Oof, this message was for me. Even though I got rid of all my social media accounts 2+ years ago when I received the conviction from the Holy Spirit, I still struggle with scrolling through YT & watching videos in the morning & at night 😭 It's mostly out of boredom. Distraction is a timeless tactic of the enemy. Whether it's being on my phone or being filled with food (gluttony), I am guilty of getting easily distracted and doing other things before spending time with the Lord in prayer & in His Word! This was such a good, timely reminder. Jesus is our daily bread. We need Him every single day, every single moment. Apart from Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5). May we put God first in our thoughts, words, and actions. Thank you Pastor John! God bless you ❤

Same. I just taught sunday school at our church on Philippians 3:1-11. Great text to linger on the "surpassing worth of knowing Christ". He is far greater than any momentary pleasure we might gain from a quick hit from the phone. But what a great helper we have in the spirit. Take courage and persevere in knowing Christ!

@@michellesanchez9 Yes, I'm right there with you sister. Although I try my best to only watch Christian content, bible studies, sermons, etc; the enemy still finds a way for me to end up watching worldly influencers, dating shows, useless gossip/ news, etc on YT 🥺 It's so important for us to protect our ear & eye gates; & to guard our hearts! ❤

Key points that spoke to me: 1. Psalm 5:3 ““In the morning, O Lord, You will hear my voice; In the morning I will prepare [a prayer and a sacrifice] for You and watch and wait [for You to speak to my heart].” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭5‬:‭3‬ ‭AMP‬ Let the first thing out of your mouth in the morning be a cry to God. 2. Prepare a sacrifice and watch. The sacrifice - of my body and my attention - devoted to the Lord.

That's a sacrifice? Hah! Wow we sure are feeble humans hahahahaha. Wow times have definitely gotten harder in a sense yet also more comfortable yet more uncomfortable when we get out of our comfort the way I can articulate these realitys are terrifically terrifying! And thanks to God such that I do. Amen

I was using social media as a coping mechanism for the extreme stress I was in. Seeing other peoples photos of happy moments and things that reminded me of happier times helped me ignore the chaos in my life. Unfortunately I couldn't see I was setting my eyes on the world and not the Father by doing this.

Does anybody else feel that the habit (addiction?) of grabbing our phones first thing doesn't just hurt our relationship with our Lord (idolatry?), but our marital relationship too (adultery?) Has anybody else noticed that concentrating on a shimmering screen first thing rather than looking into our loved ones eyes and devoting our full attention to them and God's beautiful Creation for the first hour puts our brains in a fog and switches off our short-term memory? (Enemy blinding our eyes and deceiving us?)

Yup the habit of snatching my phone inside the hidden part of the bed because my body couldn't hold on to stupid videos no longer and I decided to sleep resting my brain finally! God allows us to do dumb stuff so we feel the pain and learn from it. I realize how malevolent and much much less caring we would become if we didn't receive consequences for not brushing our teeth for example and not eating. I've gotta be more generous with my siblings admittedly and family. I hate being a gluttonous fatty! I'm not obese but I am over weight. I most certainly will pray I can't fail God now! And my loved family!

Morning is my favorite time with God but my delight in Him didn’t come until I started practicing to ABIDE in Him and His Word. The more time I spend with Him in His word the more I enjoy Him but it takes intentionality bc something else will always try to take first place.

I feel like the Lord wanted me to see this video. I'm addicted to social media. Every morning, when i wake up, i immediately grab my phone and scroll through social media or checking every minute to see if a friend wrote back to me or watching KZread videos instead of spending time with God first. i get easily distracted by my phone. This has certainly waken me up and this video made me realize that i need to start my day and end my day with God first. Thank you Lord for this video.

