And with the Ahsoka finale approaching, we need to talk about how it’s all going to end, how it’ll set up Dave Filoni’s new Star Wars movie, and why Ben Solo, Jacen Sendulla, and Din Grogu will be at the center of it all.
So as we discussed in yesterday's video, I think the bulk of the season finale is going to focus on what’s going on with Baylan Skoll. There’s a mysterious force calling to Baylan on Peridea [clip]
A force that is likely tied to the ancient force users called the Zeffo, and the mysterious realm of The World Between Worlds. It's a great video, be sure to check it out.
But then there’s the question of Thrawn, his undead army, and our journey to what will likely be a theatrical adaptation of Heir to the Empire. [clip]
Doug: What’s Heir to the Empire?
Okay so back in the 90’s, a few years after Return of the Jedi came out. There were a lot of great novels that followed the adventures of Luke, Han, Leia and the others after their defeat of the Galactic Empire. And one of the best post-Jedi stories was Heir to the Empire.
This is where we’re introduced to a surviving Grand Admiral of the Galactic Empire called Grand Admiral Thrawn. Thrawn has taken control of the remaining remnants of the Empire and is determined to retake the galaxy.
Luke is now a Jedi Knight and working on rebuilding the Jedi Order, sound familiar? [clip]
Leia and Han are married, expecting a baby, and are very involved in the New Republic.
So when Thrawn arrives, naturally we see Luke, Han, and Leia jump back into action to take on this new threat.
Now it's likely that Ahsoka, Hera, Ezra, and Sabine will be taking that center stage in this theatrical showdown with Thrawn-which makes sense canonically considering they fought and defeated Thrawn prior to A New Hope in Rebels. [clip]
But it’s still kind of weird to think that Luke, Han, and Leia wouldn’t be playing a major role in this fight against Thrawn and a resurrected Empire.
In yesterday's video we discussed that Disney really needs to recast the big three. Luke, Han, and Leia are the heart of Star Wars and it just doesn’t make sense that they wouldn’t be involved in this live action version of Heir to the Empire.
But we may have gotten a hint that Han, Luke, and Leia will be returning in the Heir to the Empire movie. Nira 592 on Twitter pointed out that in this scene from Ahsoka we can see some names displayed on Baylan’s wristband.
Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, R2D2, C3PO, and Ben.
This could be a wink and a nod to fans that these original trilogy heroes will be returning soon to join the fight against Thrawn. And the most interesting name on here has to Ben.
Doug: Yeah what’s that about? Is it like Ben Kenobi?
Actually buddy, I think it’s in reference to Ben Solo, aka, Kylo Ren. During this time Ben would be around 6 years old at the time of the Ahsola series. And we know from the Boba Fett series that Luke has just finished building his Jedi training temple.
So I think that in this Heir to the Empire movie we could see the early days of Ben Solo-and him showing an interest in training with his uncle Luke.
We could also see the son of Hera and Kanan, Jacen Syndulla, begin his training with Luke. [clip]
The Ahsoka series has shown that Jacen has an interest in learning the ways of the Jedi like his father. And we’ve also seen that he already has a strong connection to the force when he was able to sense Ahsoka in the World Between Worlds. [clip]

I believe your on target with the theory. Excellent video, btw ❤. You did forget about Cal Kestis acted by Cameron Monaghan. They picked him because he can play Cal in live action. I believe Cal might save Ahsoka, Ezra, and Sabine in the next season of Ahsoka. Plus he has the lovely Nightsister, Merrin, who is a perfect counter to Nightsister magick.

Honestly I've always loved this idea, especially when considering Superheroes tbh. People are tired of seeing the same 4 origin stories every decade, so if you feel the need to do your own interpretation of one, don't do it in the movie. Nobody wants to pay 15 bucks to see the Wayne's or Ben Parker die, again

I definitely agree that we need to flesh out the time period between the OT and ST. It feels like the big culmination film is wrapping things up way too early, seeing as even by the time the Ahsoka show takes place, there's still a good 20 years before The Force Awakens. I hope you're right that the Heir to the Empire film turns out to be a trilogy. There's so much story potential, and it would be a real shame to rush this story.

I want Thrawn to be like in novels where his ultimate goal is to help his people. Which is why he is not in the sequels. And if he talks Ezra into fighting with him that explains where he went as well. Remember that Thrawn is not evil per se.... He is Machiavellian meaning the ends justifies the means. His goal is to help his people win a war against an enemy that the Republic knows nothing about. So his goals and Ezra's goals could match up if the story is told the right way.

@@richardhood3717 They only issue with your theory is, that it would have made a bit more sense if Ezra and Thrawn got to know each other a little better over the 10 years they spent at Peredia. I'm not saying they had to become best friends or anything, but at least some grudging respect. Because otherwise Thrawn would have to do a LOT between now and the time for him to leave. This version of Ezra, who spent 10 years hating (and escaping) from Thrawn and his troopers didn't lay the foundation for Thrawn to eventually win over Ezra, in my opinion...

