good luck with your language prospects! I'm just trying to learn german to a high level... I'd like to start learning another language (like spanish, swedish, bulgarian, russian, polish, italian...) all of them I'm interested in but I also don't even remember how to start learning languages. I don't even remember starting german tbh... I've forgotten how to start over from the beginning and honestly it's taken so much time and effort that I don't think I'd be able to do that all over again haha. But if I add another language, I'll add one of the above.

I really agree that taking a language exam for yourself is a completely different feeling than taking an exam for a school or for a job. Especially the sense of accomplishment when you pass the target score, it is a complete affirmation of yourself. Even though it feels a bit down when you don't pass the exam, you'll grateful for what you did and you have nothing to lose.

I personally started learning my third foreign language way too early in regard to the level I had in the first two ones (English and Spanish). I would say I became able to efficiently dedicate time to a third language once I was comfortable using English in Spanish in my daily activities (eg watch media, make friends, take psychology lessons).

In Dutch high school, it is not unusual to learn five or six languages at a time. My son is currently learning Chinese, Latin, French, and English. Until last year he also had Ancient Greek and German. And his native languages are Persian and Dutch. That makes eight languages. I myself also had six languages in high school, and then later learned some Persian and Chinese, and I am now learning Spanish, but organically, without fixing myself any goals or doing tests or grammar & lists of vocabulary.

So excited to hear you on Easy German! Honestly my main goal is to just feel fully comfortable listening to native level German content. To get close to what it feels like when listening to English. Would also love to get a certificate but b1 or b2. I’m pretty sure I am at a solid b2 level but I am also not the best test taker and have never taken any exam like this - even though I feel b1 would be safer, b2 as you said is the one that would really be of use. I can always come back for that later though. Oh getting my Spanish to a basic conversational level would be nice especially living in South Florida where 70% of the population is Hispanic - but every time I put too much energy into Spanish my German suffers for it so we’ll see what I’m able to do. Auf jeden Fall kommt Deutsch zuerst! Finally if I’m not completely overwhelmed by the end of the year I’d like to revisit ASL and Vietnamese both of which I never got to explore as deeply as I would have liked - and maybe even dabble in French a little- perhaps a duo speed run? Lol Great video as always. Wishing you the best in ‘23. L’chaim

hi! for chinese mandarin, I know going for the HSK route can be a little boring, but I've been doing that together with movies and tv series and it since the hsk does kinda follow a logic in the words presented, you get to see a lot of the words from HSK 2 and on (specially from HSK3) you start recognizing sooo many words, that it feel really gratifying idk), also cause a lot of the movies and series have already subs in chinese (so like, double subs) so you can practice the reading too ))) but to make the HSK route more fun from the begining I recommend the Hello Chinese app, you can see the words in context, it looks like duolingo but it's way better cause it was made specically for chinese it's my first year out of college and into work so I got a lot less time, but my lang goals for this year are to finally be done with my (active) German studies and do the C1 exam at the end of the year (got the B2 in 2021) and for Chinese mandarin is to reach half of the HSK 4 and be able to have longer conversations

Good Luck!! My goals are getting to a basic conversational level at French, learning basic grammar and vocab/kanji in Japanese, and improve my Dutch. I am already kinda fluent in Dutch, I actually moved to the Netherlands for my bachelors last year, so I use it with my dutch friends now, but even though I´ve got pretty confident speaking it, I got kinda lazy on vocab and didn´t really study actively anymore. So a lot more reading, Netflix, podcasts and looking up words.

Since I'm planning to go to Japan in July, I actually decided to take a pause with French so I can focus on growing my speaking confidence in Japanese after a long time of just focusing on other aspects of the language. Japanese has always been my mainstay language so it's gonna be fun to focus on one thing only for once. I decided since I have an internship that lasts a semester (the first 4 months), I felt it was best to treat my year as thirds versus quarters. I just felt off planning in quarters since that first 4 months is such a big chunk of my life! 2023 is off to a great start and I can't wait to see how it turns out for everyone and their languages!

I'm mainly focusing on French right now, although I also have resources for Spanish and German. On the other hand, I've recently gained a little fascination with the eastern Mediterranean region, which makes me excited to see you studying Arabic, Turkish, and Hebrew. If there's any language native to that area I'd probably study, it would likely end up being Greek. There's a little bit of a Greek diaspora community where I live, although the Aegean islands are downright beautiful and I'd love to vacation there someday, including some places off the beaten path (eg. places other than Mykonos, Santorini, or other heavily tourist-focused islands), and this is where knowing the language will come in handy. As someone interested in human longevity and life extension, Icaria immediately comes to mind. Of course, some parts of the Aegean region are Turkish, and knowing that language would also come in handy!

Hi, new subscriber here. This is the first video of yours I’m watching and I’m so happy to have someone to look at for advice to learn languages. I’m thinking I might go and take some classes in college for foreign language this year or next. I’m learning Korean, Japanese, Spanish, and French right now. I might add Mandarin or Dutch (or both) later. There’s a decent Chinese population in my area, so there’s a demand to learn Chinese languages. I’m going to decide by April if I want to major in a foreign language (either French, Spanish, or both) when I go to college in the fall. I’m so happy that learning foreign languages comes so naturally to me.

