I think reading the Bible is like the gym...when you go, you grow. Sometimes you don't want to do it (especially when you start or in different seasons when maybe you are being attacked more), but in the long run the more you commit and follow through the more you will grow and the more you will want to do it. If you find yourself not wanting to read the Bible...read it anyway. Don't let your "want" overpower what you should do. Hope that helps!

I think that’s pretty accurate. Lately though I have no desire to read it, I mean I want to WANT to read it, but everything else seems so much more interesting. Lots of struggles and painful things lately so I just want to escape from reality and when I read the Bible I’m faced with reality.

When I was a lad my parents forced me to read. I couldn’t go outside until I had read a certain amount. Over time, reading became habitual. Now I can read 1 John in about twelve minutes, comprehensively. I was gifted with a college reading level when I was about 5 and I’ve been honing it ever since. My point being, you may not be “passionate” about it right away, but if you make it habitual, it’ll come naturally. Don’t feel you need to carve out huge swaths of time either. If all you can accomplish is a single chapter of a single book, don’t feel guilty. In time you may find yourself wanting more, as the habit takes hold. Also, repetition is key. You won’t get much just going from front to back. Pick a book, I like 1 John, and read it everyday until you KNOW what is in that book. First few days you’ll feel okay, then you’ll be bored, then you’ll think you have, then, tis is the good part, you’ll realize you really know so little of it that you need to pay strict attention. After about a month you may start to feel hesitant moving on, because, if you’re like me, you’ll find the repetition of the verses calming and comforting. Don’t ignore audio bibles either, I like to play a few verses on the way to work. My comprehension is lower than with reading, but certain audio cues become tied to certain verses based on the narrators cadence and rhythm. Also, pray before you read. Confess your sin, get it off your chest so you feel right with God. Without the spiritual pollution weighing you down, you’re study will come easier and you’ll feel the words more closely. Pray also that you may have a clear understanding of scripture, as some of it, especially KJV, sounds foreign to modern ears. Repetition helps with this also. Remember, studying scripture is in itself an act of worship, as you are communing with God, trying in earnest to understand his will and desire. Earnest Biblical study is one of the best ways to develop spiritually, deepening your relationship with Him, and orienting yourself in accordance with Him. I was saved (born again) in 1974, l knew two verses, John 3:16 and, Jesus wept. I didn't know who Jesus wept for; now l do. I never went to a Church building, or read the Bible for ten years. In 1985 l hit rock bottom. The hate l had in my heart was overwhelming. I would think suicide the second, then beg God not to give up on me the next. The Holy Spirit began to work, God did not give up on me. I ask Him if He was real, would He take all the Hate out of my heart! He did!!! I made a vow to read His Word everyday. It's been 36 years, everyday. My life was so changed!!!

Lord God let us all grow in your word this year. Please give us a fierce desire for your word, and a strong need for being alone with you in prayer.

@@mitchellc4 2020 was a hard year man. To be alone with your own thoughts for so long... but God showed me a few things during lockdown. He showed me that humans are arrogant, haughty, ignorant, selfish, and just all around evil and wicked, even if saved. We need to constantly rely on God for our salvation and never give a oppurtiny for the flesh and the devil. We need to stay together as a family and help each other strife towards our goal of becoming like Christ. That is way God detests the one that causes disunity among its members.

Amen. For the past few months I've barely read my Bible or have been in prayer. I want to stay close to God. The problem is I'm so focused on where this world is going and all the political and world chaos. I cant shake the fear and concern off me, and I feel as if I've grown numb to my sin and my need for Jesus. Please pray for me as I do my best to rely on Him in these crazy times.

Happy New Year!

I will admit I have my ups and downs, but I try to hold a simple schedule. Whether I feel it or not, I try to read one chapter of the Old Testament, a Psalm, a chapter from Matthew-Acts and lastly a chapter from Romans-Revelation (In order) My Bible has four bookmarks so it’s great for that. I’m trying to read through the entire Bible. If you feel it a certain day, read more, if not, read at least a Psalm. But keep going through your Bible. We know God through his revealed word. Bathe in God’s word daily. God bless and I hope you all have a wonderful start to the New Year 😊

Well, I try to hold a schedule too. That can make a huge difference in bulding self-discipline, even when you don't feel like doing it, keep pushing yourself, you'll thank yourself later. @@caroline4801 Yeah I cant wait to complete it. I’ve read the New Testament through several times but the Old Testament has been a grind. However last year I decided to start going through the entire Bible and I have to say, I’m loving how I see Christ all over the Old Testament. And indeed, everyone should read the entire bible through. Paul said all of scripture is profitable. (All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17. that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.) 2 Timothy 3:16-17 Plus, having knowledge of God’s word keeps you protected from heresy and demonic influences and false teachers. If you know the word, you can compare it with any pastor/preacher and determine whether or not they’re teaching you the truth You as well, Caroline! Have a blessed New Year and stay safe!

