"We are all about making progress here. Forget about perfection. That's just a Pinterest pipe dream." -- Thank you for saying this, Steph. It's easy to put off forward movement for being overwhelmed by wanting perfection. After 2 years, I'm just starting to get a rhythm for our new home. Thanks for being real. Blessings on you and your new home!

You have no idea how much your videos have changed my outlook on living in my small 1 bed 1 bath house. I struggle everyday with my depression and PCOS. I'm only 22 and an extreme perfectionist. I avoided doing daily tasks and caring for my self for over a year. Beginning January I discovered your channel and the fly lady system. I decided to take the plunge! I feel so much better already being able to live happily in my own home. Still have to declutter some things, but I constantly remind myself to be kind and everything will happen at a pace that is healthy for me💕

You are the reason I modify the FLY Lady system. Your sister's routine, your suggestions, and my adult children's desire to help me when I couldn't help myself for being overwhelmed made the difference. I also watched That Awkward Mom. All of you together have made a difference. My sink shines and I remember to smile. My bed gets straightened daily. I sweep/ mop more often. Swishing and swiping is a thing at my place. My ceiling is being ridded of cobwebs and my ceiling fans are getting better. My clutter is better in my eyes. I see little bits of time as opportunities to tidy. It seems it's more an attitude for me. I'm so grateful. Thank you for your channel. Hugs! 🤗🤗

Thank you for your honesty! It's hard to make our house look pinterest worthy. But I realized that my house is not a museum... but a home to be lived in and used by me and my family. Thank you again for the motivation. God Bless you and your family.

This was very inspiring and motivating. I was like "look at her go!" I like how you just took the vacuum and the mop bucket to every room like that. I really don't like mopping, so I'm going to try it this way. Edit: I already tried it! (With the timer video) It was great. The house looks better and in way less time than I thought and I feel very empowered. Definitely a keeper.

Steph, I have to tell you that I see the disappointment in your face. I know you felt a lot of pride in your last home and it was beautiful. But don’t forget what you’re here for when it comes to solving major life struggles for so many other moms. First, let me tell you that your new-to-you house is actually a breath of fresh air to alot of us (hoping I can speak for others here). To me, it demonstrates that you’re focused on the needs of your family, the new piece of land that is now YOURS!! as well as the potential that awaits. I personally LOVE that I’m not the only mom of three toddlers who has to do dishes BY HAND! I began reading about the Flylady method and you were the first mom I actually “clicked with” and I studied every video you made like my life depended on it. It WORKED/IS WORKING for me!!! You’re it!!! I’ve watched and subscribe to a billion channels and you’re the only Tuber I’ve seen who I truly feel I have connected with. Watching your videos makes me feel like I have a friend out there who gets it. Just “GETS” it!!! I’ve worked my butt off to get rid of clutter in my home. I’ve listened and practiced and although it’s taken a great deal of time, the methods have worked. I have your printouts all over my house and I USE THEM! My entire life has changed, drastically. I still have a long way to go but I know I can do it! I don’t know if I would have what I have without your help. You are my “Diane” (hygge still being a really odd concept). Please don’t take any more breaks! I just cannot handle the others! You literally get me out of bed and motivate me to move and spend time being a mom instead of obsessing over the mess and avoiding it or getting tunnel vision and feeling exhausted from working so hard and getting nothing done. Please know how much you mean to us and don’t forget to water your plants! LOL Love ya, sis! Aaaaaall the way from Oklahoma 🌾🍃🤠🚜👩🏼‍🌾

Hi Steph, good to see you looking chirpy! Don't beat yourself up, you're doing a great job - house looks great and potty-training is a giant leap! Maybe you can get the kids involved with PUPAs: "pick up and put away". Just a few minutes on the timer (before/after meals, before bedtime etc) stops the mess in its tracks. Good luck and say Hi to your Mum! 🖐😍

Steph, I can tell you are down about starting over with a new home and fly lady, but you have already made so much progress! That makes me sad because you are awesome and positive and kind! Yes, be kind to yourself! Try not to compare this house with the old one. You were there for three years or so and that was three years of perfecting your routines. Plus, you have more children and it’s an adjustment living in the country. I think it takes like a year or so to just find a place for everything in your home, especially if you downsized. Everyone who watches your channel doesn’t expect perfection, just hoping to get motivation because we’re all struggling:) thanks for being real! Your videos really help me!!!!

