They're the prettiest coloured tulips I've ever seen.💗 Thank you for explaining their life cycle - a very clear picture. I've read of different coloured tulips turning out of the same bulb(?). Have you ever had that happen in your garden?

Thank you. I never had that happen, I don't quite get how that would happen genetically but I will look into it.

It did sound odd, genetically speaking, but this was a detail in a description about the era of Tulipomania, when people used to pay exorbitant amounts for rare varieties of Tulips. Apparently, buying bulbs was a kind of lottery, where a particular variety suddenly gave out a new kind of flower, which sometimes turned out to be rare. Sounds more like human error to me, but I did wonder if genetic modifications happened during breeding, in nature.
