I'm at that crumby moment in learning Spanish where I'm between B1 and B2 and I'm like ugh am I ever gonna learn this though??? I fall in and out of love of whatever language I'm learning at the time, but this video just reminded me of how many moments I wouldn't have had without even the most basic of the Spanish. Huge motivation, huge love.

@@elyssespeaks Old and unregulated vehicles. The driver is just a common guy that haven't been prepared to drive while transporting a lot of people. For example: when you drive a bus here you need to have a different kinda of license to drive a large vehicle (a bus) while transporting A LOT of people. Kombi's drivers were just common drivers...and always with a lot more passagers than expected for that kinda of vehicle. But there is a lot more envolved: conflit of interests, money from the bus corporatives, low quality of public transportation (bus and subways), a expensive bus ticket, while the kombi was a alternative, a dangerous alternative, but if a low price. From people trying to raise money (kombi's drivers) to people who needs to transport.

In fact its not that dangerous, well it depends on the suburb where you live... i live nearby Perisur and CU in Coyoacán ( next to tlalpan ) and it’s quite normal, cheap and safe to hop on the combi, but if you go to the borders of Mexico city and el estado de Mexico... oh boy forget about it, you have a big big chance to get robbed violently in the combi o camión... anyways I think we are so lucky to have such an accesible public transport system. I hope you have a chance to come back soon . Saluditos!

Learn whichever one you feel most attached to. Another thing to take into consideration might be what type of Spanish you're more surrounded by on a daily basis. Despite me living in Texas (real close to Mexico) with many mexican neighborhoods and all that relatively close, I decided on Spain Spanish because I like the accent and their pronunciation on "c" and "z". In addition, they have a rich and beautiful history, and I think if I would like to live in Europe for a bit. Oh, and Ester Exposito is from Spain jaja

Sooo, I learned English pretty early on. I was a very curious and annoying child to say the least and I would always ask questions. The library just didn't suffice, so I learned a whole new language just to learn the stuff I was interested in, we don't really have many sources of in depth info in Bulgarian (which has started to change, fortunately, I am trying to contribute to that). This obviously did a fundamental change on the way I think and form thoughts, becacuse the language takes up quite a lot of brain storage, +I got into it at 10 years old. I've only learned to appreciate my native language for the beauty it possesess, not only as my daily communication tool :D Plus, I've been learning German the last few years, got the B1 und fühle mich ganz selbstsicher über meinen Weg vorwärts mit dieser so schönen und nützlichen Sprache, habe mich viele so nette, freundliche Leute in den letzten Jahren kennengelernt. :) Sorry for the rant, it's just a topic very near and dear to me

Regarding the security of combis, I would say it really depends on the routes. Some are definitely dangerous and known for frequent muggings, while others rarely have any incidents. As a teenager, I used to take combis, micros and metro (but mostly metro and micros) and was never robbed. My cousins, who used to take very different routes, would definitely tell you a different story, though. I assume that your host dad knew that particular route wasn’t dangerous, right? (right?!)
