    I feel like the hair salon I go to almost undercharges. every time I leave with exactly what I wanted and I feel I should be paying more than what they ask. I always try to give bigger tips bc I have never been so happy with my hair!!

    Salaried employees like myself do have to work extra hours for free… it sucks. But I get your point!!!! Also love stylists who give the price consult upfront don’t have me guessing because that is anxiety inducing and will have me canceling.

    @ Kaysea, maybe put a sign up, with the services & the prices, the you don't have to explain. Or have a small menu, for lack of a better word, with the services & prices listed. We used to go to Pet smart, for our small dog, & usually it was around the same rage, unless something extra. CHARGE, Because people Really need their dogs groomed, & you do your work with compassion and care. We didn't care how much, we just wanted someone who was kind, gentle & good 🙂🌸👍

    People wouldn’t go to a restaurant and try to haggle with the waiter about the prices of an appetizer or ask for a free glass of wine. The same goes for your hair, nails, lashes or whatever other service you want. When people provide a service, you should respect that and if you can’t afford it, it’s not their fault or responsibility to change the price.

    YES girl. I am in a wedding in August. Bride is super chill & longtime friend, says we can all do our own hair. Everyone agreed upon that, but I guarantee someone will ask me to do it for them. Honey I have Venmo. 😘 I’m literally only bringing the bare minimum with me to do my own hair and that’s it. Of course I’d help the bride because she’s been my friend forever, but this isn’t going to turn into a full bridal party and me working. Hell. No.

    I wish more hair stylist did this. MAYBE then i would actually go back to a salon and get my hair professionally cut.... I currently just do it at home but sometimes i do want to go to the salon. But having the price be told AFTER they are done is annoying. I always try to get at least a range so I know what to expect but i always get the same answers "oh well your hair is curly so we cant really tell you how much it will be", "oh your hair is too dense so we cant really tell you how much it will be" i got so sick of feeling embarrassed bcuz of my hair that i just bought shears and do it at home. More hair stylist should be more like you. Or at least follow some of these.

    Same! I have very thick and curly/wavy hair and I end up spending a lot more money than expected. They would call over another stylist to help do my hair and I have to end up tipping both stylist when I didn’t ask for 2 people.

    Omg you made this video right on time. 😩 This is something I’ve been dealing with for a while but has now, I couldn’t figure out for the life of me how I was seeing more people and doing more services but I’m not seeing it in return. Turns out I have been under charging (unknowingly) for my work. 😬 Also, struggle with clients paying my prices. They’re always looking for something cheap.

    yes, girl! So right! I work in retail selling high-end cosmetics and fragrances. Costumers constantly b*tching about prices to us- and in my case it's not even something I have control over. You can buy a 10 dollar face cream from a drug store...nobody needs luxury skincare or fragrance to survive. You can't afford? Don't buy! End of story!

    We were in extreme poverty I had to pay my beauty school my dad cut our hair my mom paid for 2 haircuts till I got a job after school my parents ingrained in me makeup and beauty salons were a luxupyry food other pellet I had that poverty mentally so I had trouble and what I was worth because I thought everyone was poor like me until I started seeing the houses in the cars that they were driving etc. I’m slowly beginning to get it. I’ve been in the industry for a very long time but I’m beginning to get it that’s my job. This is the way I pay my bills. I chose this career because I like making people feel good and making people look good and that definitely is priceless so I’m learning that I must charge or else I get resentful and think to myself what am I doing? Jean, I’m working so hard but cannot pay my own bills

    Thanks so much Sam you love beautiful by the way x I found the pandemic was a total re set for my salon . I only do one at a time nowadays and feel pricing has gone up also due to ppe and sanitizer and disposable gear too. So if I only can do one client now it needs to cost more . Clients are happy once they are safe in salon and most are very happy to pay more now for a one to one service. I find I'm much much less stressed also and actually enjoy my work more instead of constant time pressures.

    Awesome video sam! I have a video request! Could you do a video talking about how to hired in a salon as a stylist? What were some of the interview questions? I would appreciate it🥰

  • @styledbysamvay

    @styledbysamvay

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thank you :) To be honest, my first salon offered me a job without even applying because I knew the owner’s daughter and the second one was with my boss now, who is extremely easy going and I was referred by another employee at the time. So I never had a traditional interview at a salon, so I honestly don’t even know what they would typically ask. But my best advice is to have a portfolio (Instagram works for that too), dress to fit in at the salon, and have some of your own questions prepared! So many people solely focus on what they will be asked and don’t think about what they need to be asking. You need to make sure this is definitely the right fit for you, so I would ask things like “do you offer education?” “Does the salon supply everything for the stylists?” “How much control do your stylists have over their schedule?” Etc.