@@saviorebello7342yeah, I'm a little sad they didn't go that route. Ezra and Thrawn as grudging allies in this mess could have been amazing. My vote was that they'd find them both stranded on a planet, alone, Ezra had a hut, Thrawn went native, long hair, hide clothing, then as soon as his ride shows up he goes from feral with a knife to Grand Admiral Thrawn again, just in hide clothing. Hate we didn't get to see that.

Well thought out theory....but there is only a very small chance that you are right about all that. The time jump thing is good, and it actually sets Shin up to take Mara Jade's place. Baylan literally told her to go back and be a leader in the new empire, but we also see her doubts at this early stage. After the time jump, she could be a very established antagonist (come love interest) to Luke. We haven't really got enough time to see much of the new galaxy in the finale, so (for your theory to work) we may need another series of Ahsoka to set it up. UNLESS Skeleton Crew is set in the new Galaxy and characters like Ezra, Sabine, Baylan and Ahsoka are in it. The wiki premise for the show is "The series follows four kids who end up on an adventure to make their way home after being lost in the galaxy following a discovery they make on their home planet." Now, we don't know what galaxy they're from or where they are going, but I have a strong hunch that their discovery may well be a doorway to a force nexus (like the world between worlds). If there is a new show set in this new galaxy, the audience will be invested in it, and it also gives a new home for the missing characters from the sequels. Interestingly, perhaps many of the ships at the finale of TROS are actually characters returning or coming from said galaxy. This would tie perfectly into the sequels and set up Rey with a load of new force users. Perhaps, by the end of the Filoni era, many force users (including Ezra, Sabine, Ahsoka, Grogu, Jacen, Baylan, Shin, Cal) Night Sisters (including Merrin, Morgan Elsbeth, The grand mothers etc), Mandalorians (including Din, Boba, The Armorer, Ragnor, Koska Reeves, Ax woves etc. etc.) and other nowhere-to-be-found characters ended up in that galaxy and that is Dave's new playground. Sure, many will die. However, there are enough great characters to create something awesome. ...... Additionally, it would be great to see the fall of Luke's temple from the perspective of surviving students that 'somehow' survived and made it to the other galaxy. The whole idea that Luke's perception of that event could have been incomplete, and in fact there was a deeper storyline going on would make that whole flashback in the sequels so much more.

Ahsoka will come back using the World Between Worlds to see Sabine but she at this point will be Ahsoka "The White" as seen at the end of Rebels. With this knowledge she will be able to use this to manipulate what has happened in Ahsoka Season One.

I agree with Nia (SW Theory) that Episode 6 may just be the best episode of any SW series on Disney+. It's not my personal favorite although it would easily be in my top 5 but it's arguably the best. I was a bit shocked when I checked the IMDb score and it's only at 8.3. Ep 5 with the Hayden memberries has the highest followed by Ep 4. Hayden is definitely much better acting as Anakin now than he did 20 years ago when he was winning Razzies for it. IMDb Scores Episode 1: 7.9 Episode 2: 7.9 Epsiode 3: 7.4 Episode 4: 8.8 Episode 5: 9.3 Episode 6: 8.3 Episode 7: 8.0 Overall Ahsoka: 8.0 Andor: 8.4 The Mandalorian: 8.7 I thought Far, Far Away had the best world building we've ever seen from a SW episode. It was so good, I wanted to rewatch it again the following morning. Most episodes, I'll only watch it once because I don't have that urge to rewatch it. Only Ep 4 and 6 did I want to rewatch them the next morning. Episode 7 became a step down because we needed more of Baylan's sidequest. Remember all the whining about Bo-Katan's sidequest becoming the main story to The Mandalorian S3? This isn't the case with Baylan because he has this great mystery hanging over his head we're all trying to figure out. And he seems a far more interesting character than Bo-Katan. Ranking the most kickass characters in Ahsoka excluding Anakin.... 1. Baylan Skoll 2. Ahsoka Tano 3. Ezra Bridger 4. Shin Hati 5. Thrawn 6. Great Mothers 7. Morgan Elsbeth 8. Sabine Wren 9. Huyang 10. Hera Syndulla Straight up combat, Thrawn is not beating most Force or lightsaber users. Now if it was straight fist to fist with no Force and weapons, I'll like his chances similar to Steve Rogers beating Tony Stark without a suit on. Steve would whoop Tony's ass and Iron Man is my guy. I got Ahsoka below Baylan because it doesn't seem she can defeat him. In Rebels, she had a hard time against bigger, stronger opponents like when she faced Vader. It's not like Baylan is agile and mobile. He takes these huge swings and Ahsoka can't withstand these blows like if Mike Tyson was hitting her. She's simply getting overpowered by his bigger/heavier size, longer reach, and more raw strength. Initially, I thought she had won the first fight after she kicked Baylan 3x to the ground in Ep 4. I gave her the benefit of the doubt because she burned her hand touching the map and getting distracted by Sabine's fate after she saw Shin. But now it seems Ahsoka really can't handle Baylan. *He* *acts* *like* *Dooku* *but* *fights* *like* *a* *full* *human* *Vader* *without* *a* *costume.* He got his own Rogue One hallway scene in the very first episode for goodness sakes. It's clear Shin has no problem against Sabine. That's like comparing The Empire Strikes Back to The Last Jedi. No contest which is the better middle movie of a trilogy. But when we watch Shin face Ahsoka, she struggles. Heck, she struggled against a lightsaber-less Ezra. This is why I still have Ezra above her and from leaks, he will wield a lightsaber again. Will have his "Steve Rogers carrying Mjölnir moment" where fans will cheer when Ezra uses it. I'm going to be curious how Ahsoka S2 plays out if we ever get one. If Baylan and Shin were never in this series, I'm not sure I would've kept watching passed Ep 3. I'm also not sure if I'm going to enjoy watching Shin join Ahsoka. I would rather see her team up with Thrawn (at least for now) and wreck havoc in their galaxy. Yesterday, I ordered a hat with the Andor logo on it from Aliexpress. Cost me about $14 with taxes and shipping included. And I'll keep repeating it, I initially HATED Andor. As much as I like Nia's I

