great story. if comparing their advice, i personally like john's advice more. it just sounds more practical. pat's advice about "be there for the girl/guy" will turn that guy in her friendzone into a convenient tool man and she will never realize his value at all. pat's hk trip leaving john is the key so i'll agree on john's advice more.

Not really. Some can handle both pretty well. I like to chit chat while driving or sometimes we'll play movies for the kids, on long drives to malaysia and it keeps me awake and alert. I do have friends who can't hold a dialogue without getting nervous while driving though.