I'm 16 and I've had a serve phone addict, like 10hrs+ a day, and decided to delete social media, I final feel like I'm living in the real world and when I wake up I don't have temptations from social media since my apps are gone, although I have a habit of online shopping, my screen time went from 14-10 hours daily to 2-4 and a good chunk of it is for biblical related things, Social media really has horrid effects on this generation if not used with caution, and I notice I become more judgmental/hateful person when scrolling through socials. 4:55 was a big issue for me I was always on social media to get attention from ppl, with large ego comes a low self-esteem, realizing that I thought I needed "self-love' to fill my low self-esteem right? WRONG very wrong, I needed the exact opposite, striving for humility! like what C.S Lewis said Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less,” When I refocus my attention off myself and to God, my anxieties, worries, low self-esteem, attention seeking, ego trips drifted away realizing I'm not the center of the universe and nobody really cares what I'm posting on socials. 🤷‍♀

This really ministered to me. I struggle with chronic health problems, and it's incredibly easy to turn to entertainment/distraction to ease the pain, I frequently turn to my phone first before spending time with the Lord. The Spirit is convicting me, I definitely need to return to putting the Lord first in my day.

The Bible is like a 100$ Bill, even the greatest sermons and books are but Nickels in comparison to it. The word of God and communion with God should be more important to us than our food. I usually start by reading psalms to God and praying over them. God’s beautiful attributes and works are so often clearly delineated there, as well as his willingness to save and pardon. It would be hard not be stirred up before long and nose dive into a sensible, affectionate, outpouring of the soul to him. As Paul Washer said, “you pray until you can pray.” Grab hold of the word and wrestle with God until he comes down and communes with you. God bless.

As a person who spent decades eating chocolate (or ice cream, etc.) for breakfast, I can honestly say that I have a whole screen of Christian apps that make it more likely for me to spend time with God first thing in the morning. I keep my phone on that screen when I go to bed so I can see it as soon as I wake up. But I don't relate at all to those 6 reasons (candy or the other). The only thing I look at on my phone is to check for messages from my family or take care of (get rid of) new emails. I don't have a phone that can do Twitter or Facebook or any other social media because it doesn't have enough memory. I do that stuff on my computer later in the day after I'm already up. But I spend most of my time watching/listening to sermons and Biblical teachings, and I am blessed to be able to do so and the desire to do so.

Amazing video thank you Pastor John. I began watching thinking, 'is it really so bad to scroll on the phone?' but hearing your explanation of our need for strength to do what God calls us to makes so much sense. I am often dragged down after spending time on social media, laughing at worldly jokes and becoming more like the world, even seeing 'candy' Christian content which might have questionable theology. Receiving God's strength and meditating on His love is a much better way!

You may disagree but I prefer my method. I don't absorb the Word very well when I wake up. I prefer to be wide awake, and read after prayer.

Hebrews 6 16 People swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument. 17 Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. 18 God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. 19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, 20 where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.

Psalm 119 My 96 year old friend, Nathan Pressman, related his morning routine to me several times. He'd say: 'I raise my hands toward the heavens and say, 'Thank You Abba for yet another day. You are merciful' 'I give thanks to You, Oh Yah Your goodness endures forever' Then he recited, the Sh'ma. He loved the Messiah, Yeshua (Jesus) . He has been gone for a few years but awaiting a resurrection from the dead❤

Hebrews 7:23-28 "23 Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from co tinuing in office; 24 but because Jesus( :) 1st love in Christ) live forever, he has a permanent priesthood. 25 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him( Jesus), because he always lives to intercede for them. 26 Such a high priest meet our need- one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. 27 Unlike the other priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins , and then for the sins of the people. He ( Jesus) sacrificed for their sin once for all when he offered himself. 28 For the law appoints as high priests men who are weak; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son( Jesus :) 1st love in Christ), who has made perfect forever. "( Hebrews 7:23-28 ) in Jesus'name, i pray( Hebrews 13:8) Amen.