My thoughts have always kind of been that the Rey movies will sort of start out pretty hopeful feeling, like she is being successful and people are open to her. But as she approaches the outer rim, she slowly gets less welcome and it turns out after Mandalore feels kind of used, it took a bit more of a xenophobic stance and it also basically took Grogu in. He has grown in this time, and probably speaks more like Din, but he has a much more Mandalorian attitude toward the force. He might be more like Baylan. And it might be he knows how to access the whole of the Force and has his own little Force community that did spread out and he also sees the same danger that Baylan does of the Jedi pose, the Sith won't be far behind and the cycle begins again. And he is disappointed in Rey that she is ignoring a whole side of herself.

Ohhh!! That's an EXCELLENT perspective! I've always wanted the Canon storyline to explore the 'balance of both sides' aspect of the Force, like Bindu and now Baylan... Considering the actor sadly passed away, I don't see how they can expand Baylan's journey, so having Grogu continue the narrative exploration of 'getting in touch' with both sides of the Force would be amazing!

Like when ezra brought ahsoka back, she had to leave from the gate she was pulled from and ezra had to leave through his gate. Also do you think the destruction of the world will lead to ahsokas actual death?

I believe that Ahsoka episode 8 will end with the death of Baylan Skoll and then Shin Hati will join Ahsoka Tano, Sabine Wren & Ezra Bridger, but then they will be stuck on Peridea after Grand Admiral Thrawn & Morgan Elsbeth return to the main Star Wars Galaxy, that would let the characters of Skeleton Crew be the ones to save our heroes, also I think that Mark Hamill will make a cameo appearance as Luke Skywalker at the end of this season and come face with Grand Admiral Thrawn. This will set up the Star Wars Heir to the Empire film! We at least know that Ahsoka is dead during the events of Star Wars Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker!

Have to say something about Enoch that I haven't heard mentioned on this channel or New Rockstars. In the movie Excalibur, Mordred (who, in that movie, is supposed to be Arthur's illegitimate son with his half-sister Morgan LaFaye) wears golden armor with a helmet that has a face plate in the shape of a face--similar to Enoch. Given that we have a witch named Morgan here, it seems like we're pulling multiple items from that story.

The canon Thrawn trilogy really make me think that the conquering of the New Republic is not the goal of Thrawn. All these characters not appearing in the Sequel Trilogy should not be such a big issue. Ahsoka, Ezra, Sabine, Chopper, Zeb, Hera, Thrawn, Bo-Katan, Din Djarin, Grogu, Greef Karga, Peli Motto, Cara Dune, Fennec Shand, Baylan Skoll, Shin Hati, Quinlan Vos, and many more we have seen in these Post Battle of Endor series, were not present or mentioned in the Original Trilogy either. Our World explanation: they were invented after RotJ, and in most cases after AotC/RotS In Star Wars Galaxy: the Galaxy is a huge place. Yoda in RotJ said that with his death Luke would be the "last remaining Jedi" ... yet there are several Jedi, either trained at the Temple pre-Order 66 - or trained by someone other than Luke, still running around in these current series (as well as Rebels, which started before ANH and ended at the same time as RotJ).

Luke, Han, and Leia are so fundamentally crucial to this era of Star Wars it doesn’t make sense for there to be any major conflicts that they’re not involved in. In ROTJ before Mon Mothma even announces that they found the Death Star plans, Han is already on board to lead the crew to take down the shield generator and volunteered his ship for Lando to fly. Even as far back as Empire they have such high status rank in the alliance that they’re able to order everyone around, and everyone keeps the door open for as long as possible in a blizzard so Han can retrieve one lost soldier, Luke. Pretty much from the minute Luke blew the first Death Star they instantly became the most important people in the rebellion, and whether it’s for plot convenience or not, almost nothing happened without their direct involvement for like an entire 3 year period.

couple of things. I think the new republic will be heavily involved in the fighting, but it will disarm after the have defeated the imperial remnant forces. I think Thrawn's final defeat will be because the first order betrays him and leaves to the outer rim instead of reinforcing him perhaps with a message from snoke "All Imperial forces loyal to the true emperor are to follow me to the unknown regions. This is your First Order." But also I think we will get our heroes recast to give them their swan song send off.
