How the U.S. saved the Red Army in World War II

How the U.S. saved the Red Army in World War II - We all know abstractly, that World War II was one of the most destructive conflicts in human history. It began when Nazi Germany unleashed ferocious attacks across Europe, but it spread to the Soviet Union, China, Japan and the United States. The war dragged on for six bloody years until the Allies defeated Nazi Germany and Japan in 1945, but some of the war’s most savage fighting occurred on the Eastern Front. The fighting on the Eastern Front was terrible and incessant, brutal beyond belief. The two principal belligerent powers were Germany and the Soviet Union, along with their respective allies. Both sides fought with demonic fury the Germans to crush the hated Slavs, and the Soviets to defend the sacred soil of Mother Russia. Though never engaged in military action in the Eastern Front, the United States and the United Kingdom (allies) both provided substantial material aid in the form of the Lend-Lease to the Soviet Union. All large quantities of various military equipment that supplied to the USSR by the Western Allies, such as : motor vehicles and fighter planes and most of all helped the Soviets survive while the most difficult periods of the war with Germany.

@Brian Home account america only gave a few thousand tanks, (the American Sherman tank was also extremely dangerous for the crew beacuse of bad armour and it caught easily on fire beacuse of its gas engine, and also had a smaller cal Canon and was slower in speed) while russia produced over 35,000 tanks so the American tanks were less than 1% of the tanks russia used. And after the war, even in the 1970s, russia still didn't return all the trucks america gave, then they decided to return scrap metal instead, beacuse its much easier to ship scrap metal across the ocean than full sized trucks, and those trucks would have been scraped either way, so they did return. American aircraft numbers was less than 1/4 of russias planes. And even though russia did take alot of territory after the war, if they didn't stop hitler, the whole world would be speaking german. Just think about it, the biggest battle america fought in was in d day, and it only included about 75,000 American troops, and by the time of d day, many german soilders were running away from the east were they were fighting the soviet union to surrender to American, British, and Canadian soldiers, beacuse they knew they the war is over for them, they will either be killed or captured, and they knew they would be treated better if they were captured by British or Americans. Also remind me, who conquered Berlin (Germanys capital) was it america or great Britain, no, it was russia. I don't remember the exact number, the soviet union conquered Berlin either 2 weeks or 2 months before the rest of the allies got to Berlin. Also I can name you many examples were a fairly small group of soviet soilders were standing of much bigger german attacks for long periods of time, where they would be constantly attacked for many months, in some places for over a year. Winston Churchville en said that the future generations will understand how much they owe the red army. If only he knew how wrong he was. Also in 1945 there was a poll in Europe on who the people think defeated Germany, almost 60% said russia and only 20% said america. Than in 1994 the poll was done again and 50% said america defeated Germany and only 25% said russia. And in 2004 the poll was done again and almost 60% said america defeated Germany and only 20% said it was russia. This just proves how america rewrites history, and America's brain washing making people believe america defeated germany

@ClickNSpam one is American (far right) and goes to other countries in order to judge who is right or wrong, overthrowing democratic and other governments in spite of the wish of the people, killing many. Point is that your 100 million is an estimate which is beyond the amount of inhabitants at that time and has nothing to do with second world war (as does my statement about the US). Demonisation of the Soviet Union serves nothing unless one assesses ones own country first and tries to objectively look at the USSR.

Harry Truman was not Vice President at the time this was said in 1941. Truman was just a United States Senator from Kansas when he made this statement. He would not become Vice President for another three and a half years in January, 1945. More importantly this was never U.S. policy. The United States never supplied Germany with weapons to attack the Soviet Union. Yes he made this comment but since this never happened I do not understand what point you are trying to make.

