You don't even have to be Anti-Zionist... which messes me up, because Liberal Zionists are just as toothless and pointless as any other Lib. Even if you're Zionist, there's a chance in that spectrum they want peace. Bernie fucking FAILED at that, which was crushing. Even so, we just need to get the far-right out of EVERY fucking thing, because all they want is blood and power.

There's a similar comparison made by another Jewish person, I believe a year or two ago. It's a very powerful imagery for sure. ‘We have become our worst nightmare’…. That realisation needs to spread quickly
This is amazing. Brings me back to what it was like in Belfast during the troubles. The British army set curfews for Catholics and if you were caught out past curfew you could be shot or interned. People got arrested without trail and could spend years on jail for literally walking about.
@thomasrussell4674

You are such an important voice in this conversation. I was just talking with a friend who is kind of stuck in an unhelpful worldview, and I actually mentioned Northern Ireland many times as part of the conversation. Like, even in the supposed "worst" case scenario in which one party to a dispute retains some effective control over internal security, still the militarily dominant force can de-escalate, basically back away from the brink. See, even in the worst case scenario without some imagined perfect equality between two groups, even when a disparity of force still exists, EVEN THEN it's still possible for the least bad solution to be implemented, and I mentioned devolved parliamentary voting rights as a vague comparable example. And it's possible with a mismatch in power and force, yes absolutely things can get worse, as we're seeing now in the middle East. It doesn't have to be this way. Absolutely there's objective ways that things can meaningfully be made better or worse. And sure, peace isn't perfect, for example Gerry Adams got arrested by surprise out of the blue, I'm sure Sinn Fein didn't see that coming when they signed the good Friday peace accords, and yes once or twice the so called "real IRA" has still tried to do bombings, or even done some, and I'm sure there's been one off revenge attacks whether loyalist or Republican, but 1998 was the time when people said, ok from now on we're not all going to keep being endlessly aggravated by each other's provocations, even if one side up til now is objectively worse, just say that was true, we try to wash it all away and move on, make the most violent people the least relevant to the process, by making reasonable people the most effective.... this eventually starves the extremists of resources and recruits, so rather than being a self fulfilling conflict it becomes an uphill battle for sporadic violence to disrupt overall peace. Apart from justice, one of the most important things for people to resolve longstanding blood feuds and hatred, the other solution is just meeting each other, talking and seeing each other among families.

Before the Holocaust, the Zionists had already committed multiple massacres and displacement of Palestinians. So people who are surprised about why they act so much like Nazis, don't realize that Zionists were fascist ethnonationalists FIRST and thennnnn they had some humanity knocked into them when they experienced genocide. But this humanity resulted in empathy only for themselves - of course living in a bubble of Zionist propaganda and Israeli indictrination has caused their citizens to become a self-absorbed, self-serving people. They refuse to make parallels between what happened to them and what continuously happens to Palestinians. There's a cognitive dissonance there which is bolstered by the belief that they are special, they are "Chosen", and they are DESERVING of reparations for all their historical persecutions - never mind that the US and Britain don't seem to support reparations or land reclaiming for any other persecuted group, especially those with far more horrendous histories such as the Native Indigenous people, Black/African people, and Romani people.
The documentary Checkpoint (Yoav Shamir Fims, available on youtube) bears out this enlightened man's testimony. The daily humiliation the Palestinians are subjected to is horrific and heartbreaking.

@@constantineblyuz5786this is a false analogy from the beginning and ignores everything in between. Their religion doesn't call for that. A single group in less than half of the country wants to get rid of Israel. I'm pretty sure Colorado has the KKK or other white supremacist organizations, but you don't see them putting up walls around their communities, or giving them lesser citizenship. We don't make them go through checkpoints. But they very much are an enemy organization that have a history of killing people and terrorism. They are the greatest internal threat to the US... and yet they are treated equally. So maybe think about that for a while.
LOVE him! As a muslim who can do nothing but watch and cry as my Palestinian brothers and sisters are being slaughtered and oppressed and terrorized for years, voices like Shlomo's gives me hope and it's so important to be as outraged as he is to wake up this sleep walking world!
I don't think even colonialism describes this adequately. I am originally from Pakistan and my grandparents were in British India. I don't remember my history books mention any checkpoints, I know there were jobs and areas where Indians were not allowed to go, and there actually still are, but it doesn't come to a fraction of what Palestinians go through. And remember I am talking about the time where The Jungle Book and White Man's Burden was written, this guy is talking about TODAY.

Since about 25 years ago, I have been aware of the horrible and inhumane conditions the Palestinians have been subjected to, after reading a NYT Sunday magazine article by an American journalist who had travelled to Palestine and interviewed both Palestinians and illegal Jewish settlers. There was hope for Palestine before Rabin was assassinated by a radical Jewish settler from an organization of which Satanyahu was also a member of, and whose members were against the peace talks. IIRC, there were rumors at one time that Satanyahu was behind the assassination, and after seeing what a monster he is, I find myself believing those rumors can be true.
