Love how you've been pumping out these videos! Great tips. There's a lot that needs to happen behind the scenes for someone to gain traction (I'm with you, I've been trying to get there for about a decade and slowly started understanding it better this year) but most important of all: create something good and fun! Great video Goodgis😁

If you go into indie development for profit, you're doing it wrong. For every Scott Cawthorn there's 10000 developers who didn't make a dime. You have to make games you want to make because you like making them. With passion comes quality and with quality, you should start getting sales eventually.

I agree you have to make games you like (unless youre making projects to learn from etc) but idk I feel like they're plenty of passionate people who make games they like or would want to play but sometimes they're super niche or the developer isn't good at a certain aspect and they make a game that they do not know how to market or even have time to market and their job ends up coming first and they can't create their dream game...There's so many reasons why a game might not be selling and that could be a long video in it's self.

Great Video! One thing though, if You're planning to release on a console (and can cover the porting costs and time), try and combine this with your game's full PC release at the same time: * You'll get more visibility from the credibility * You'll save costs from focussing on a single marketing campaign.

So I'm brand new to Godot and watching you're videos make me excited to start my journey, I started with unity but I think I am wanting to switch to Godot because I am wanting to learn python and GDscrpit. I feel like both will be beneficial to know for doing other projects beside games. But also I think my issue with unity is that there is tutorials for everything so I go and watch a tut. and dont really grasp everything that I watch. So I am hoping that with Godot it will push me further to try and figure it out myself and be able to retain the information. Thank you for the great content.

  • @Goodgis

Heck yeah, I love to hear it. :D I will say, even though there are more Unity tutorials a lot of them are just bad. You learn bad programming practices. Even though Godot has less, they usually are much better and more thorough. But anyway, I wish you the best of luck. :D

@Goodgis Yes, there are some people that got particularly lucky or "lucky" quickly. Some guys are also very intense with creating and get better results than most people, but in general there is no magic pill ;-) It is actually good that bigger gamedev youtubers like you cover that topic from time to time to get things more real for new people. I recently watched a video when a guy with a several years of AAA gamedev barely covered Steam's cost after few months, already having some audience.

Qaulity stuff as usualy. This gives me hope, I'm not there yet, but I will get there if I keep at it and just keep putting my work out there for people to play and see. It's less about money though, and more about getting more people to play and enjoy my games. Even If I don't make it though, I still have fun doing it.

I like the analogy at 4:40, imagine instead of shouting 1 person whispered about somethign cool in the persons ear. then another into another. all those people shouting would then wonder what they were whispering about. it doesn't matter how loud you are, sometimes it's better to get the attention you want = word of mouth

Great advice and you don't just want an audance you want a comunity some KZreadrs get 1 millions of veiws a video yet have next to no subs... Plenty of money but if they are followed if at all not for them but maybe a single series they make or loosely at best. So yeah and normally you don't get to choose what you get. But unless you absolutely need the money you normally want the comunity and the money can always come later.
