Adjustable height bridges for cigar box guitar

Музыка

We use simple floating bridges on a lot of our guitars, and in the past we've made a few adjustable height types, but never been entirely happy with them, as they wear rather clumsy and bulky. Here's our latest idea inspired by the simple and basic adjustable height floating bride used on Harmony Stella guitars.
It's all pretty simple, although a little fiddly to make, but they do work nicely. This first batch is 15mm high and will raise to well over 20mm , so I think we will make another batch of around 12mm, which will raise to around 18mm. Made by hand, no CNC, no plastic.

Looks like very consistent work considering them being shaped by hand! Nice work CJ

It's just a matter of measuring accurately..and some experience.

Excellent idea! I have 3D printed versions of my bridges from 17 - 22 mm in 1 mm increments on hand (I can do higher and lower) with the height embossed on the back side. This is a much more practical approach and would allow dynamic adjustment if there is any movement in the wood. I’m now working on a 3D printed intonated version for my chuggers. Thanks for the inspiration!

Anything coming in the future with a bone nut and a bone rest for the bridge?

John! You have thee best cbg info in utube bar none.. John the distance between the tail piece and the bridge should be? I’m running 25 1/2” scale and the bridge measures out way far from the tail piece, around 4/5” inches? What to do? Thanks

There's no "best" distance, but you need to try and get a good "break angle" over the bridge. If the strings pass over the bridge at a very shallow angle on their way to the tailpiece, this will reduce the pressure on the bridge and the strings may slip about side to side, unless you cut some notches in the saddle.
