Excellent video. If you were a Salon owner would you suggest a flat monthly booth rental or split commission agreement? For example would you, as the owner, favor a 50/50 split for the stylist or a 60/40 split but the stylist is responsible for the consumable products used in the appointments? Why or why not? Thank you 🙏🏼

We get hourly at Supercuts and tips . Just 10% of products sales. There is a new thing card flex pay. Throughout the entire course of the pay period which is two weeks if you get OVER two clients within an hour, CONSISTENTLY, I will get the flex pay which is $57. But let’s say one day you’ll only get two within an hour or you will not get the flex pay. It basically just encourages the stylist to get as many people in and out as possible.

I’ve had my cosmo license for 10 years but in my super small town, the industry is so swamped that I haven’t been able to make it solo as a stylist & I’m a hospital receptionist right now and I hate it. I want to do hair so so badly. I rent my home & can’t renovate to have a salon at home. A new stylist moved to town recently and she’s renovating a building to be a salon and I feel honestly out of luck. There’s like 8 solo shops and no one booth rents. Any ideas? Suggestions?

The great clips I work at we get paid hourly ($15/hour for full time, $12/hour for part time) plus tips and if we sell over a certain amount of product we get a very small commission. Not sure if it’s because ours is privately owned. All the great clips in our area is owned by one local franchisee.

When you consider all of the overhead and how expensive it is to operate a salon... between all of the bills just to keep the place up and running, the cost of products, the POS system, scheduling program, receptionist, insurance, licensing, etc. It's actually totally fair to get 50% when all you have to do is show up, work, and then go home and not have to worry about any of the behind-the-scenes of the business. Even if you worked for yourself, you probably wouldn't actually pocket more than 50% of your service sales after you pay for all the overhead, plus there's the stress of running a business on top of that. When you work commission, the other 50% isn't just going into the owner's pocket, it's going towards overhead.