I have, and let me say something that might help you, when it comes to these things there's only one solution, give up on trying to fix this problem yourself, because you can't free yourself from sin in your own strength, and put all your trust in Jesus, for like He cured the sick and revived the dead, so he is able to cure you from this in an instant, you just have to put all your trust in Him and give up on yourself, I would recommend you stay away from social midia and the internet as much as you're able, because that will lower greatly the strength of the temptation, may you find peace and grace in Jesus Christ, Amem!!

I prayed and asked God to give me a hunger for his word and to give me a command for his scriptures. And I prayed for great biblical wisdom. And I keep praying this til this day. God can GIVE you a hunger for his word if you just ask him. And let me tell you....I grew in knowledge by leaps and bounds. Lack of Bible knowledge and understanding made me shy away from witnessing. My confidence in witnessing to strangers and in defending my faith grew drastically. I witness more because My knowledge and understanding is solid. And you'll keep growing until you die. I read and study obsessively now. It's like I can't get enough❤❤❤🥱

By practicing it. Through experiencing what is in the Bible, your heart will grow towards God's.

@@mr.c2485 Had to Google. The One Year Bible is not the translation. It uses the NLT. You have an issue with all NLT Bibles? It has a few verses missing, so I've always stayed from it myself.

My testimony is that the Lord helped me to see that reading the Bible was crucial to my walk with Him, yet I sadly knew I did not desire to read His Word. I started praying over and over every day for the desire. Getting that desire I knew was crucial to me. I wanted to be passionate and love the Bible. He answered me so abundantly. The ways I have grown because of reading His Word is beyond what I could have imagined. His Light shines on my face and comes out of my heart.

I too pray to Jesus to enable begin this new year with a sustained discipline and spiritual energy for Daily fellowship & Bible reading📔🥳 happy NewYear 2021.

What changed the game for me with the Bible is taking my own notes on each section. Writing helps me to understand what God is trying to tell me in the passage.

I pray for the brave young person whose question wasn't answered in this video. An opportunity was missed to minister to someone facing doubt, someone courageous enough to reach out and ask about her challenges. John met her with his own enthusiasm, not where she was, but where he is. I'm proud of her for asking the question and I'm sure she's on the right path because she seeks answers, isn't complacent. May the Lord comfort her and encourage her.

I’ve personally found BibleProject’s content (podcasts and videos) helpful in stoking the embers of my passions into wonder filled fires.

Before quarantine I had a Pharisee-like spirit. God humbled me during the lockdown and has shown me my own heart. Now that I understand that season - I’m trying to get back on track. I’ve gotten so accustomed to not having fellowship with Christ, my flesh is very strong now 😞 thankful for this video!

There is no manipulation in that, but there certainly is a passion for Christ & a hunger for the salvation of the lost. Perhaps what you judge to be manipulation is really conviction, and your defense response is the fruit of this conviction. Only you can answer that after having an honest look within your heart.

I also think hearing other people who love reading through their Bibles talk about why they feel compelled to do so is very encouraging.

“If I neglect spending time with God in His word, my sight of Him becomes blurred, my savoring of Him becomes dull, and therefore my showing of Him, which is what I exist for, through my life is diminished or forced.” This part really struck my soul.

One thing that i do is read the bible every day, but i don't follow someone else plan, i just read it at my on free will and choice of what i will read that day. right now im reading through the whole bible but im not limited to a plan made by some one else so if it takes me 15 months or 7 months to finish at my own pass it is more genuine for me. also if today i need to read John ill go there or 1 John or ill read through what i feel i need at a particular day as well. ive not missed a day of bible reading in 13 years now since i became a christian. I just wanted to know the God who saved me. my struggle is to keep it from feeling like im just reading to read now like checking the box Praise all to God

As for me the desire to want to get into the word everyday has to be intensional and if done everyday it becomes a habit. Praying vigorously for this constant desire & intentionally carving out time to be in God’s presence will be a great start to this new year. I agree we must strive to read the Bible every day. Still can't understand how the first christians were to apply this in their daily life when there was no Bible like we know it today? There were not many having direct and easy access to old testament scriptures. There were not many people having access to gospels and epistles. Some of these were still to be written. Yet they were encouraged to abide in the Word. I can imagine they had regular meetings where they kept repeating and sharing the teachings of the apostles. I can imagine they had access to old testament scriptures as a group which they studied. They probably had copies of the epistles, but not many copies. Their meditation must have been on the words they have remembered then. This intrigues me as their experience was different from ours who have access to the whole Bible.