I seriously love that your new house isn’t totally carbon-copy the same as everyone else’s on KZread right now. Anyone who has spent much time watching cleaning videos knows that all of these lady’s houses have a similar look and their decorating is flawless and they have the same color palette even lol As someone who lives in a house that is nice but is older and requires some renovations, it’s so refreshing to see someone get it all done in a house that isn’t exactly Pinterest-y! So much more relatable. I love on my home and keep it tidy even though it isn’t how I would perfectly want it to look. And I totally agree with the doing something over striving for perfection thing. I’m at a place in my life where I’m pregnant with two toddlers and it just isn’t realistic to think that I’m going to scrub every nook and cranny of my house constantly. I think I do a good job of keeping it clean and tidy but it’s by no means perfect.

You have been such an inspiration to me! I grew up in a very messy home and we never had a cleaning routine. You have inspired me to start the fly lady system and I spent all weekend decluttering and watching you and Diane in Denmark. Day two of shining my sink today and when I got home from work I tackled a 15 minute task. Not from the zone cleaning but just decluttering one small area. The power hour is such a good idea! Thanks so much for sharing real life with us. I know I don’t feel so alone in this struggle anymore!☺️

As a mom of 3 now grown children, I encourage you to have the little ones pick up their toys, even just tossing them in a bin. It’s great training now so that as they get older it doesn’t fall on you to do it all. No offense or criticism intended, just a tip from one much, much older mom.

Every once in a while i get a sudden boost of motivation and i spend 2 days deep cleaning the whole house. Well usually i dont even finish what i started and i end up being so burned out and tired that i dont clean for another few months. I tried this technique instead on my room, i devided it into 5 parts and i worked on each one of them for 5 mins. Of course it wasnt perfectly clean but it only took 25 minute so i actually repeated it again because it was fun. And i didnt feel tired or burned out. I think i will do it again next weekend. Love this video Steph!! I’m in such a busy season of life with working full time and having a 2 yr old, and I feel so overwhelmed with keeping the house clean. But this video really convinced me that the power hour could help.

If anything is worth doing it is worth doing badly! I love that and it is true in many areas of our lives. Striving for perfection creates stress and steal the joy from our lives.

I love it how you clean your house in only one hour. The quote, "progress not perfection", I would love to print that off in a fancy look and put that in front of my binder with to do lists. Is it possible that you create something like that? Sending you lots of love for you and your beautiful family. 😘

I think you are doing AWESOME and the best part is your positivity & attitude!!! Having no dishwasher used to put me behind as well when we were in that season! Not that you asked for advice, but this coming from the heart, I just think that severely reducing your inventory will drastically help with the upkeep in the long run. I know this bc I used to be right where you are now, and then began to minimize severely when we put our house on the market. Of course by then, the kids were nearly grown but now, it is such a peaceful home bc of the drastically reduced inventory (and we still have what we need!! ) Just wanted to share this with you since YOU have encouraged me with your printables, cleaning recipes, and positive energy!! :D

Cass from Clutterbug did a video a little while ago in which she made the case that perfectionism leads to procrastination. We have this idea that if something is worth doing it's worth doing well. So we put off doing jobs until we can do them perfectly. That time never comes. Much better to do an average job NOW than to wait for a tomorrow that will never come to do it perfectly. Such a change of mindset is truly liberating. As you say, Steph: Progress, not perfectionism.

Lol. I was like “ooh, her house is old and not (completely) updated, like mine!!” (We’re working on it, but cabinets make such a difference…) Then when you said you moved from a big, beautiful, custom home, I was like “ugh, should’ve known…” Hahaha. That’s my dream. BUT it made me feel better when you pointed out how quickly you were getting done, because my house is pretty small. Anyway, loved the video, and I’m looking forward to seeing your renovations!

Thanks for another inspiring video Steph! I deeply appreciate your authenticity…it is refreshing. I have been following you from the start when Diane in 🇩🇰 first mentioned your channel and you have become a favorite of mine. I understand the figuring out the flow of your routine in a new home. And it is especially challenging while working on your house at the same time. I am in the same boat right now. Congratulations on potty training your son.

I am so bad at thinking I don’t have time to get things done. I did your 5 x 5 and got 2 bathrooms swished and swiped, the bed made and bedroom picked up, the litter box scooped and litter swept up, a quick vacuum of the bedroom, bathrooms, living room and kitchen, emptied the vacuum and moved clothes from the washer to the dryer. Wow! Not perfect but so much better! Thanks

Love it! I'm in much of the same situation, we just moved last summer and I have 3 little kids and homeschool and all my systems were in order in my old house! We actually doubled the size of our house, so that doesn't help. Starting my power hour now. ❤

I do this and it's surprising how much you can actually get done in 5 minutes. If the timer goes off and I'm in the middle of a task that's only going to take a minute or two to finish, I go ahead and complete it though. But this method helps me to get way more accomplished instead of trying to get one room perfect.