Both are right and wrong in all aspects. It is difficult to prove that a soldier (in this case Waffen SS officers) did something wrong out of their own beliefs or because it had been an order. The Soviets did not just kill Berlin citizens because they wanted to. A major part of the Berlin population was involved in the Volkssturm, both adults and teenagers if the HJ. These citizens therefore were soldiers and coming from all angles, which made it difficult to determine who was a soldier and who was not, resulting in way more deaths than ought have been necessary

Thanks such a forgotten topic. In my opinion your analysis understates contribution from the Western Democracies to the USSR and its Communist Forces in WW2. Never forget that the USSR invaded Poland in an agreed pact with Hitler! And after Barbarossa, we realized that we had to keep the Commies in the game so to speak! This was a major objective of the Battle of the Atlantic. The numbers I had are somewhat similar. But the Troop truck contribution was far greater adding Ford and GM Trucks, The Total US/Brit/Canadian Total was 550,000 Troops Trucks. Also the Brits supplied Tanks as well, not very good ones but a tank was better than no tank. Yes the Hurricane, and yes it was a success! The Spitfire wasn't a success as it was too much of a thoroughbred. Plus the USA and Britain gave over 1,000,000 field telephones, otherwise the Commies would have had to using flying pigeons! And Canada, USA, New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa gave the Commies enough food to keep them going! And now is the time that we support Ukraine against the new NAZTI on the block Putin and his evil ideology PutiniZm. Anyway the Strategy worked for us Westerners, as when D Day happened the Germans had 196 Divisions Facing the Commies and 35 Divisions for France and Italy!

The USSR took 3,000 Hurricanes - as they were the preferred fighter for escorting bombers. Their slow speed meant that the pilots could not wander off and chase German planes, they had to stick with the bomber. The German army and all available resources were on the Russian front. Stalin kept calling on his allies to open a second front, to lighten the weight of the massive German offensive that has weighed on the USSR since 1941. But the Anglo-Americans moved slowly: it was not until the end of 1942 that they decided to land in Tunisia, far from the Russian front. They will take more than six months to go to Sicily and then almost 18 months to travel to Italy, while the Royal Italian Army has ceased to exist since September 1943 ,The Anglo-Americans will advance at the speed of the snail, causing the justified exasperation of the Soviets and the irony of German propaganda.

My great grandpa was veteran of WW2 from soviet union, he used to tell the stories to my grandpa and grandpa told me. My great grandpa battled in alot of places. He battled in Crimea specifically in Kerch at the begining of the war, though to be a hellish place. He battled in stalingrad and all the way to berlin later. He told that those american supplied were mostly usefull in terms of food etc stuff that you use to maintain personal health etc. Tanks etc were near useless as they broke down and no materials were avaiable to fix them aswell as nobody really knew how to fix them. Most of them did ansolutely nothing. I think people drastically overestimate this "us supplied" On bigger scale this supplies are most unnoticeable. Us propaganda is just awful and they have dumbest people to believe it. Most of their people dont even know what soviet union was or geogrophical changed during ww2. Most of them are just cleuless in terms of history etc. My great grandpa told that turning point of the war was mainly the spirit of the army and the forrocisness of the individuals fighting as the germans got closer and closer the stakes became higher. They knew the atrocities that germans do with the captured peoples and civilians. So they worried alot about their families and their lives and therefore fought with absolute savagery that broke wehrmacht. The army was bitter, angry and very revenge driven due to nazi crimes etc hence why they fought with such agression. But he used to say that after soviets started advancing it was starting to be noticeable that soviet army was more and more well equiped and technical superiority of germans no longer was a gamechanger. But he always said that the war could not have been won without the courageous fighting of the army. Soviet union won with sheer force of will and movilization of massive number of militar equipment after 41-42

The issue is that most of the Soviet combat footage (and American and German and British footage) was highly propagandistic and done usually to advertise THEIR countries vehicles, or equipment, or men. The soviets were no different, sometimes being more egregious. (especially after ww2 during the cold war) the Soviets really didn't want to support the idea that they won ww2 with the aid of material from capitalist countries. So often they would only include t34s or yak-9's in their footage. Once the soviet union fell there was also some evidence that the Soviets had scrubbed their archives of foreign aid since 1945 when foreigners were sometimes allowed access to their archives.