Paul told them to watch him as an example and the way to live. They might not have had the New Testament in the early church but at least they had a church that was real. The churches we have are all fakes now. We are in the falling away. Paul called our days "perilous times".

@@cezmal4940 Our problems in the church now are much much worse than in the early church. There aren't even any real Christians in the 501c3 churches now. Ok People understand this. There aren't any real Christians in the churches. Everyone that goes to a 501c3 church is possessed. They got demons they aren't Christians. I call them false Christians. The church may have had problems in Paul's day but at least some were real christians. Paul saw this falling away was going to happen and he tried to warn us.

Pastor, I struggle as well to keep passion for God and hope you can help me. I have had to hold fast that God is indeed a loving, forgiving and just God, but a brief conversation/debate at work 3 months ago has set me back. I so believe in the validity of the scriptures but couldn't defend or reconcile this co-worker's debated point leaving me not only frustrated but embarrassed in front of several fellow employee's listening at a separate lunch table as I couldn't find any words to respond. I had never heard anyone point this thought out before and it left me baffled on a response. Unfortunately, I've been personally bugged by it since, losing sleep and even my appetite, my heart for God seemly hardened. He simply stated, "you know, God is just saving you from himself. There's no real evil villain here, God created and designed everything, so it's his own own wrath from within his own ego he's claiming he's going to save you from." He went on to smugly to specify, "It's not like we're being invaded by aliens from another world or dimension and he's trying to offer rescue,, he's just actually trying to save us from his own angry". As i sat there speechless absorbing the thought he just planted in my head for a moment he got up to leave the lunch room asking me sarcastically as he passed me by to the door, "and he send s everyone to Hell that doesn't go along with it, so sweet!" I could only respond that he wasn't understanding the message correctly as he exited the room, the other employee's awkwardly remained quiet finishing their last few minutes of lunch, felt like an hour to me. On face value, I struggle thinking what he said was frighteningly true! Are we really just being saved by a god's own anger? What kind of Being would come up with complex and pain/death ridden game where the vast majority of participants would end up in ETERNAL torment and fire? Jesus is here to save us from himself? I am in shock and can't reconcile my thoughts, sorry for the long comment as I just had to vent my fearful thoughts and confusion that i may going thru at this time. Pastor, please do a video on my comments here if you may to help me and others that may run into this spiritual road block during our tribulations in our faith Thanks and God bless you all.

Jesus Christ, I need you every moment of my existence.

I remember being young and trying hard to study the Bible and not being able to become passionate about it. If you have a better understanding of the context etc it becomes so much easier and even exciting. Look for material from reliable sources to help put it into focus like "Unlocking the Bible" by David Pawson and u tube clips like the Bible project. Ask God to help you find correct teaching and always read it for you self to check if what you are being told is correct

Yes, I have difficulty in desiring the word. I felt I was saved about 2 weeks ago give or Thame a day or two. I had a porn and sexual fantasy (dreams) addiction. I got angry with myself and made the decision to stop even any wrong thoughts and for the first time, I thought in my heart that Jesus died for me and because I’d heard Billy Graham say “you have to receive Christ”, I said “I receive you” in the prayer in my bed. Next day, I felt I had faith however faint, it felt real and My urges and addiction is gone. My irritability is greatly diminished too and I am more loving to my wife. Also, I have forgiven all the people I had a root of bitterness against since I was 5 (I’m in my mid 60s now). It was eating me up and made me angry, ranting and swearing most of the time which is also away. I struggle to consistently read the word of God. I also have trouble concentrating when I read. I got CDs of Bible in a year, but they read too fast and each daily portion is far too long. I fear, after listening to this video, that my lack of enthusiasm for the word is evidence that I’m not really saved after all and that it is a counterfeit conversation. Perhaps I could read the daily CD bile readings but cut each bit short and take my time. Sorry for such a long post.

Personal notes: desire it so that you may grow up into salvation. That means that the evidence of your new birth will be shown by your ongoing feeding on the word of God.

