I learned handstand for the first time at age 60! We are never too old. I can still only kick up against a wall, but I can stay up for nearly a minute now and my confidence is growing. Soon I will be able to start trying in the middle of the room. I will get there.

If you are afraid of falling and need to work on balance, you can do handstands in the water! I do this in pools or at the beach or the lake, and you can progress by trying it in more shallow spots. I think around hip height is a good place to start! (it's also easier on the wrists, as you don't have to carry your whole bodyweight)

yep! i’m a swimmer and whenever we swim open water there’s a more shallow spot and we always practice a little there, one of my friends has progressed out of the water, but the rest of us are still in shallow water. i must advice you to not go too deep, because then you have to consciously swim down and it becomes hard to keep your hands on the ground

Hi Lucy, I just discovered your channel and I can really identify myself with you. I was a rather unsportive child/teenager and started exercising with 17/18 years. Since then I've been mostly self-taught and sports have become a major part of my life, with acrobatics and bouldering as my favourite hobbies. I also mainly do body weight training. It's very inspiring to see someone like you become so successful on your personal journey. It is easy to see your passion and you seem authentic, which is not often the case in the fitness/nutrition world on social media platforms. Also your tips and explanations are very helpful, thank you! I'm currently training to balance my handstand for up to ten seconds. Oh my gosh and super impressive how you demonstrated the anterior pelvic tilt!!

Few days ago I went through the experience of my first falling after a handstand and I must say it is such a relieving experience. I can relate to the last words you've said about dealing with fear of falling by preparing the body in order to feel safety. This is what I've been doing so far. But it was such a great experience of falling and enjoying that fall and then laughing at it. I tried to bring awareness to the body, literally think only about the body (sort of a body scan) and set an intention to what is going to happen (prepare mentally to the fall). Well first it was a cartwheel (also first time ) and then handstands and rolls etc. Thank you for sharing!)

Don’t know why this came on my feed but just here to say i am proud of you❣️ 43 and not a fully able body so don’t know if i can pull this off lol. When i was young i did those things and was a dancer, we called it the candle:) but now 😅. I am always trying to gain weight (far and muscles), Crohn’s and a lot of surgeries makes holding on to food and processing/absorbing it the right way very difficult. Working out regulary is chellanging as well so i do what i can. Body pump at home, ballet exercises, dance workouts, resistance bands etc. Better something then nothing! And walking my high energy Staffie dog:)

I was in the same situation with you like I lost 15 kg and then get some back on, lose some, gain some,...etc. But I realized that just being on a diet and jumping in the house just thinking like losing some calories is not gonna be permanent in my life, and I sicked of this loop. So, started a search for making workouts as a hobby for me. Since I was a former gymnast when I was a kid, I thought that handstands, splits, yoga, a little bit of pilates would be so much fun and helpful for my future, happiness, and for my body. When I found your videos I thought that "I found a soul who had a similar story to mine, who worked for herself, found happiness, and was able to share it with others." and I really appreciate you for that. I hope I can achieve that too. Thank you for this video. 😊

Thanks for the video will work on building my wrists back up one thing I found that worked good was doing knuckle push ups, using just your one knuckle, did start out with two but went to one and found wrists got much stronger quicker using just one knuckle on each hand.

Good job for the weight loss. Truly not easy and it needs courage and perseverance. I loss 70lbs in 6 months so I know what you went through. To lose weight that much I had to run 5-7km + climbing stairs (1020 feet stairs "koko crater") every day during that 6 months. And eating better of course.

I know there’s the doing it for the love of it but I need some kinda goal/structure/to know what I’ve done & what I need to rest the next day - eg is 15 mins of solid handstand training like an upper body workout session for the day?

Did you ever experience severe headaches? I've been practising handstands for a while, and thought my brain was getting used to the pressure. But 1 month ago after doing 3-4 times 20 sec against the wall handstands, I got such severe headaches the 2 days after. I've stopped my practice since then... :(

This used to happen to me when I did acro, you just have to make sure you are hydrated and drink your water before hand to prevent the headaches

Someone who talk about the fear of falling, which it's my fear. How long did it take you to do a full headstand and how much did you practice in a week (or day)?

I live with many health issues; Fibromyalgia and Bone condition’s being my worst painful condition’s. Even lifting just 2lb weight put’s my wrist’s into severe pain. “I once was a Powerlifter,” until I fell under disabilities that course many back, shoulder and neck issues.

Tripping over thin air I FELT that. I have a plan for my own journey I was doing handstands in 2020 and I stopped BIGGEST REGRET… I have some push up bars and I have a mental plan I am going to try to get into handstand on it… My original handstand journey i stared kicking up and using the wall as my safe guide… I am soon to be 33 and I am starting over

May i ask, what do you do for a living? You have such a nice flat, amazing hobby, and you look great, so there must be something that provides with all the free time for such activities. You're very cool, but I'm just curious about that

Hi Lucy, My ultimate aim is to do a handstand but I thought it might be easier to start off learning a forearm stand first. I’ve been able to hold my legs in the air for about a minute and sometimes I can kick up my legs without touching the wall in front but when I do in the middle of the room, I’ll roll over too much and fall in a heap. Would there be less chance of falling over in a handstand compared to a forearm stand?

I attempted a handstand in the backyard. Last time I did a handstand was over 30y ago & nearly 30kg lighter. Nearly gave myself a hernia. Could definitely feel a pulling in ab muscles from the force of trying to get upside down. Never has anything like that in younger lighter days when did handstands all the time
