How Leonardo DiCaprio Forced Hollywood To Take Him Seriously

Ойын-сауық

Leonardo DiCaprio is by far one of the biggest movie stars on the planet. Though after his initial foray into the Hollywood machine, it seemed the young Leonardo DiCaprio was forever going to be typecast as the teenage heart throb. That is until he made his turn in Scorsese's Gangs of New York. Gangs of New York showed the world that Leonardo DiCaprio was capable of so much more. Leading to roles in The Departed, Django Unchained, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Revenant, and countless other classics.

    He really avoided being typecast in the boyish charm leading role, and really showed how he was one of the greatest actors to ever live. He's so good in Gangs of New York, but his performance in The Departed is my all-time favorite that really sees him operating on another level.

    It was a really good career move to become Scorsese’s new signature actor after Marty’s partnership with De Niro started winding down. Gave Leo the prestige and acting range that he was looking for while giving Marty the commercial success he never really enjoyed before and the ability to make whatever art he wants well into his 70s and 80s. Leo and Marty’s careers turn out very differently if they didn’t hook up when they did.

    One thing that helps Leo is he doesn't try to appear approachable like every movie star does nowadays, singing karaoke on Jimmy Fallon or taking cheap, against-type comedy roles like so many other "serious" actors do. He's never cold and aloof in public, he just doesn't constantly do press or put on some fake, overly friendly act. That helps sell him as a honest-to-God moviestar to the general public. That and trading in 20-year-old supermodels on a yearly basis.

Like when an actor gets stuck forever after being a superhero, I wonder if Leo had to fight to proof himself to not be stuck in the Jack circle forever. I love how he’s very selective, and he refuses to do blockbuster movies. Leo does not care about the paycheck. He cares about the source material and the direction of the actual story as the content he will provide to the audience for a full experience. I love that he cares about storytelling more than profit. 😇

    You really ought to look at this narrative a little more critically. Here's the question you should be asking: why don't people take you seriously if you're popular with teen girls? What are you on about? Are you aware that with this virtue signalling, you actually make women more identify with the victim role? Which leads to entitlement, passiveness, lack of responsibility and trust in their own ability to shape their lifes? Blocks their perception to understand that life challenges you and you have to compete to win because instead, they just find some cozy way into feeling overpowered? Any actor who builds a strong reputation as a certain type (action star, villain, funny guy, teeny charmer) will be perceived as that character. So they will not be cast for any other roles anymore. As a teeny charm, DiCaprio would have had 10 more years to repeat the same movies and then his carreer would have been over. Do not look for misogynie; look for and talk about female greatness. It is out there and it will inspire women to be themselves and use their strenghts.

Brad starred in acclaimed period movies, Leo was an Oscar nominee by 19, Johnny worked with auteurs like Burton & Waters, and Cruise primarily did dramas until this century. I used to hate him as a teenager. I first discovered him in Romeo and Juliet then The Man In the Iron Mask and wasn't impressed. I was like ok he's handsome. So what? Then he did Titanic and the girl started swearing by his name, so I hated him even more. I didn't even watch the Titanic. Then, I saw The Beach and I was impressed by his acting. I was like wow he's a good actor. Then, he kept doing great movies like Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Blood Diamond, and I became a fan 😅.

    You should respect him. He is a great actor, has raised hundreads of millions for charity, donated tens of millions of his own money and nobosy who has ever worked with him has had anything but great things to say about him. Of course the snide comment about his so respectful image is because he dates supermodels in their 20s. Women who also have had nothing but good things to say about him.

    Leo is a phenomenal actor, he brings his A game to every character he portrays and makes them quite memorable. Now.... Given what we know now about "The Hollywood Machine" and how long he's been in it, and how handsome he was as a child, teen and Young adult. I wonder how many sexual harassment issues he's had to navigate.

  • @rw3745

    @rw3745

    5 ай бұрын

    That's what disturbs me. He was in growing pains which was directed by the disgraced paedophile Brian Peck where he's holding on to Leo in a very disturbing way. The sexual harassment in shows was unchecked and much worse then than it is now. With his looks and youth, going into the industry was like sending a lamb to a pack of wolves. It doesn't help that he was raised by his single mother in the addict, prostitution, crime-ridden corner of Hollywood. He seems like he's hiding a lot of pain and can't open up about it because he feels like he cant complain after the success he's gotten (through his own hard work) and seem ungrateful. He must have kept it together for so long, that can really be hard to deal with on your own.