Would you say that there is a difference between physically reading the Bible and listening to an audio version of Scripture? I do the latter more than I read, I usually justified this by thinking back to how Scripture was read out aloud to an audience in the synagogues i believe.

I think there are benefits to both. However, be careful: TONE is important and depending on the tone (and placed-emphasis) in which any particular passage is read, the meaning can change dramatically. I too listen to a lot of the Bible (I use Scourby's reading of the old King James) not because I'm KJV only but because I find his tone in the _narrative, historical_ parts of scripture to ring true. For example listen to his reading of Matthew 23 compared to the overly-jovial reading of the dramatized ESV of the same chapter. That said, nothing replaces READING. Romans says faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. But then, Jesus says: "He that READETH, let him understand" (Matt 24) and "It is written" (Matt 4)

I'm sorry, but where does it say anything about the word first being dull and later being delectable? I like the explanation and correlation between the two books of Peter and James though. I just bought a bible reading plan a couple of days ago and I'm definitely going to try to read every day.

I would just say to people who have a hard time following a bible plan, try making your own. for me it works to read the bible on my own daily. but i don't follow a plan by someone else its just how it works for me im not one to follow plans well and keep up with them it not my personality however to chose to read the bible my self works just fine. id rather miss a meal then miss the bible id even rather miss a shower then miss the bible, but i read at my own my only plan is to just read it and its work well

You get saved that's how. When you're born again, the Spirit changes your desires.

The bible says that prejudice is a sin you know The only reason i can think of why you said that we should repent is because we are not Christians "like you". The church believed the diety of Christ since it's beginning. John 17 shows Jesus praying that those that believe should be protected from the evil one. So do you think that Christians all through history have been decieved by the devil to believe that Jesus is God and thus not real Christians? Well then we have a problem. Then most of the church are going straight to hell and the very prayer of the Son of God has not been answered. Is that even possible?

I think what he's saying is that -- it should become a habit of us to read the Bible, have a desire (meaning actively) to become passionate about it. It takes practice before we experience this because just like what he said, we may have ups and downs in our Bible reading. Change of perspective when reading GOD's Word. To become passionate we have to set our mind and it requires active participation. Hopefully this does make sense. (forgive my English as well, can't explain it well :) ).

I had difficulty when I got to Psalms. I actually read the Psalms backwards (last to the first) and that helped a ton. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Just start. Try to read some each day, even if it's just a few minutes, each day. Ask what his the point the author is making? And how does this apply to me?

I have a question if I skip a day not because that I don’t won’t to but because I don’t feel good like yesterday I had a pretty bad headache and a stomachache would GOD understand or would he want me to do it that day because I don’t feel good and need his help? Now this is absolutely no excuse but I know me and when I have a bad headache it’s hard for me to retain information. I know you might see this as a dumb question and I know none of us can speak for GOD but I do value your guys opinion. God bless you and your families.

God is gracious and merciful, we learn this about His character in the Bible and through our life experiences. When you had a bad thought did God strike you down😅, no, this shows He is merciful and patient and He sent His Son to die for the sins of the world bc He so loved us. I first need to know why you read the Bible. If it’s just to cross it off my to-do list. Don’t even bother. I treat it as if you haven’t had no physical food for 24 hours. The way you stomach behaves and will continue to until it gets what it so passionately desires. I try allow it to be that of my Spirit. Just to say the least..

The Scriptures never say to "read them daily". Daily reading plans don't work. They have the appearance of wisdom, and of self-made religion and self-abasment... You shouldn't have a warning bell go off in your soul if you missed a day, and you certainly shouldn't doubt your salvation if you don't read the Bible daily. Certainly you would have some sort of interest in who God and who Christ are. And certainly the Bible is the best place to find out more and more and more. There is no association between Bible reading and regeneration. Consider the apostles, who had no bible. No, it is knowing Christ, that we should be concerned with. Moreover, Bible reading and regeneration are not about getting to heaven, and are not about giving you the wisdom needed for heaven. Reading the whole Bible is important!! but reading the whole Bible every year is not. Read the Scriptures to know them, and know the Scriptures so that you would live by them and know Him better. Most people simple don't know the Scriptures, because of this they don't desire them. Imagine, you in love with your significant other and yet never read their Facebook, or instagram, or some life blog they wrote. It would seem odd, wouldn't it. But it wouldn't be necessary to do either. Jesus rebukes the pharisees, for the failed to understand the proper role of the Scriptures. "You search the Scriptures because you think that by them you have eternal life; it is those Scriptures that testify about ME" (John 5:39) Life is found in Christ, not in the Bible. Now, The Scriptures are God breathed and "useful" for correcting, teaching, rebuking, and training in righteousness." (2nd Tim 3:16) but they aren't mandated. My advice is to learn more about Jesus, ponder who he truly is to you. And seek him out in all manners. And you will find a wonder and interest in the Scriptures.

