I am extremely uncomfortable with this video... illegal wildlife smuggling is a serious issue especially in countries like Australia where biosecurity is critical and protected native species are stolen. There are over 130 Australian reptile species that are listed in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (Cites).

Assuming it was non venomous (not a snake expert, wouldn't know how likely/unlikely this would be in Florida) the biggest problem would actually be the risk of him getting injured by the hedge lol. Non venomous snakes do bite sometimes but it's not a particularly big deal Having said that, if it's even remotely possible for it to be venomous (basically if there's venomous snakes in Florida, you really wouldn't want to risk mistaking a particularly weird looking venomous snake for a non venomous one so you would have to assume it is venomous) you would still very much want to avoid any contact with it and seek emergency medical care if it did bite you.

In all seriousness, DO NOT attempt to capture wildlife as a pet. In the vast majority of cases, it won't be happy in captivity, and you most likely will have a hard time giving it proper care. And since in most cases, it's illegal, you can't really take it to the vet if it needs medical attention. If you think you've found an injured animal, call a local animal rescue or other specialist

here in Florida theres a ton of invasive species and people usually go around hunting them. Tegus, chameleons, ball pythons you name it. If you are willing to make a sanctuary while also "Eliminating" them from the area, do it, since the other option is to kill on sight.

I am very happy that you didn't end up getting to take a real snake on a plane. It could be invasive, or able to breed with a local snake or something and cause major environmental problems.

Also had it been confiscated it probably would have been killed and Alan would have potentially been in a bunch of trouble. I suspect he never intended to take the snake
