@@missingallmymarbles7670 Had a neighbor's dog come at me back in October after I moved in with my fiance. It was dark, I had my boy on a leash, and this massive dog came tearing at us like greased lightning. Iknew running would be stupid, especially since I had nowhere to go besides the porch where he could've caught me pretty easy, so I hefted my boy up with one arm (not smart since he's almost 40lbs and I threw my shoulder out) and started waving my free hand around and yelling at the dog. Got him to back down long enough for his owner to come grab him. Running from a strange dog is a bad idea. They're gonna be faster than you.

My mom had a german sheperd when she was kid, she often tell us some stories. Like Dina (the german sheperd) was sitting next to her cradle (well this one my grandma tell us, of course mom don't remember lol) while her mother was gone for groceries. The gate was open and the cradle (and dog) was in the middle of the court, because it was a nice weather. A neighbor wanted to come see her and play with her , an old woman they knew well and who knew the dog too, but she was not able to get one metter close to the cradle, Dina was growling on her. Some years later, mom was like 6 or 7 and an uncle was visiting. They were in the garden behind the house when he decided to leave and Dina followed him while mom and her parents stayed in the garden. When they finally joined the house after an hour, they could see my uncle in the corridor next the front door, just standing her and Dina sit next to him. When they asked why he was still here he told them to watch. At the moment he put his hand on the knob, Dina growl at him. he just couldn't leave XD Grandma called Dina, told her it was fine and the uncle could finally leave XD

My grandmas german shepard though...kind to family and friends but will hunt deer and sheep if left without supervision. He is a trained dog who went to school for 4 years and still has some incredibly strong instincts. Good guard dog though.

@@roanoke7551 our Doberman was super chill as well (rest his soul). He loved everyone, even when friends he didn’t know came over her was all about lovins. Until the one day strangers pulled up into our drive , which was in the middle of the woods. His hair went up on his back and he became fierce. I swear it was because he sensed my apprehension.

Working in the garage, my GS laying beside me, Black Lad comes in there out of know where and that was a big big mistake. That poor dog didn't know what hit him. I've never seen so much black fur floating in my life. Went and got my good boy a treat.

Oh I surely would love those dogs. I would give them anything they want and in return, they just will play with the victim that's the robber, then I call the police. If someone wanted to pretend prank I would tell them I had a German Shepherd and if they still do it, I will tell them to act like friend, not foe. It is noted I don't have those cuz I am a grade 5 Filipino boy

From my personal experience, my German Shepherd is just to dumb to notice an intruder until they walk on top of him. He's also a scaredy cat and wants me to protect him from the scary people, but he tries to step up if he thinks there's real danger. He's a sweetheart

Anxious due to poor breeding. They're cookie-cutter desinger gsds, they don't have the confidence of the original German Shepherds. If you want a better guard dog you havr to get the East German Working Line or Malinois.

I Have a Japanese Mastiff. He likes to play with his food.

I've heard stories of German Shepards just waiting, hiding in the dark quietly while a robber enters a home. The dog will wait until the intruder is fully inside and then attack. While most dogs would just bark as soon as theres a sound, a Shepard will give the would be burglar a false sense of security before ripping him apart. Incredible dogs.

German Shepherds are interesting, they usually wait it out to see what you're all about, friend or foe. My friend German Shepherd was feeling me out and when I was hanging with him and when he determined I was friend, the dog's reaction was funny, the dog was like "I have determined that you are friend, I would like to receive pets from you now and I shall also protect you as member of the pack." It was pretty funny.

My grandmother's shepherd was trained to essentially trap people in the doorway and wait for her to say whether they were allowed in... and he definitely knew the assignment! he was a great dog!

Came home to my apartment door open, and and my Chihuahua just sitting in the doorway. Turns out several apartments on my floor had been broken into. They busted the lock but couldn't get past 7lbs guard dog. The police were laughing their asses off at the hallway surveillance tape.

Several years ago, my daughter and great niece were out playing close to dusk. My wife called them in, and our GSD took off. About twenty minutes later, we heard him on the front porch. When I opened the door, the first thing that I saw was that his mouth was bloody. Upon further examination, his feet were bloody too, so we rushed him to the veterinarian hospital. On the way, I noticed that he had punctures on his feet, and thought that he may have gotten into barbed wire on the property. At the vet's they thought that he had been hit by a car, but I thought that unlikely. We had to leave him overnight for surgery & other treatments. On the way home, I looked down at my own hands and saw the recent bite scar that he had given me when I had tried giving him a bath. I realized that the bite that he had given me was identical to his injuries. It was at that point I realized that he had done his job and gone after Coyotes in order to protect my daughter & great niece. So in the end, he wound up losing a toe due to the damage done to it, fighting Coyotes, and he'll be 11 next month.

I was fortunate enough to grow up around a german shepherd. I'd never get one myself, I just don't have the time or space to own such an amazing animal, but I remember cuddling up next to her as a kid and her scaring the crap out of any visitors. XD

I grew up with a German Shepherd. He tried to tell my mum when our neighbours shed got broken into. Two weeks later he caught the same guy in our garden trying to get into our shed. Burglar paralysed in fear at a 9 stone German shepherd ready to clear the fence if he ran. The police said he was a hecking good boy. He’s long since passed but I’ll never forget him. ❤

As a German Shorthaired Pointer with many German Shepard friends I have to agree. We GSP’s are (in my experience) not so different. We’ll point and stare, give a chance to leave without chasing you, however, we’ll most likely jumpscare you by first pretending to run towards you. And may the odds be ever in your favor if you decide not to leave. (How my Goodest girl scared off a group off walnuts one night).
