Awesome Idea!! Thank You! Of course it is goo to check the squareness of the box first as they make these boxes fast and cover up that they are not always square. I've even seen one with one corner thinner than the other 3 corners. That thru me off and made me think the neck was slanted to the top. LOLolol! but this Idea will still work with the neck in place.

I'm no my first build and I have the "center" marked, but I was concerned it would not line up properly. This is a great method. I also loved your intonation setup video. It's why I ended up getting a hardtail bridge.

I've done a few now. Just getting into the hardtail. Good advice. I'm gonna finish these 2 and then stop. It's not hard but I think I like the shovel guitar better.

Looks like a good method to me. Do you add “wings” to the sides of the neck-through to make sure you have enough material (wood) to accept the mounting screws?

On the inside, was the neck wide enough for the screws or did you have to add support on both sides of the neck?

Think there is a video on setting up and intonation, I most often have very little adjustment to do, mostly setting the action or string height 👍

Ahhh, I was wondering if you had a wider block of wood on the neckthrough bit to screw the bridge down to, but since you have strings through the body to the back the strings aren't pulling from the tail so you can just screw the bridge to the lid (and not worry about the bridge being pulled off), right?

on a fretted neck, do you have the fretboard higher up off of the cigar box? if so how much? or do you do it the same exact way as fretless?

Taking your idea one step farther, couldn't you have separate jigs premeasured for the different scale lengths. Tape it in place with one end jammed against the nut and use the other end to set the hard tail as you demonstrate?

Thank you for posting this Rob. I used your information and a stick measured for the scale length as Henry Williams suggested above. It worked great! Doing it the way you demonstrate makes things go so much easier!

I'm defiantly going to try this method. Just out of curiosity... You used the word "beings" in your video. Now, I have only heard this word used in Iowa ( or there abouts ) Am I close? 😀
