    This was seriously a mind blowing moment for me! I have no idea why it never dawned on me that I should do a reverse diet when I meet my weight loss goals! I've yo-yo'd so much over the years because I didn't know what to do when I met my goal! Thank you for sharing this!

    This makes so much more sense. My trainer gave us a diet of 1600 calories. I went from 2200 right down to 1600 for 6 weeks I was EXHAUSTED I went to a nutrition store he told me to bump up to 2100 and now after about 5 weeks I feel so puffy and bloated!!!!! So with this video I will surely weekly do a deficit of 100 calories and see how my body changes. I'm so excited!! THANK YOU

    This was so helpful! I lost 80 pounds and put 40 back on just by not paying attention to what I was eating after dieting. I had no clue about reverse dieting. I will use this once these 40 pounds are gone.. again! Thanks Mari!!

    Mari😍I love your videos. This one just woke me up in my health and fitness journey. I’m 42 years old, 5’0 135 lbs and I’ve been to yo dieting since I was 12 years old. I just lost 5% body fat and 20 lbs. in 6 weeks. I’ve lost weight this fast before but maintaining is just difficult. I love working out and this time I want to stop this cycle of up and down because I’m tired of the mental agony and I know it’s not good for my heart heart. I’m 2 weeks into my maintenance phase and I’m doing pretty good with staying within my caloric intake. This video just eased my mind in maintaining my weight loss. Reverse diet😍 I’m using MyFitnessPal pall to add calories into my meals. Thank you!!!!! I’m trusting the process 🏃🏽‍♀️🏋🏻‍♀️😍😍😍😘Mari!!

    Wow! I think that just solved my problem. I've been in a continuous cycle of gaining and losing 30 pounds. I would diet and workout and lose the weight and then start eating "normally" i.e. 2,000 calories and gain all the weight back! Thank you sooo much for this information!!!

    Reverse diet is something I have never heard of and I used to work in the gym business. So I really appreciate the fact that Professor Mari 😉 explained what it was with a visual example. Your the best!!! I do have a question though, wonder if you did this at a much slower process? Like three month have your calories reduced to 1300 and then incorporate the reverse dieting to 2000. Would this be effective at all?

    Hi Mari! First off, I love you and your instagram and your channel! I have a question. Do you always always count all of your calories? I used to count calories and it helped me but I also burned out of it because I found it exhausting and causing a little anxiety about what I eat. I feel I need to start doing it again because I’ve been on a bad spiral with my diet. Any tips about counting calories and how it was for you? Thanks so much! ❤️

    I’m still a little confused with where I’m supposed to be. I don’t love my mom belly, but everywhere else I’m ready to gain muscle and I’m slowing gaining some muscle, but not much. So should I just be eating more food? I’m naturally tall and lean with an athletic build, lifting weights at the gym, Little to no cardio. Is there more I should be doing? I am trying to eat cleaner most of the time.

    Hey Mari! So I'm currently in a carb cycle and plan to finish it off this month (for a total of 2 months on the cycle). I would like to bulk afterwards to grow my glutes, but wouldn't want to grow my thighs any further since they're pretty thick already (if anything I would want to tone them). Would you recommend a bulk anyways? Essentially the goal is bigger, toner glutes, but i know I can't have the best of both worlds here lol.

    Can you make a video talking in detail about the macros and calorie deficit please? I have been using my fitness pal and synced it with fitbit and I'm a little confused on the calorie deficit part. On fitbit I chose the plan with 750 calorie deficit and on my fitness pal the target calories are 1370, but somehow in sync with my calories lost from fitbit, daily calories that I can eat increases. So what is it that I should follow. My goal is to lose weight (50 pounds).

  • @hannahballstaedt5335

    @hannahballstaedt5335

    Your fit bit is tracking your exercise and that’s why it’s telling you to eat more. I don’t track my workouts in MyFitnessPal but I try to keep in mind how many calories I’m burning; and if I feel my body needs food, I eat a snack that’s high in protein. In this video Mari talks about increasing your caloric intake by 100 calories each week. My suggestion to you would be to essentially cut 100 calories per week. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to manage cravings and hunger when you’ve cut 700 calories out of your diet cold turkey. If you can handle the challenge, the results will be great; but you’ll have low energy and possible headaches and hunger pains. The best kind of diet is one that is sustainable, meaning that you can keep it going for a long period of time. The amount of calories cut is different for everyone but I would suggest cutting about 200 at first (2000-200=1800) and then follow that strictly for about 2 weeks. If you’re not losing weight, cut 100 more, and so on.

So do I need to be on a diet first (to reach my goal weight) and then start reverse dieting to avoid gaining the fat back and start building muscle? Or can I start with reverse diet to reach my goal and maintain and build muscle?

    So I’m not sure if this works, but could you, instead of dieting and THEN reverse dieting, reverse diet the entire time you’re trying to lose weight? Say you start at 1200 calories at 200 pounds and then add more calories as you lose weight till you get to your ideal caloric intake and weight, say 2000 calories at 150 pounds, all the while increasing the amount you workout in order to actually lose the weight. Could you do that? That way you’re not at a caloric deficit at the end of your weightloss and there’s no starvation mode etc? Or is that just not how it works? 😅

    Hi Mari, I have a concern. Let’s say.... hypothetically.... that I may or may not weigh 150 lbs currently... and I want to lose 35ish of those pounds to weigh what I used to weigh, at 115 lbs... buuuut in the past I had practiced intermittent fasting and water fasting and I had cut my daily calorie intake to a super low number when I did eat and basically just unintentionally wrecked my metabolism completely, all to lose that weight (which in the end only helped me to get down to 145 lbs at the lowest...and I gained it all back anyway so it wasn’t even worth it). Basically what I am trying to say is: what should I do if I am starting near the beginning of my weight loss journey (it’s week 2 and I haven’t lost a single pound) and I already have an EXTREMELY low and destroyed metabolism???? Like how could I possibly scoop my calorie intake any lower when my daily calorie intake is already like 1100 at the most and I STILL am not losing weight? Like what am I supposed to do then? Thank you so much 🙏🏻

    One thing: it's not SO much that your metabolism slows in a long diet. A large part is that your daily caloric needs for maintenance decreases after you lose a lot of weight. For example, in your case you lost 70 pounds, so your daily caloric needs to maintain your 'new' weight goes down by a few hundred calories per day. As you said, the best way to counteract this is build muscle as those muscles will burn extra calories all day every day. I lost 44 pounds so far in 9 weeks :) you look grrrrate!
