How and WHY you should comment on Advisory Circular 91-57C

Ғылым және технология

The FAA released the “Exception for Limited Recreational Operations of Unmanned Aircraft” Advisory Circular 91-57C a few weeks ago and you have until August 9, 2021 to give them your feedback.
I'll explain what this document is, why you should comment on it, and how you can go about submitting your comment.

Have sent comments - from UK, don't know if it matters. Feel it is important to add weight to the discussion. The real problem though is the whole concept and tone of document (and all the regulations, actually) is wrong. They just have no concept of the types of people they are dealing with, and how and what they fly. Needs a clean sheet, really. Not going to happen, though.

Thanks for sending in a comment, even if you don't live in the US. Some of my comments were along the same lines as what you state, telling the FAA that particular statements make it sound like they have no idea about the variety of safe recreational flights that are happening every day. This AC perpetuates the stereotype that the FAA is clueless about the hobby and is trying to force their general aviation rules on to recreational drone users which is not at all appropriate.

Great video thankyou. How about 'Drop the entire circular and get back to administering safety where deaths and accidents ARE actually happening - Manned aviation'. It seems the RC community has a big target on its back when it comes to the FAA. They pick on a sport with a perfect world wide fatality record and pretend it's dangerous.

Yep, I hope the latest DAC tasking group looking at risk will help the FAA come to the conclusion that regulating recreational drones as much as they are is not necessary as the risk is just not there.

If sets up a whole lot of more rules that NO ONE voted on. This is the way that they circumvent putting these rules in as regulations, but yet they are regulations since they will be enforced as such. Most of these things are much more "restrictive" than they NEED to be. The form is ridiculously restrictive. Why not just have a comments section...and...not require your name. There is NO reason to identify yourself. Here is the deal, these guidelines are more like Part 107 guidelines. NONE of these should apply to the sub 250 gram (toy) category. That should be separated out. These guidelines should have 2 parts: sub 250 gram and a 250 gram and over. OK, so I have commented. Not that is will do any good, but there it is. At this rate, the FAA is just driving the hobby underground.

Thanks for submitting comments. It is appreciated. I agree, under a certain weight, there is so little risk, that there should be basically no regulations. Much like the rules in Canada for sub 250g. The issue might be that the FAA appears to have no risk assessment for drones, thus are trying to copy the regulations they do have onto drones, which is not the right approach. It will take time, but hopefully if enough of us continue to push back, we can make things better. Hopefully the hobby is not gone by then.

@@5zero7RC In my opinion, it will come down to enforcement and ramifications. If they are lenient, the hobby will last longer. If they are HARD on pilots...like a $100,000 fine for not having a spotter or something like that, then the hobby will be like street racing....it will go underground...fly it like you stole it, don't get caught, and DO NOT post videos. Also, the FAA has said that most of the leads they follow up on are submitted by Part 107 pilots. If these guys would mind there own business, then things might be workable.