I've already made a comment about the issue with lend lease but I don't think i was specific enough so here goes. The lend lease programme didn’t affect crucial battles like the battle of Stalingrad, Leningrad and Moscow. Taking the fact that the USSR had more than 33 million men ready to fight the Germans, produced the most tanks throughout the war(not including lend lease tanks) and had the best tank in the war in my opinion (IS-2) i think it’s safe to say that the Soviets could have won the eastern front alone and even without lend lease equipment the Soviets would still be the largest, best equipped land army in history. Lend lease did speed up the process of victory in ww2 but was it decisive? Definitely not. The main reason why Germany lost was because of it’s horrible oil crisis, there was a reason why they tried to take over the caucuses oil fields but still failed because of the fierce Soviet resistance in the South(that wasn’t even provided with lend lease equipment at the time) and the Soviet victory at Stalingrad which helped turn the tide of the entire war(which also wasn’t affected by the lend lease programme). The Soviets also had the highest production rate than any other country throughout the war in pretty much everything, tanks, weapons, planes etc. Even if the Germans were somehow able to take Moscow, Stalingrad or Leningrad, i really don’t think Stalin will give up and say “well we tried” the Germans would still have to suffer from the huge casualties which could not be replaced after these battles, they would have to fight a whopping 33 million more men and a shit load of tanks thanks to the Soviet production rates of tanks and other weapons and the extremely long and tedious German supply lines thanks to how big the USSR is which would also affect Germany’s logistics problem as if it was any good in the first place. Even then, I’m pretty sure the Soviets would end up fighting to the bitter end just like how the Germans did in reality, this is also backed up by real world history where Napoleon invaded Russia but still lost the war because of the reason as stated above “Russia being too bloody big which affects logistics and supply lines” not only that but when Napoleon’s men entered Moscow the Russians responded by literally burning down their homes so that Napoleon would not be able to steal the food and supplies from the Russians. A more important question to ask would be, if the USSR didn't exist back then, could the western allies succeed in defeating Germany by themselves? Answer: No, the west won't stand a chance without the USSR, again, almost 80% of German casualties were on the East, not the west and about 70% of Germany's resources were poured on the eastern front, not the West and only 15% of German soldiers from the East were transferred to the West to fight the allies and this 15% of Germans just so happened to still somehow win against the obviously superior western allied manpower, taking these facts, you really think the West would stand a chance to fight all 100% of Germany's men even though they took more than a year to beat back the 15% of Germans that were stationed in the West? the battles on the west were miniscule compared to the east, the USSR was fighting big and heavy battles with huge amounts of casualties on both sides. In conclusion, let's examine some undeniable facts, Germany was unable to capture Moscow, Leningrad and Stalingrad even though the soviets had no lend lease equipment at the time, the lend lease act wasn't started in earnest for the USSR until 1944, just before d-day. Operation bagration1944 dealt the final blow to germany and by d-day the red army already reached the Polish border by late June 1944. The allies were fighting miniscule battles compared to the Soviets and were still struggling in trying to achieve victory over these small battles. No such problems or cohesion among the Soviet chain of command. Paris was captured unopposed. 80% of German casualties were on the east and as stated above, 70% of German resources like manpower etc were diverted to the Soviet front. In general, the Soviets could have won ww2 alone, with or without lend lease and could even win the whole of ww2 even if the allies didn't invade France in 1944 while the allies would have lost the war without the USSR soaking up Germany's resources, casualties and their manpower. I do expect to get some hate but honestly, I really don't care. Go ahead and argue in the comment section if you want, just make sure you read the whole thing even if you hate reading.

@Red Alert i mean the Soviets were so advanced they like had more then 100k tanks, artillery, aircraft about more then 10k and the air superiority was a complete success, the Germans couldn't even fight back, of course the soldiers the soviets had a lot more dead and injured. But still they even had more soldiers. So by my logic they would have won because Hitl4r hoped to defeat them quickly. Let me explain how war works. If Poland now wanted to attack Russia and they buy as much best tanks aircraft etc. And then they had more tanks and everything then Russia but they need a fast win Because Poland doesn't have the technology to make awesome tanks aircraft and that. But Russia does So if Poland attack Russia. Russia would bounce up military as soon as possible. They would build everything in 10k numbers. And Poland would be crushed. Like you people think Pakistan, India, and those countries who have a lot of tanks like 5k plus are stronger then Germany who now only has 200tanks? No same situation. They did not save ussr they only helped them There is two factors which are soviet capabilites and production back then and also timing in both factors ussr outproduce almost everything plus lend lease never arrived at crucial point at least one from usa which only started in late 1942 so mid of stalingrad campaing and did not start impacting soviets until mid 1943 and it really ramped up in late 1943 by 1944 ussr was providing soviets with quantities considered enough but by that point war was lost for the germans who later with usa exaggerated lend lease as cold war propaganda and made peoples to believe in total nonsense