With this being said, don’t neglect daily reading and prayer. It is the only mean by which we develop intimacy with Christ.

And there is 100% an association with bible reading and regeneration. 1 Peter 1:23, “ since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God;” I don’t send these comments to try to act superior in knowledge, but I know that the Word of God and prayer are the means in which intimacy is wrought about in our lives as children of God.

I love Gods Word, but just reading it is problematic for me. I find myself trying to just read it, but quickly find it turns into an inductive Bible study. It then becomes a long drawn out process. How do I curtail this?

I feel so lost like God has given .e over I've done terrible sins even though I new him I don't no why but my head won't switch off I keep.thinking of sin and the sins I've done I now gods word but its like freedom is for everyone not me since I was a child going to church with my family I new he was God and he died to save us from.sin but its like every thing I touch turns to dust I had nothing when I was younger God blessed me with a wife a home children but I abused my wife got on drugs a few year back the Lord blessed me to draw me back but always I had a voice in the back of my mind telling me it wasn't for me im evil a hypocrite and after being clean for 3 years one Christmas I don't no what come over me I slipped took drugs and sinned I proceeded to try to stand on scripture you no if we confess our sins he is faithful but I felt such a hypocrite it ate into me I stopped church talking to other believers can't go witnessing because I can't forgive myself I still read my word I find it hard to pray although I don't sleep very well somenights I talk to God while I'm there tossing I don't even no why I'm writing this im so lost spiritualy I feel like a bad seed a liar hypocrite and im.enslaved to sin.its making me ill

Davey smith, we all fall back into sin sometimes and God is our shepherd to heard any stragglers right back to the flock. By God’s mercy you are feeling the convictions of your sins , which means you haven’t strayed too far! That feeling of guilt and remorse just means the Holy Spirit still dwell inside you! And that feeling of worthlessness and despair is from the devil. He loves throwing our sin in our face he wants you to feel unworthy and all those horrible things. Because he wants us to separate ourselves from God, he wants us to stop praying, not forgive ourselves, and stop witnessing! When you fall back into sin and feel lost and alone you need to cling to God harder than ever. That goes against our instinct, our instinct is to draw away from him, but that’s when you need to Run to him! I hope this will help a little I pray God leads you in the right direction and I will be praying for you God bless!

I’m sure I’m interpreting this wrong, but to me this sounds like it is saying you have to read the bible in order to earn your salvation. But the bible is clear that we cannot earn our salvation we receive it as a gift through grace

Why do we need to become passionate about the Bible? If you are truly elect and saved, you should have no problem having the hunger for gods word. If you are not passionate about god, can you truly say, you are among the elect?

You must come as little children….1. Ask Holy Spirit for Enlightenment and Guidance in your search for truth and in your desire to please The Most High Creator. 2. Lay aside everything you were told ( opinions of others). Ask the creator to establish a personal relationship knowing that he is your Father. Ask that you be allowed to know the words conveyed by our Lord and Savior Christ, as well as the prophets as you have the desire to please him. 3. Repent of past and present sins. Those you know of and those you are unaware of as they cause a chasm. 4. Let absolutely nothing superseded your love and willingness to please him. 5. Know of A surety that you are loved by the father in ways that you cannot understand or believe you deserve. Follow Jesus example of getting Baptized ( fully emerged ), in the water. Do it in the name of our father in the name of the son and in the name of the Holy Spirit. Many ask “ What would Jesus Do”?, but when they find out they do the opposite. Find out, through reading, what he did, what he didn’t do and if you love him do as he did. He was not a Christian. These are but a few but wonderful steps to your finding the many treasures that are inside The Scriptures. You won’t be able to put it down. Food for the Soul!

We all have sinned and fell short of the glory to God. The problem is, that God is holy and doesn’t live with sin. So we all deserve to go to hell, but Jesus paid the price so you don’t have to. All you have to do is confess Jesus as your savior and repent (turn from all sin) and you’ll bs forgiven and on the way to heaven.

Jesus loves you and died so you can have eternal life. Repent and turn to Him because He is coming soon! He loves you!
