Bottom line: Morocco beat TWO teams that Germany didn't ( or couldn't ) beat. End result... Morocco advances and Germany goes home.

Germany played a very, very physical game and avoided being called three or four times for fairly obvious fouls. As a group, Germany was taller and a step faster, but Korea played very well and had excellent defense. They were determined and unintimidated. Props to them.

These teams are better than what they want to give them credit for. It’s so disgusting Alexi has become a complete talking piece for US soccer federation and his ridiculous “us against the world BS”. He should know better. He’s become unwatchable with his ridiculous takes for the men’s side and defending hiring Greg again. he’s the resident US Soccer dad to make sure everything is unicorns and rainbows and when the US sucks it has to be some anomaly and act like we are living in an alternate universe. Must be the Mandela effect. Explains why S. Africa is still in it …right alexi? 😵‍💫

@@KenUbeleveit1 So if we work backwards from today's draw with South Korea, the loss to Colombia, the first round win over Morocco, and that last, 'tune-up" game loss with Zambia, we see Germany has won just a single match in all 4 recent international matches. I think it paints a broad picture of systemic failure for Germany.

I’ve never seen a team rattled like Germany was and it showed. It was probably the most aggressive match I seen at these games and they were lucky didn’t receive more yellow cards than the one. USA presenters still don’t get it that the gulf between developing nations and the establish countries in sport has shrank. Its happened in other sports like swimming and gymnastics for example were America was dominate for so long. This is good for the sport. Yes it’s been shocking to see four the top ten ranked teams exit competition. The more these players in developing countries get the exposure playing in some the top leagues in the world it will only benefit their national teams.

I watched the match (for a large part) on the German broadcast (I'm from the Netherlands). The German commentators were to stunned to give any reaction at all. There was the obligatory analysis, but they had to let it sink in to really understand what just had happened. For them it's the next chapter in the decline of German football. The men's team were out in the group stage two WC's in a row, the men's youth team (under 21) didn't make it out of the group stage, and now this.

Defense, defense, defense. They looked like they had no clue, they were soooooo vulnerable against the counter. But they didn’t concede that many goals. One in stoppage time, at the last second of the game basically (lack of focus I would say), and one today on an offside misalignment. I would say, it’s their midfield that is weak. I can’t say that I saw anyone other than Oberdorf. They were completely unable to construct plays. Knowing they were out, they had 70+ minutes to score 2 goals, and at no point you felt any sense of urgency. They just could not produce any play.

Strange how critics being so analytical about football as if powerful teams are always entitled to win. That's the beauty of the game.., when guts and heart prevail over best laid plans on paper. Shattering expectations is why the game is so dynamic.

  • @uchennanwosu4625

Germany is a strong team but it has a very predictable machine like play. One can almost predict what each player will do. As a result, they get opportunities but they are not necessarily easy to convert. They have an incomparable striker in Popp but she never had a high quality opportunity. This is partly what happened to the U.S. in their game against Portugal. They lacked the patience in the final third. Sometimes an extra pass or dribble is needed to further open up a defense. A clinical finish is not always possible especially against a spirited defense.

The young players, while performing quite well at the Euro, failed here and haven't really been doing very well in the matches leading up to the WC. Maybe they need more experience, but maybe some of them just don't have the quality. It's sad for Popp, Doorsoun and Hegering who played well and for whom this most likely was the last world cup.

German players have to learn again how to think on their own. They have been taught to do whatever the coach tells them, but they don't think for themselves, they have no mentally tools to handle solutions, the coach hasn't prepared them too. If a team does not react the way they were told, they are helpless. And yes, they need to remember it takes more than Alex Popp to win a game. Australia had to learn the same when Sam Kerr was missing for 4 matches and they figured this out.

I think, especially in Europe, the pro teams get so involved in preparing for the Champions League title that the international championships (WC and Olympics) become less important. The bi-annual events become more like All-Star get togethers than full bore competitions. The only exception being the Euros. Even those games, especially the qualifiers are sometimes optional for some players. As a fan, I would watch 1) Champion's League (thanks DAZN!), 2a) World Cup, 2b) Euros, and the heck with Olympics.

People were attacking the US women for not being good and not considering the fact that other teams are catching up.. Now Brazil, Germany are gone.. shame on those attacking the US women

What?! You guys stunk measuring up to your own entitled standard, how do other teams underachieving negate any of that criticism, more than one team can stink, didn't germany hand the US their first home loss ever or something like that a few months ago maybe you stink even more or just underperformed slightly less

In the context of Worl Football its very simple ... other Nation's are catching up to the top Natoinal teams and the top National teams have not progressed, We England are European Champions ... Watch out for us!!!.

Well deserved for Germany. Clown soccer from game 1. Embarrassing. But this is German soccer nowadays. The last wall of German soccer fell. CU in 5 - 10 years....

They wanted to play in different formations, in the preparation games they tried too much, in the group stages still changing things up every game, no build up chemistry. 4-3-3 was too predictable the coach said but you reached the final of the euros with your best goal scorer unable to play. Maybe run it back Coach..