My 2023 language goals are: Improving all of my languages as much as possible (English 🇺🇸 French 🇨🇵 Portuguese 🇧🇷 and Italian 🇮🇹. My native language is Spanish. PD: The flags also represent which accent I've learned, so please British and Portuguese people don't be mad) Learning Dutch. I began to learn Dutch one month ago and I can already understand many basic words and sentences. I've progressed very quickly. My knowledge of English has helped me a lot with Dutch, even though it isn't my native language. I've been learning Dutch on Duolingo (through English) and there are many similar words. My Romance languages don't help me that much with my vocabulary. I think French helps me more because there are some French words like plafond (ceiling), parapluie (umbrella) etc. Once I've become decently fluent (like a B2), I'd like to start over with German (I quit it before reaching an intermediate level) and learn a Scandinavian language. I don't know I'm still not sure if I want to learn Swedish or Norwegian (Danish pronunciation is so hard). Good luck with your language learning!

I have the goal of studying by bachelors in Germany and they require a c1 level so I feel a little discouraged by that since I know I'll need some more time before I can start. With masters programs, many of them are taught in English and have no German test requirement/ optional. For work I think it entirely depends on what you want to do. I feel really inspired by your German journey!

Awesome! I'm learning Hebrew and Mandarin also! I had a hard time finding free resources for Hebrew. I didn't want biblical hebrew, which there was more resources for. I really suck at output and I should probably work on that too.

in brief: In this video, the speaker discusses their language learning goals for 2023. They are studying six languages: French, German, Turkish, Arabic, Mandarin, and Hebrew. Instead of setting yearly goals, they focus on quarterly goals, as they find it more digestible and suitable for their fluctuating schedule and changing interests. Their general language learning goal for the year is to take 100 italki lessons. For specific language goals, they aim to pass the C1 DALF exam for French, the B2 Goethe exam for German, and reach a B1 conversational level for Turkish. The speaker also introduces their 2023 Language Plan-&-Track on Notion, designed specifically for language learners to help organize their goals and studies. They give a tour of the template, showing how they plan their quarterly goals, track their progress, and log their daily studies.

My language goal for 2023 is achieve B2 in 🇸🇪 and c1 in 🇫🇷 and 🇪🇸. Most important part for me this year are accents. Of course I need to develop grammar, especially In annoying Romance languages but I’m in love with all of them and want to be fluent It’s a little bit sad for me that I can’t learn more just because I don’t have time with my other aspects of life and also I want to be really fluent and it’s really difficult for more than +-4 languages

Main goals: Hebrew c2, French c1, Russian consolidate A2 towards b1. Maybe do some intensive Spanish and Italian to consolidate to B1 speaking and listening level. . I would like a very specific roadmap of how to get to c1 and c2. I find the general advice of consume media and read books to be helpful only up to a point, but doesn't address things like how to deal with a rental contract, how to speak about economics, statistics, psychology, science, discussing a medical issue with a doctor etc, etc. The roadmap would include things like review a rental contract 3 hrs, take human biology 101 15 hours and write summaries, etc. Regarding Hebrew and Arabic, there is some lexical overlap, but the two languages are mutually unintelligable. I only speak Hebrew, not Arabic, but understand that Arabic grammar is more challenging. Apart from some individual words, I can't understand Arabic just based on my knowledge of Hebrew.

Honestly I've given up on setting goals with language. Instead, I focus on, "Okay, what can I actually DO? What's the routine?" Before, I would set goals and setting the goal felt like enough, so I would never follow through on the action plan. So now I focus on the system and I figure any goals I would have set will be accomplished anyway as a natural consequence of having a routine. (If any of that makes sense? lmao) Speaking long-term, I would like to get to a C1 in Spanish and I'd also like to revive my Chinese and French.

I have a Carioca friend on Facebook who teaches Portuguese online, but I don't know how much she charges. If you already know Spanish, you'll pick up Portuguese that much quicker, but you have to treat it as its own language, and not just as an 'irmãozinho do espanhol', 'hermanito del español'. Spanish is my first foreign language, and after learning Portuguese I used it for 10 years daily in my career. You'll love Brazil, the people, the food, the music, and the language! Food varies regionally. On the coast it will be a lot like Dominican food. In the South, churrasco, barbeque, is very popular. 'Pega com a mão' means to pick it up with your hand, and that's how they eat barbeque in Brazil; they don't drown it in sauce as we in Texas do. In Brazil, rap music is pronounced 'happy'. Rock music is pronounced 'hockey'. Some things in Portuguese are simpler. While in Spanish you'd say, 'Se me robó la cartera,' in Portuguese it'd be 'Minha carteira foi roubada,' so it's closer to English that way. 'Embaraçada' means embarrassed, not pregnant. 'Esquisito' means weird, not exquisite. In Colombia they refer to a bus as a 'buseta'; it's best to avoid saying that word in Brazil. Check out the *Portugués con Philipe Brazuca* channel; he was teaching Portuguese in Colombia for a while. Brazil is mostly Catholic, but there are a lot of 'crentes' / 'creyentes' - Protestants / Evangelicals - there too as well as Espíritas who follow the teachings of Allan Kardec, and diaspora Afro-Brazilian religions similar to Haitian Vodou, which are more Yoruba than Fon, same as in Cuba and Puerto Rico. The thing with Portuguese is to get used to the pronunciation. For example, many Brazilians pronounce 'arroz' as 'ajóis' - using Spanish phonetics where J in most cases sounds like the English H. Boa sorte no Brasil!

I just saw that you wrote LingQ Artikeln on Notion. Artikel is one of the few german words that without declension dont have a difference between singular and Plural. So while saying "Von den LingQ Artikeln, die ich gelesen habe, finde ich ..." is correct, saying "Ich lese ein paar LingQ Artikeln" isnt. It would be "Ich lese ein paar LingQ Artikel".
