How does an Electric Car work ? | Tesla Model S

Electric cars are making big waves in the automobile world. These noise-free, pollution-free and high-performance vehicles are expected to make their I.C. engine counterparts obsolete by 2025. This video will unveil the hidden technologies behind the Tesla Model S, which recently became the world’s fastest accelerating car. We will see how electric cars have achieved superior performance by analyzing the technology behind the induction motor, inverter, lithium ion battery power source, regenerative braking and above all, the synchronized vehicle mechanism, in a logical, step-by-step manner. The working and features of Tesla car is explained here with help of animation.

    I know this was posted 6 years ago but that 2025 date is fast approaching and as expected EV's will never make ICE cars obsolete. EV's are still less than 1% of the entire U.S. auto fleet for many reasons. The disadvantages mentioned here for the EV were very few and have many more than an ICE car. The first is pollution free. EV's cause far more pollution than ICE cars. The dirty mining process of rare earths metals to produce those 1 ton batteries, to having to use fossil fuels to charge them, to the end of life of dumping highly toxic lithium in landfills is a highly polluting process. Much of an ICE car can be recycled while EV batteries aren't. Add to this that they use coolant for the batteries just like ICE cars use coolant, they also have brake parts, brake fluid, steel for the body, glass and plastic for the windows and lights, rubber tires...ect. The other problem is cold weather. The battery range of these is far less in colder climates. ICE engines are actually an innovation over the EV's. They were able to invent all the parts required to make it run efficiently, economically, longer lasting and much more affordable to the consumer. The other problem is cost of maintenance. They are highly computerized and the batteries themselves are very dangerous which means only a specialized dealer can service them which also drives up the cost of ownership. The reason why ICE engines will remain is because the essentially an EV is nothing but a giant battery. The power source is stationary and built into the car which is a huge flaw in itself since its temporary and degrading. The ICE engine on the hand has it's power source externally. So it can be added and replenished whenever needed. Additionally, it can use competing fuel sources such as gasoline, diesel, ethanol, natural gas and hydrogen thus making it far more versatile. An EV can only be powered by a battery that is permanently locked into the car. It's very permanent power source which is also large percentage of it's value is designed to fail. The EV predates the ICE car by around 50 years for many reasons. The ICE engine car is an innovation over the EV. Converting to an EV would be a regression rather than a progression.

    Very interesting and excellently realized video. Many thanks! As a passive safety engineer myself, I would like to add that the presence of the battery pack increases the torsional stiffness for sure, but not so much for lateral impact safety (the battery structure must be protected, thus the intrussions are to be managed via the body-in-white rocker structure mainly). Also for the front unit crumple zone, yes, it is largely increased (if a front motor does not exist), but in counterpart, the rear crumple zone is more difficult to manage comapred to an ICE car (the rear motor and invertor must be protected in the case of rear impact). Thanks again, hope my comments would be accepted as constructive opinion. No intention of critisism.

    As we have seen after Hurricane Ian in Florida, many electric vehicles burst into flames after water breached the batter compartment of several electric cars. These cars when bursting into flames have en extremely HOT flame as it is a "chemical reaction" and not necessarily a regular fire.

    I love the mechanical simplicity of these cars. Less messy. That being said, I'm not sure how more friendly to amateur repair it is, compared to ICE's. I just hope there will be a market for elegant and affordable electric vehicles soon, especially interior wise. I'm not interested in autonomous vehicles and all-touch screen infotainment systems are costly to manufacture, repair and are stupidly complex, imo. You could drop retail price by at least 5 grand by removing autonomous function and simplifying dashboard and infotainment by not compromising interior material quality.

    1. Agreed about autonomous being totally undesirable to a real driver. The children who text while driving are the target audience. 2. Tesla's Full Self Drive is a $12k option that can be downloaded any time (like, if you're drunk and stupid ideas suddenly make great sense). 3. FSD can be rented on a monthly basis. 4. Glad I bought my pre-owned Tesla when I did. When gas hit $6/gal EV resale prices went through the roof and Tesla added FSD to all their preowned inventory. Hey, if the market will pay, good for Tesla.

    Power to you! Best of luck! I own a Tesla its a the best car I have ever owned/driven and I've owned a few good ones. The fact this is a non-polluting fast car that is frequently getting updated is amazing. The driving experience is like no other and you truly feel like you're part of the future. Even the Chevy Bolt and Hyundai Ioniq are great cars but Tesla certainly has the advantage of supercharger network that allows a person to take road trips with peace of mind.

    Sal Cameli The $40k price was from 2012. I don't keep track of Tesla battery prices. You can pay upfront for one @ $12,000.00 but can't get it for 8-years. What a scam! Why do I want to pay $40k for a car that I can't take on vacations or business trips? Plus who wants to die in a fire or self driven into the side of a semi. Just an expensive death trap. ☠️☠️☠️You should move to Mars with Elon Musk.👽

    Wouldn't it be more convenient if the battery pack was removable. That way you could swap your depleted battery for a charged one at a gas station and pay for the energy difference.

  • @frisosmit8920

    PhazonSouffle that's a great idea, but I think it runs into some practical problems like how do you have batteries for every type of electrical car at most gas stations

  • @MetallicReg

    @MetallicReg

    7 жыл бұрын

    PhazonSouffle Not only that. There are many technical problems with that approach. It has been already tested several times (mostly by electro scooter companies in Japan). You also need a significant number of spare battery packs scattered across the country. People don't like the inconsistency - some drive responsibly and treat the batteries better than others. They don't want lower distances because somebody else likes to race at their maximum etc. To sum this up: This is prehistoric fuel car logic. It is not you who needs to drive somewhere to fuel up - it is the fuel that needs to be present everywhere - aka electricity. The next step is, that the cars manage their charge themselves - followed by a crowd intelligence car sharing system.

    That won't be easy. The only new successful battery technology in the last 125 years has been lithium ion. LI technology hasn't been much improved in the last 30 years... the Tesla is running on AA batteries because if you make them much larger they do things like catch on fire. Unfortunately, chemistry puts the kibosh on new "breakthrough" battery technology. You will note that there is a new "battery breakthrough" announced about every six months... and then crickets. That's been going on for the last 100 years.

    Your perspective is not based on reality: qph.ec.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-f2e0a02e01f39e032741cfb7bb9e349d.webp qph.ec.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-f7229912423c6971d3dddc94158e9f67 We have a lot of new options that are being worked on - and no they don't get forgotten and none of them crickets. It is just that lithium ion has an advantage of being extremely versatile and does not pollute the environment as much as those alternatives. Mostly they are disqualified by incompatibility with the devices we use. Some others (like nano-diode enhancement) are simply way too expensive to be able to scale up right now.
