I spent many hours riding in the cab of a war surplus Studebaker dump truck. My best friend's (in the third and fourth grades in the early 50s) father drove trucks for a local rock crusher. Climbing over the Columbia river on the Longview bridge with a full load of gravel was a 10-15mph process in low gear and full throttle. Great fun riding along in a great truck!

Fun fact. Studebaker lost out on the contract to GMC to suppy the U.S Army with 2 1/2 ton six wheel trucks. Studebaker were in trouble until the US started the lend lease program to the USSR and gave that contract to Studebaker

Alan Mountain, I didn't know that Studebaker was in financial trouble at that time! War really greases the skids -- props up companies that are having temporary problems! Thanks for watching and your comment!

Even more extremely lucky for the Russians. A company was there with the resources to build the required numbers of trucks with the required capabilities.

Apparently I'm the first commenter 21 hours after the posting but anyways okay 🙄. I enjoy your posts or at least some of them and I liked the way you added some humor at the end of this. I don't know why you only have 84 views with mine being the 85th but keep trying to grow 👍👍

Doug, yes, it is a mystery to me too why certain videos have tons of views and almost no or sparse comments. It seems that a video doesn't get a lot of comments at first and then once it gets going, the comments flow after that. Also, comments beget comments. As people read them, they like to reply with their two cents, which is great! Yes, this channel is slowly growing. I've put in way more effort than is obvious! Thanks for contributing!

@@EmersusTech oh I understand the effort that you put in. My own channel has all of 16 subscribers and at least a few of them are trolls but I control those. I do it for the enjoyment of it and to try to educate others from my 60 plus years of experience. I guess people just don't understand why I say I don't want to be monetized unless I can have that money go directly to a charity of my choice. Anyways it's something to do now and then like right now when it's pushing 100 degrees outside. Stay well my friend 🤩👍

Have we thanked them? 300,000 US soldiers died in WWII. They could lose that in one battle. 8.6m soviet soldiers gave their lives 20m civilians died. They paid in blood. We paid in trucks. I think we got the better deal.

If the russians say it is a good truck then it is a good truck. Russia was in total defense mode and made tanks gunz and ammo and also trucks but the ratio was towards defense. Sometimes it showed cause their arty in certain positions did not have enough ammo for longer duration firing. If these trucks been there already then then the situation be better. This american truck was driven from persia carrying cargo and then stayed in russia. All retreating armies tear up railway tracks. Both russia and germany relied heavily on railroads for the most important stuff. So as is said these trucks helped when railway gangs had not yet repaired the railway, and keep the offensive going. Without these american trucks it ...... lets say more hard work would be needed and walking and so on.

MajSolo, yes, from what I gather, the Russians/Soviets were very rough on their equipment, so if "We say good -- it good!" (Just imagining a Russian saying that). Thanks for watching this video -- which is way underviewed in my opinion. I guess people just don't like trucks! Thanks!

@@EmersusTech they just want the sexy stuff.... bomber aircraft whatever ... a teenager who is interested and starting to gather information about the military is interested in how far this or that missile can go, how much it can penetetrate blah blah blah .... then you learn that U.S.A takes logistics extremely serious and that is why they can fight wars on shores of another continent. In WWII some historians say USA had 10 men supporting for each fighting men. USA always thought that without logistics our brave soldiers are doomed. Yes young kids interested in military focus on .... ooh .... lets say this helicopter is better then that helicopter or .... simply whatever. When you get older it is geography, terrian, fortifications, air superiority , there is hell of a lot more to think about. You say people do not like trucks ... well .... it is if they a 15 years old or 60 years old and actually been in wars or even in a simulation of wars where professionals try figure out how to RUN a war. All people who on the side ,,,, are interested in military they are all in different phases of knowledege gathering. If they will mature, they will find your video ..... some day. I allready seen a doc about this and I got tired of ukraine war and wanted to see some positive video when we all worked against evil. So I already know this but still I put in my search "trucks for russia WWII" and what happened is I watched A LOT of truck videos hahahahaaha several hours. I learned that USA made an increbile amount of various trucks for WWII heheheehhehehe geez A LOT hahahahahaah various models. Geez .... they say USA was strong industrially but really ..... geeez ...... more then I knew. The japanese knew. I do not know if hitler kew. who knew USA coould produce so much in WWII and ontop of that the atomic bomb that was very expensive. How can a single country do that?

Ron, I know that Studebaker was not part of GM, but an independent company. I'm not sure where you got that from. When I mentioned REO, I was mentioning that they also manufactured the trucks -- competition in WWII was pushed to the side -- unless you counted competition to see how much and fast you could manufacture something.
