expect this. I know that there are a lot of problems here in italy, more than in some other country, less than in some other. I live in Lombardia where the virus hit the most and our local leaders took really bad decisions, I don't have words to describe their poor leadership but everyone should think that next time he could be one of the two Chinese tourists (everyone hope not) and I guess you feel safer in italy than in USA. Proud of italy.

@@marcodicesare6716 Yes, you should be very proud of your country, your region and your health care workers. I think everyone has seen the footage of the doctors and nurses in the Lombardy region. I was so moved to see how hard they were working and how much they cared for their patients. Such dedication and kindness!

Just found your channel. I’m a Canadian who moved to France so I can relate to so much of what you say, especially the administrative and bureaucratic nightmares. Wonderful videos and advice.

Thank you Kylie for your insights on this. I live in Latin America and life here is so hard that everywhere else seems like a dream. I pray for the day where I can finally live in Italy, even it is for a short period of time, it literally fills my eyes with tears , just thinking about it. I do need a plan to get there and saving is on it's way. My hope is to find a job over there even before going to Italy but I know it's quite hard, so I am looking for more realistic options.

I appreciate you going outside of your creative zone on this series! It really helps me dream! I'm going for my masters in communications to get my career options broadened. It will allow my family to have locational freedom and these types of videos of positivity, dreams, goals, and encouragement are so helpful! I know Italy is on our to do list at some point. Not sure about living there, but I will say visiting there needs to happen for us. My family on my mom's side is from northern Italy. The perfect antidote to a wet afternoon! Even a practical video like this is a thing of beauty in the way you construct it and sharing your experiences is always helpful. Ignore the haters; they are clearly unhappy people. Being the lucky recipient of an Irish passport (via my late father), I am planning to spend some time in France and Italy in the next few years, with a friend who also has an Irish passport, so this is all very useful. I know I am very lucky to be able to have freedom of movement that my friends and family in the UK will be losing and your videos are definitely keeping me motivated to fulfil my dream! Look forward to Sunday's episode and hope your allergies are not causing you too much discomfort.

That's nice. But I've been dreaming on living in one of those little Irish cottages with a greenery view from my window.

Loved the detailed descriptions of living the life in Italy you’re soft spoken beautiful person I really appreciate it so much love☺️✌🏻

It's always interesting to listen to people tell others what they ought to think, like, dream or do. Anyone who doesn't like Italy should live where they want to live and focus on themselves and their own lives. You do a wonderful job talking about what you love, Kylie, and your message is for those who feel as you do. As for those who disagree, I wonder why they don't just stop watching your series and go find something else to do. Kudos for working to achieve your personal dreams. And for helping others do the same.

I am very impressed that you stuck it out and followed your dream, I moved to Italy just over 8 years ago because the UK was 'Going to the dogs' and its much worse now, I was however in a position to buy a property and don't need to work, if your not in my position then take note of the advice Kylie gives you, my only advice is, even if your only vaguely thinking of coming to Italy start your Italian lessons immediately as it will make things easier when you arrive.