No not even close. America supplied the USSR with 80% of its food because all of the farmers were conscripted and that left women who were still using horses and wooden plows to grow food which wasnt efficient at all. The USA supplied 50% of all the vehicles that the USSR, you're severely underestimating the amount of aid that the USA provided. Without the food, the USSR couldn't feed their troops or their people as they were consuming more than they can produce, without the vehicles and parts for those vehicles, they wouldve been reduced to using horses in combat against German tanks, without the train cars and spare railway parts, the USSR couldn't have supplied their troops. Without the USA the USSR probably couldn't have won. And if they did win, they would've lost millions upon millions more.

The title of this video should be : how the USSR saved the world from nazis. All of your words in this video are with no evidences. The USSR was helped military from usa ,but not in numbers that could do any difference. You "forget" to mention that the USSR had to pay for most of them, especially after1943. It is really for loughs the fact that the USSR was reinforced with tanks in 1944. In 1944 , the war had allready turned good for allies ,after the colapse of the eastern front and especially after the great battle of tanks (kursk) ,that was given with no western tanks .The most important fact of all, is that although the Soviet Union, was urgentlly asking for the opening of a second front, from the allies,in order to relieve the pressure the country had,the allies didnt do it,until the USSR,managed to destroy the nazi's troops and start marshing for Berlin. The allies refused to do so,in order to make the USSR forces ,less capable for the next round. We also have to see , who allowed Germany to be a strong military coyntry ,who did not react in the offencive policy of Germany against tcechs, austrians, polish, who had an embargo to the democratic Spain ,while Hitler and Mousoulini sent troops to fight for Franko (read Hemingway). thank you for publishing this sight of history.

    1) WW2 did not start with Germany. It started with Japan attacking China. That also empowered Hitler since there was no response. 2) Germany had no control over Japan. 3) while lend lease helped the Soviet union, and FDR would double their military machine requests, the Soviet union also made better tanks than the USA. Their T30's series we're good and equaled the Tiger Nazi tanks by the end. Also, their rocket launchers that they made were more effective than USA weapons. The AK-47 was a stolen Nazi gun design and parts cut out to make it simpler.

im gonna clarify why, before americans rush to reply to this comment, the US did send aid to the soviet union, but the soviets paid for it, and the "aid" arrived in 1942 and onwards, by that time, the soviet union stopped germany on their own and started to push them back. the aid was semi-helpfull, since by the time it arrived, the red army was well equpied and ready to take on the wehrmacht. machines such as the sherman or m3 tanks were mostly useless and were scrapped for t34 parts. only around 13% of the soviet army was supplied by the american land-lease. this number was going down towards the end of the war, since the soviet union had the industrial might to produce millions of rifles, tanks and planes, making the land-lease essentially useless from late '42 and onward. the only way the americans helped is by opening a second front on d-day '44 along with the british, canadian and commonwealth forces, further weakening the allready crumbling german army. considering that around 80% of the german forces fought on the east, the western allies had a much easier time going through france, belgium and the netherlands then the soviets had going through poland, and german occupied balkans (they had it easier in yugoslavia because of the hundreds of thousands of yugoslav partisans fighting alongside the red army) . In the pacific, the US did do a lot of fighting, but you forget that china was in war with japan since 1936, 5 years before the US even joined ww2. the soviets occupied manchuria, and the southern part of an island(of which i forgot the name because its some shit in the middle of nowhere), thus threatening japanese mainland of an amphibious invasion. all the nukes did was seal the doom of fascism in japan. overall, the US did do shit in the war, but nearly as much as USSR, China, and the UK, not to mention the countless lives of partisans who died trying to liberate their country from nazi occupation.
