LOL..... That game with Joseph Eddy in your first Hunter, I remember it. We came off a very relaxing summer, and you got completely deprogrammed, messing up three tourneys in a row. Mercifully, Hunter had a breaking point at the last round, and from there on, your rating zoomed to 1400 by the next summer. You were also very cute and feisty at the same time like a young lion. I feel Joseph man. I quit chess after a loss in a tournament by blundering backrank mate in a completely winning position. I was like 10 and very devastated. Then I play again in small tournament in my uni several years later and won my game. Stopped playing until the online chess crusade. Went online, got to 2200 online and ended up watching crap chess youtube videos. Cheers Levy.
@eldonhill4840

Your story is probably more similar to Levy's than Joseph's, because you quit and made a comeback. Levy quit for several years when he was a teenager, and it probably set him back considerably. He may even have already been a GM by this point if he hadn't, but who can say. If he was a professional player earlier on, he probably wouldn't have had the chance to have such success on youtube.

I am honored to have played Levy as a child. Although I stopped tournament play, I came back to chess after the Queen's Gambit came out as a show. I returned as a 1000 rated player and continued on my journey by watching GothamChess videos and am now 1400. Edit: I was joking about playing Levy as a child. My name is Joseph, just like the first person in the tournament, which is why I made a joke, which was apparently not so clear. The second half is true. And now I actually reached an ELO of 1500 by 2022, thanks to Levy. However, I have stopped playing since then because of the business of nursing school.

Thanks for the video as it brought back great memories! Like you, I played when I was a 'young-star'. I have old score sheets as well for when I was a kid playing in Jersey. For instance, they had these rated tournaments called the 'Edison Quads' that I used to attend. The sad or funny thing is that all of my rated games seem to be gone from the US Chess Federation. It is as though when I moved to California, my rating stared all over again, and not sure what happened to those old games. Weird, huh? Anyway, keep doing what you are doing!
Thank you for the work you put in your videos. I watch every single one of your videos as they come out every day and look forward to watch them. Thank you, Levy, for making my day!
When 7 year old Levi played, I had just gone to uni aged 18 and briefly played for the chess club there. I was probably only 1400 at that point (1700 now), but it was still the last point in my life where I was better than Levi at a point in time, despite being a decade older! Also notice similarties with 10 year old Levi and me. I play the Grand Prix and often screw up winning positions when in time trouble with bizzare moves like that knight move.
At 7 I didnt even knew chess existed and now it is my whole life
Please keep these coming, i love these videos

Its nice to see that it wasn't just me who would use the opening from game 1... Trying this opening now in online chess has a completely different feeling to it.
i actually had the same issue as you: bad openings. i know i can devise tactics mid game but when my opening is shit and my opponent punishes me instantly, it's just a lost game for me. That's why i stayed away from chess for quite some time but came back recently with the intent on improving my openings. Your channel is a great resource. Thanks!

Some of the quotes here are just top-tier. "Young but dangerous. . . It is what it is." I too remember being an edge lord. "You never truly understand anything about this game." "For some reason I was obsessed with writing small." Taking me on a nice trip through childhood here.
Watching this made me remember my own chess days as a kid. I used to play at school (not any prodigy by far, but just above good) and got into a few in-school tournaments. If I remember correctly, I just got bored and slowly moved away from chess completely. Got into more studies where I did turn out to be kind of a prodigy, then into gaming (I actually wanted to become an eSports player at one point, entered probably hundreds of tournaments) and about 7 months ago, I played chess again with one of the kids I competed with at an old tournament, he beat me easily. So I decided to get back into chess, and here I am. Not trying to get to any mastery levels, but I enjoy getting as good as I can.
i was living in Jersey at the time. The only time we got a chess club when I was in school was the social studies teacher trying to find prodigies to play in the city which is a shame because learning from people who really know the game would have been awesome
16:39 “I always have king E7” You should have saved yourself the time and played it on move 2, dummy
I played the exact same opening as 7 year old Levy when I was 7.

More of that, please!
Could you make a video on how to find the best move in a certain position it would be a great help for me and probably some others xd
So, am I supposed to get on with life knowing the version of Levy writing small letters was better than I've ever been?
10th day of translating Levy's titles into Neapolitan: "Quant facev schif Levy a 7 ann?"
Dang, hope you get it soon! The army of normal Santa Jack expands…
Very interesting video levy, i thoroughly enjoyed it. thank you
Levy increased 500 points rating in one year

Love the name and pfp
I would like to see a lesson on the Grand Prix attack. It's a fun way to deal with the Sicilian, but I'm always stuck in complications after move 8.
I'm not 7 and those are still the only kinds of plans I have Levy, this was one of the most useful videos I have ever watched
