‘How did I end up DOING THIS?!’ - DAVE NEAL

Спорт

You listen to him help our brilliant guests tell their stories every week, but who is he? What's his history? I'm Jen, Off Track PA, and I asked our Off Track FB followers if they'd like Dave to tell his story, the story of how he came to host one of, if not THE, fastest-growing motorcycle racing podcasts in the UK as well as his background in the sport he loves so much... Well, the answer was a resounding 'YES', so here it is and I hope you enjoy it!

I remember Dave when he was at Paddock Chatter as I was starting out a small business in BSB. What a legend of a guy, so helpful and friendly. Dave even had the time to lend an ear and listen to the problems I was having with the business and someone I consider to be a genuine, true friend. Hope to meet up with you at the TT this year, buddy. 😉

A great, long awaited chat and Q&A session with the PodFather himself. Excellent work Jen and great getting the questions covered but without just reading them one by one, top work. Knew most of the story and answers but some were enlightening and glad to hear a few names and events from the past that I recall from a fan, listener, reader and now good mate's point of view. Still remember first seeing you in 125 paddock as I'd taken my son, who's called Jordan, to Brands so we supported Jordan Weaving simply via the same first name so walking around the paddock found his team tent (with you in it). Then hearing you on MotoPod for all those years and first meeting you in the pitman of a cold windy Donington when Jordan was doing his first test with Russo Racing and you'd said on MotoPod to find you and get your free stickers....Everyone loves a sticker, eh mate...!!! And many years later at the NEC Show last year we did it again with you dishing out the stickers... but this time stickers of your OWN podcast brand. Super proud of all you've done and glad to be a little tiny supporter and part of the journey. Long may it continue pal.... Definitely need a follow up at the end of the season.

I did wonder about your backstory Dave so that was really interesting. Really respect your belief in setting up Off Track when, as you said yourself, CTR was already up and running as an established and popular pod. I admire your vision to see something you could add to what was already available, not to mention actually going ahead and doing it. It will be interesting to see where you take it going forward but please don't stop doing some interviews with the riders from the past as I've really enjoyed those and for me that's an area you've absolutely nailed. Good luck with it and thanks for the content.

We’ll be back with Boz again but after a chat tonight we’ll have someone else alongside him (not that he knows yet 😂)

Me and our Jo had the pleasure of meeting you at the Carol Nash or the other major insurance company (my memory isn’t the best these days) event 2012 Oulton Park. Good old twitter seen us invited, which later brought the opportunity for our Jo to go pillion with JT. Twitter definitely isn’t what it was, that’s a fact. There are still good people on there but not the same conversations anymore - when we were all on there it was like us all in a really big room wandering around chatting, now it’s more like a thousand people in a phone box all with an opinion on something. Life’s changed for us all in that time, the kids are grown up, life events happen but we’re still here happy in our own little worlds and I love that 😁 Thanks for your message Debs, it’s really made my day 😊

Well worth doing, Dave. (and Jen, you have a future in podcasting). Any thoughts of revisiting OMG, as their progress has been meteoric since the last one.

Great episode. I’d like to hear more of the upcomers, the likes of Owen Jenner seem to come across with a bit of personality

Take it from me, he’s a pillock… only kidding, OJ is a good lad, one with a personality too. We’ll catch up with him through the season as we do a support class round up 🙂

I haven’t seen him since we crossed paths at MotoGP a few years ago but I believe he’s still at Morton’s Publishers out at Horncastle - might be wrong because he doesn’t really appear on social media anywhere but that was the last I remember.

As part of the Supoort Class round ups then yeah definitely. I was disappointed with the response to the FHO girls chat we did last season so a full episode won’t be happening this year but there’ll definitely be coverage 🙂

Absolutely brilliant podcast, really interesting to hear your story. I was very nearly late for an interview because I lost track of time listening!! If I could make a suggestion for future podcast guests Richard Cooper, Bruce Anstey & Gaz Johnson. To hear you chat to these guys would be awesome.

Thanks so much, that really means a lot and apologies for almost making you late! It’s a personal show, not one I’m comfortable with so your kind words mean more for this one 🙂 We’re in touch with Coopes and hopefully we can do something over on the North Coast next week but if not we’ll just head to his home after Donington. As for Bruce, a mutual friend messaged him yesterday 😁 Gaz is a great lad but he’s not keen to do a show because he’s ’not a talker’, I did a chat show in Jan with him, Granty, Reg and Rog and he felt out his depth (he absolutely wasn’t, I might add 😁)
