I always said they have suction cup feet. if they don't want to walk anymore then nothing you can do will get them walking. I have had to carry them when they are done. actually one dachshund I carried to the halfway point where we turn around and then he happily trotters back like this is a great happy walk-trying to get him to walk in the beginning was him sniffing posts and spot in people's yards... I'd fall for it, try to force or pull him to get him going once you see that move to plant his suction cup feet there is no budging (I am not a mean owner that yanks with force or would hurt the dog in a rough way) so because it always looked like a stranger standing in someone's driveway or at their sidewalk that leaves me standing right in front of living room windows just a little too long and me being paranoid that the homeowner wouldn't see the leash and small dark dog sniffing their mailbox or bush then I look like the stalker creeper. He knew what he was doing...they are so smart and if they want you to carry them then they are goooooooood at what they need to do to get human to fall for it. I had learned as a kid that our dachshund had a snake neck so watch out for when he dips his head because you know he's getting out of the collar and that thing is going to torpedo on back. (harness weren't a thing back then). my first dachshund after graduation was so good he knew how to be a snake to get out of the harness. I swear!!! this sort of cat like snake where he would tuck in shoulders, dip neck and do this bow and then me always watching for that move so I could be ready to catch him when he gets out!! because just because he didn't want to walk doesn't mean he doesn't want to play a fun game where you chase him all over. one lil guy would dip out of harness and just watch the snap back from flexi line and he would sit (that butt swerve sit). another way that one taught me that it's time to carry if you want to move past this person's house.

I was a dog groomer long ago. And one day this tiny little girl walks in the door with a leash….that drooped behind her then curved up and up and UP. And a Newfie came in behind her. She looked to be the size of one of his legs. When they stopped at the counter he stood with his head held high, and one foot planted firmly on either side of her. He had all of my attention. All I could think was “will he eat me when I try to take him from her?” He did not. But he did stop to plant that giant tongue all the way up the side of her head, then carefully gave her back all her hair in his mouth. He was very good, and humongous.

Tru story for Newfoundlander: In my personal experience, it's more of a push-you-to-the-side "get outta my way" running style. When I was young, I used to go to my uncle's lakeside cottage. Our fun was to run on the pier and jump into the lake at the end. His Newfoundlander's fun, however, was to race us to the end of the pier. If she saw she was losing, she'd toss us on the sides of the pier so we fell off it (into the water of course) so she could get to the end before us. Good memories!

The top knot is soooo cute!!
Aww, thanks for including a shih tzu this time!! Although I’m not gonna lie to you, the correct answer to “How do shih tzus run?” Is…they don’t. They act tired so that someone has to carry them, preferably like you’d hold a human infant.🤣
I don't know why I enjoy your videos so much, but I am constantly coming back to them. Excellent work, bro.
