Thank you Anna for normalizing having language goals in your native language. I grew up speaking Chinese with my family but ever since living alone I find my Chinese getting rusty and I am willing to change that. Luckily I'm visiting my family soon and I will get more speaking practice.

Re: Harry Potter as the first language book, it’s totally true, you’re not crazy! But I also feel like it rings so true with what you said about children’s book and their vocab. I’ve picked up the first HP book in Spanish and I’m struggling to read it because every other word is vocab like “sparkling and mischievous eyes”, “hands as big as bin lids”, “grizzly and tangled beard”, and I’m like 🥲🥲🥲

I started off with actual child books like the ones with pictures and 2-3 sentences a page LOL after I read some without having trouble I moved up to Percy Jackson LOL and it was sooooo much easier !!

Your Russian and Spanish videos will be awesome for your viewers who are learning those languages. I’m still using your language learning Notion template and highly recommend it to anyone reading this planning out their language study this year! Choosing what languages to focus on when there are so many we want to learn is definitely the hardest thing…!

@@ritassoul3516 с том-то и проблема, что на суржике. Я тоже раньше думала, что языки очень похожи, что в украинском очень много от русского. А оказалось это был только суржик. Понятное дело есть много похожих/одинаковых слов, но как показала практика русские не понимают чисто украинский, не суржик

I love your goals in Russian and would love to see you make more videos about this language specifically. I find it fascinating the relationships we have with different languages compared to others, in the case with you and your sister and deciding how much you both are using it! I'm excited to see what you will produce in 2023!

This year I wanna focus on actually using the languages I'm learning (subtitling my videos, talking to people, etc.) in compromise with studying them the traditional way, so that I see that I'm not just learning and learning them and not using them :) Good luck on your French endeavors, I grew up around it so I find it quite easy, but I've heard your accent and it's quite good so you've already got a head start :D

when you said that living in a another country to naturally pick up a language depends on the experiences you have, as an introvert i totally agree with that '-' good luck with your languages goals! i'm starting french this year and this is the first time we're learning the same language together x

you’re inspiring me so much. my language goals are brushing up on my Albanian and Spanish. once I master these, i’ll move onto a language that I don’t know at all. Also it’s the opposite with me and my mom. I try to speak Albanian with her but she speaks English because shes so used to it😂 Thats why I lost Albanian in the first place because we both spoke English to each other

Thank you so much for this video! I really like what you said about to talk to camera to practise your speaking skills. I also live in Spain and after 6 months here I can understand people and try to reply to them, but it's very basic level of spanish, only useable for daily routine conversation

I’m literally reading the first Harry Potter book in Italian as my first book in Italian, I didn’t know that was a popular choice lol!! I would recommend using Practice Makes Perfect books to help you with French & Italian, they’re really good!

My goal this year is to learn Japanese and Korean by the end of 2023 and I can’t wait to to learn and grow with you ❤

Wow anna! the struggle to not add new languages to learn is real lol. I feel you. I've gotten a lot better at controlling it, thankfully, but it's still there. Also why harry potter is because it is an easy reading that becomes complex with time. It's not about the words per se , it's about how to manage hard grammar concepts and a complex context system in order to obtain meaning. Mind you, I've never used it, I am just showing you what other people told me.

I feel you about the Russian so much! I'm Russian-Ukrainian too but I grew up in Finland, so I answer my mum in Finnish and I understand Russian on a (nearly) native level, but I struggle with vocabulary and understanding why stuff happens (like I know the grammar but only by "just knowing", if that makes sense xD) Я может тоже начну маме деньги платить если буду отвечать на финском хаха идея вообще супер

Good luck with your language learning! For 2023 I am sticking with Japanese and Spanish, with my main focus being Japanese. I really want to learn to read the basics (hiragana and katakana words/sentences) and learn some (like a 100?) kanji. Starting to review what I so far have learned of hiragana today! :)

Same I already know Spanish and I’m learning French and Italian this year the best advice for you for all three of these languages are focus on Conjugation and Grammar.

Languages i am learning this year are korean , Italian and start Thai all just for the sake of interest and to enjoy them. I'm starting college in January (if they get everything together😡) and I also work part time, plus have my own youtube channel, yet I'm also going to be learning 4 languages: Swedish, Russian, Spanish, and American Sign Language. I have so much going on in 2023 but I want to challenge myself, I want to see how much I can push myself. Your a big inspiration for this, so thank you for that

Me: finally somebody said it! you go girl Я тоже носитель русского языка и большую часть жизни говорю на нем, живу в России, сдала ЕГЭ по русскому (final exam in school) на высокий балл, но есть одно большое "но". Я билингв и последние года четыре 70-80% времени я говорю и потребляю контент на английском, тогда как на русском я говорю только с семьей и друзьями. Поэтому мне все сложнее выражать какие-то мысли на уровне носителя, часто звучу не как носитель, даже мемы и смешные фразы вставляю на английском. На занятиях (я препод англ) лезу в переводчик за русскими словами, когда меня спрашивают их перевод. Но при этом все как ты сказала: я люблю родной язык и мне важно его сохранить в себе. Так что в новом году обязательно начну им заниматься! 💪

My languages and goals are: 1) Persian A2 ---> B1 (Read, listen, speak) 2) French B1- ---> B2 (Read and listen) 3) German B2 rusty ---> Good B2 (Read, listen, speak) 4) Spanish C1 ---> Comfortably reading Latin-American literature English and Dutch are no priority this year, since I already teach both.

Udělal jsem pro sebe také jazykový plán, který v tomto roce se snažím splnit. Po 9 měsících studování češtiny znám ji poměrně dobře. Takže můj jazykový plán: nejhlavnějším cílem je zlepšení své angličtiny. Ale, pokud skončím toto rychle, tak ještě bych se naučil ukrajinštinu. Takže je to všechen můj plán. Ano, on je velmi skromný. Ale jen nedávno jsem se stál bilingvem (ruština a čeština), proto nemám moc velké cíle. Přeji vám hodně štěstí. Čau!
