How I Upgraded My iPhone Memory 800% - in Shenzhen, China

Ғылым және технология

This is my journey in Shenzhen, China to learn how to upgrade the memory in my iPhone 6s from 16GB to 128GB. I've been hearing for several years that this was something the repair shops here in Huaqiangbei could do, and I'd even seen one do it to a friends phone, so naturally, I had to learn how to do it myself. It was harder than I thought.

    Hey scotty! When the real iPhone didn’t boot it’s because the kernel data backup only backs up the core info of the chip (this does not include iOS ). So when it didn’t boot and was in recovery mode that was because it didn’t have an operating system installed. This is normal as I do these upgrades on a daily basis (I own a repair shop in Vancouver Canada called ring ring repair). Love your vids. Keep up the good work man!

  • @rearmisser

    @rearmisser

    Yeah the RAM would be impossible because the amount is limited by the software. Unless you modify it which is also basically impossible to do on newer iPhones.

    Can older iPhones be modded? I'm currently using a 5S which I love because of the case. it's a cheap imitation survivor case but it's amazing. I'm going to bite the bullet and maybe get a 12 Mini but when I do I was thinking of learning hardware nodding and stripping the 5S down and installing things like a bigger storage and better camera. Do you reckon it's possible at all? Like obviously i know nothing but if I did know something do you reckon it would be possible?

  • @rearmisser

    @rearmisser

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@sammylpt9076 The storage could be upgraded but it's a finicky process as you saw in the video. A camera upgrade would be limited by the software and the processor. There could be image quality improvement but there are many other factors that limit that, mostly the hardware. Plus I doubt better cameras are made for the 5s anyway. Modding the software could be done but like I said it's mostly the hardware that limits it which definitely cannot be upgraded. Also at your level of knowledge which as you mentioned is next to nothing it's very likely you would break your beloved 5s if you tried modding anything. You've been rocking that 5s for a long time, in my opinion I think it's time to move on and get a new phone. From the 5s you will see a world of improvement if you get an iPhone 12, like loading times, response time, download speeds, image quality, and much more. You don't even have to get the latest iPhone 12, you could get a 11 or 10 or even a modern Android. Trust me, you won't regret it. :)

    Mario you can fit like five 1080p BluRay movies (or two 4K BluRay movies) in 256gb, allowing for space for the firmware. Do you want just five movies on your phone? Space is not often enough which is why most phones include an sd card slot.

    If you complain that you can only fit 2-5 movies on 256gb, it's more you than the amount of storage you got lol. First of all, the average encoded 1080p blu ray rip is nowhere close to 40-45gb a movie, and second of all, maybe you should adjust your files to the device your using it with lol. Like it's of any use to put a 4k rip on a phone that can basically show no difference between 720p and 1080p

  • @James.Stark.Ben.Edition

    youfreaker you never download rips. Amateurs do that. You download source material. I have a Deadpool 1080p bluray thats 95gb so I don't know where the heck you got 45-50gb from. I have ender's game that's 112gb 4K bluray. So... Also, you can see the difference between 720p and 1080p. Just because you can't doesn't meam no one can. You can see the sharpness difference. The only resolutions you can see next to no difference is 720p and 768p.

    From the evidence gathered in the video, there were 2 primary issues that increased the difficulty his experience, one of which he recognized and fixed it. The first was that he used a setting for the hot air blower that was on the wrong setting, particularly vertical air. This was suggested by how much the motherboard was moving. When the helical air setting is used, the intensity of the air produced is much less so and is much more conducive to removal of large items on the PCB such as the nand flash.
