hi doc! I would appreciate if I could have your opinion about some concerns i have. It’s been 6 weeks since i had an upper blepharoplasty and a transconjunctival blepharoplasty and although the eyelids have small amount of edema, my cheekbones and jawline are still swollen from then, i feel and look almost like a balloon, as if the swelling came down. From your experience, is this normal?

Hi Andreea Stanescu, I hope you understand that a proper second opinion involves a physical examination of your condition. Your cheeks and jawline should not be affected by eyelid surgery, so I suggest you follow up with your surgeon for an examination for any possible issues. I hope this helps you.

Hi @NanManee-lm5zr, I generally don't recommend at home thermal devices be used without proper training. You should also consult with your surgeon as it could affect their work, and your results. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Hi Val .R, Hyaluronic acid fillers not lasting for an extended period is actually a good thing because it means they are biocompatible with the body, and can be metabolized. There are semi permanent, and permanent fillers out there, but I don't recommend or administer them because they are highly prone to complications like foreign body reactions, infection, and breaking apart within deeper tissue of body, which require surgical removal, but not all the material may be removed. Hi @dailodai9586, The most common complications in eye bag removal surgery are associated with unnecessarily removing skin to treat wrinkles, and compromising lower eyelid support anatomy because of the incision going through the skin, muscle, and maybe affecting the tendons and ligaments. These are avoided with an internal incision that bypasses these anatomical structures so they are preserved, as explained in the video. Safety of lower eyelid surgery, or any other surgery, is mostly dependent on the experience, knowledge, and skill of the surgeon performing the procedure. Hi Dr. Prasad, I had a scarless lower blepharoplasty and still have eye bags. It does look less than before but I’m concerned it won’t get better. Could it possibly still be swollen after 4 weeks? My surgeon said it’s swelling but I’m feeling hopeless. Is it too soon to tell? Or should I consider a second opinion?

Hi @eriksolorzano17, You may still have temporary swelling at this time as disorganized collagen fibers start to flatten around the 4 week mark after surgery. Revision surgery is usually not recommended until at least 6 months after primary surgery as temporary swelling can obscure results, as well as make revision surgery inaccurate if performed too soon. I suggest giving it more time to resolve before considering a revision procedure. Hi @susanstewart5194, I suggest you ask for transconjunctival blepharoplasty by name, which involves no external incision in the lower eyelid for visible scarring and potential damage to lower eyelid support structures; and insist on no lower eyelid skin removal to treat wrinkles, as this can cause skin shortage that will pull down the lower eyelids. Under eye wrinkles can be treated non-surgically to improve skin quality. I strongly advise that you do not let a surgeon talk you into any eyelid skin removal, or that eyelid skin an incision is absolutely necessary, because these two approaches that are most often done together are the most causes of lower eyelid surgery complications. Hi Rohit, There are articles published regularly about a future cure for baldness to help gain funding for research, but there still isn't a cure. The fact is that genetic pattern hair loss is hardwired into the DNA, so it can't be cured just like other incurable genetic conditions, but it can be managed to thicken thinning hair, and maximize hair growth as much possible, for as long as possible.