My testimony. To uplift and encourage you. One day, out of the blue, I understood completely how much God loves and cherishes me as I am. So I invited him to fill my heart with His Love and Heavenly Peace overflowing. I felt his love surround me like a warm comforting blanket. I no longer worry about what anyone thinks of me. Whether they like me or not. Care about me or not. Knowing Jesus loves me by dying on the cross to save me from hell is more than enough for me! LET THE PEACE OF CHRIST RULE IN YOUR HEARTS, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful (humbled and his disciples of peace). Colossians 3:15 NIV THIS IS HOW PEOPLE WILL BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY AUTHENTIC CHRISTIANS! AUTHENTIC CHRISTENS CAN SEE THE DEVIL MASQUERADING AS AN ANGEL OF LIGHT WHEN THEY HAVE JESUS IN THEIR HEART. HIS PEACE REIGNS SUPREME. THEY FOLLOW HIS TEACHINGS OBEDIENTLY. FALSE TEACHERS DO NOT AND MIX WORLDLY TEACHINGS WITH GODLY ONES. My heart is filled with so much of his heavenly peace that it overflows with heavenly love. I feel so loved and cherished. NO ONE AND NOTHING CAN EVER HURT ME AGAIN! Now, I am at peace with everything and everyone in my life. I can even forgive and bless my enemies! If you haven't already, I encourage you to invite him! He is knocking at the door of your heart waiting for you to open it so he can embrace you with Heavenly Love! JESUS SAID keep your mind on him and he will keep you in perfect heavenly peace. I am now centered, grounded and balanced in Heavenly Peace. NO ONE AND NOTHING WILL HARM YOU WHEN JESUS IS IN YOUR HEART. Let Jesus reign supreme in your heart, mind and soul for miracles to unfold in your life. Well I did get up this Morning and start scrolling. And thanks to that I found this video on yt. So not all bad But I do agree with this whole videos message . I do need to read the Bible in the morning Sure I have a app that puts a bible verse on my phone in the the notification bar. That I read every morning. But maybe it's not enough. And I'm trying a bible lock screen app ATM . And trying to find uplifting yt videos and fb pages... But I guess I need to pray and read alittle bit more than a verse in the Morning.. Christian music too? Idk, I'm not a morning person. .I takes me a while to wake up mentally. Added- I do scroll In the morning. And every morning there is a new video from you guys. And I listen to it most times. .

I can identify with that. Satan will use this to tempt us into discouragement, doubts, loss of focus on God, neglecting our devotions. But know that God is always there for you, regardless of how you feel and what you're going through. And know that God will bring you through this season into a better place. The best thing we can do is wait on God. Refuse to give up hope; be expectant and patient; be persistent in prayer and reading the Bible. This can be hard to do, but just do what you can. God is patient with all our weaknesses, so that nothing can separate us from his love. Focus on God, not on your weaknesses (“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness", 1 Corinthians 12:9). The Bible (and other good spiritual resources) are full of the beauty of God, and so eventually the light will dawn again - perhaps even brighter than ever before. It may take days or months, but God knows what he's doing when he's training us. His purposes can never fail.

But I tend to check a few things on my phone, like watching a video or two, mainly because I find that it helps stimulate my brain to wake up quicker. I use it as a tool to get going a little faster than if I were to organically wake up with no resources.

This makes so much sense! I was thinking 2023 people check their social media first thing?! Who uses social media any more! Maybe you check a couple of news websites? Or some WhatsApp groups? But it's not really the same. Even Facebook is mainly just a fees of articles from news websites now. Barely know anyone who posts actual things on it!

If you can find one and it will help, do it. Jesus tells us to do the extremes in order not to sin.(matt.5:30, 18:8, mark 9:3, etc)

Jesus sets the best example of this: "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed." - Mark 1:35. Jesus woke up before dawn after spending all of His energy the previous day healing, teaching, and serving just so He could spend time in prayer with God in private. He prioritized God's guidance and the strength He received from His Spirit rather than the strength He would receive from sleep.

Reading the Bible and praying for the majority of the day sounds boring to me. I don't think even pastors spend the majority of their time reading and praying. We can all say that we yearn to be more in the Word and be filled with more of the Spirit, but let's be honest with ourselves, do we really or are we just saying that to save face?
