Popp is basically an upgraded version of Birgit Prinz when it comes to women's team. And it's so crazy that the women's side were still great with a natural striker while the men's side struggled a lot since the retirement of Miroslav Klose.

Since you compared her to Prinz, is she underrated in the women's game? Prinz won so many individual prizes as the best women's player in the world. But Popp doesn't seem to be up there in the discussion, looks like she's flying under the radar when it comes to individual awards no?

@@dwkickoff Probably not. She was still recognized as one of the most powerful footballer in Germany, even though had a slightly lesser success than Prinz. Considering the men's side was so underwhelming without No.9, the women's side at least had a successful performance with the No.9. Also, Popp is not only considered the best German women footballer in recent times. Most fans expected young prospects like Lena Oberdorf and Giulia Gwinn as the best. But the latter's ACL syndrome literally affected the German's defences. Despite of this, the other 2 sectors were still strong.

​@@dwkickoffmay also just be different eras of women's football - less competition for best in the world at the time - and since so many individual awards place emphasis on international performances, Popp missing Euros with unlucky injuries and Germany having ok but not fantastic WM Performances has put her further down the list...

I watched the u20 world cup in 2010, and she was the reason I became a fan of women soccer. not only because of how good the german team was back then, but the way alex poop scored her goals. they were so different and unique, she literally outplayed every defense and goalkeeper. I bought some of her worn jerseys from duisburg at that time, met her at the field cause not many have watched the matches. and now its 13 years later, time flies and Im glad I can still witness her career.

When she scored with a header from a corner against Arsenal, no one understood really how she made it. It is a kind of magic. I wish she could do more for the team of Wolfsburg to get a better coach.

all i can say as an Englishman i am glad she didnt make the Euro final or the result may have been a lot different, Bu as much ad i want England to win the WC i think it'll be either Spain or Germany
