my theory for why Danny and crew never made saddles for the dragons is that they didn't have any dragon handlers around to do the saddling and unsaddling. It would be incredibly difficult for Danny to have done it on her own and how many other people were around that would have been safe and comfortable doing that job without fear of becoming a dragon snack? In HOT D the dragon handlers are highly trained and have entire buildings, gear and tools designed to help them manage the dragons, and I think that includes saddling and unsaddling them. Danny and her team ain't got none of that. Sure, they could have made a saddle, but how and who is gonna put the saddle on the dragon?

My theory is that David and Dan just didn't put that much thought into it.

It’s fascinating what you said about Viserys being the one to say that Targaryens don’t control the dragons because he had Balerion, maybe bonding with the oldest most powerful dragon in the world gave him that insight? Or maybe the Targaryens can control the dragons but he couldn’t control Balerion, which led him to believe it was impossible.

Maybe but he always talks about Balerion like they had a really good relationship and that he was heartbroken when balerion died so I read that as more of a loving admittance that the dragon riders cant control dragons. Kind of the sake vibes as like friend you really like but occasionally does something fucked up and you are like yea thats just balerion. He can be a mess sometimes

RE: Rhaenyra and Allicent being more relatable in season 1, I LOVE it, bc in universe historians will always be writing through the lens of their later actions. Only this normal kind of narrative structure can really show their behavior evolving, bc it doesn’t have to go through that historical lens.

Only Alt Shift X can have a 3 hour commentary on a video only 1 minute long.

I was reading about the helmet adornments (years ago during the GoT heyday), and they were used almost exclusively at tourneys and were made of something distinctly breakable like plaster of Paris. Otherwise they would be something to grab onto and wrench your opponents neck with. Written records of them exist, but no actual examples, because they were designed to be impermanent. (PS, I know that Westeros and our real world medieval Europe are two different places. I’m just talking about the inspiration.)

Nearly all the armour and weapons are designed around medieval examples. My main gripe though, is that the main characters almost never wear their helms in battle.

It makes sense you would have a basic helmet practically made and just add stuff on top. Just chip that stuff off when you actually need to go to war

I appreciate the old video's use of artist's renditions of characters we have not seen in the show over AI images. Especially since you've both been very good at crediting the artists who have created the portraits.

Its more likely the hightowers and oldtown have a glass candle rather than alicent having dragon dreams. Also could alicent be on the Isle of Faces. Cuz george told them about Aegons dream could we see the threat of the walkers and the apocalypse play a role in the decisions we see

tbh the double match was arguably the only offer that would please both Corlys and Rhaenys; Corlys cares first and foremost about the Velaryon name on the Iron Throne (and Driftmark, to a lesser extent) but with Laenor dead he would also want to further secure his access to power by way of that name - meanwhile, Rhaenys only cares about Laena’s daughters inheriting driftmark (and Vaemond’s claimed argument was that he wanted Velaryon blood on the driftwood throne). With all these conflicts rife within house Velaryon, itself the only major ally Rhaenyra had at that time, the double match was arguably the only solution which appealed to all factions, and even then it didn’t fully work when Vaemond grew too fixated on succeeding Corlys

We may not see Daeron until the Green army from Oldtown mobilizes, which they could delay until S3, but to not have an intro to him before then seems odd.

I like the idea that while her three old children all have sliver hair, young Daeron has dark hair, and looks exactly like Prince Jace. This is the reason he's been swiftly moved to Old Town and not seen at court very much. Basically at that funeral event on Driftmark when King Visiry mistook Alicant for his former wife Aemma, she got rather frustrated, and made use of Ser Criston Cole to relieve 16 years of pent up frustrations (I mean why not, she knows he's already done with for the Princess). So the irony is that Cole is the father of both Jace and Daeron, who are both brave daring boys that rise to command in difficult circumstances, but are on opposite sides of the war.

@@Niceguy312373636 Hmm, good point. In the books he can ride a dragon, but I see your point that if he didn't have any dragon blood on either side, he shouldn't be able to. Though Nettles, Hard Hugh Hammer, Wilf the Sot and Adam Velaryon could all ride dragons, and although it's claimed that they all must be 'dragon seeds' and have some blood of the dragon, that is never proven, and perhaps common people can ride dragons and the idea that you must have the blood of the dragon is just a lie of the rulers. It's not like many got a chance. Also if the Hightowers are also from an ancient older line of dragonriders, from when their fort was Battle Isle with dragons roosting there, it would be from them on his mother's side that Daeron gets his dragon blood.

@@dromankass8655 You’re forgetting the many hundreds of other smallfolk who tried and died to tame dragons. The idea that a Cole bastard _coincidentally_ had the super-rare ability to tame a dragon which was absolutely necessary to fit in with the Targs is kind of a longbow. It’s Time Travelling Tyrion levels of tinfoil and doesn’t add as much as you think it does.

I love how averse you guys are to spoilers. Honestly it's a breath of fresh air compared to the people who think they're just hinting at stuff but in reality it's just blatant spoiling.

Do remember that this is just days after Aemond supposedly killed his own nephew. Even if he was in the same party as the likeable greens such as Helaena and Alicent, Aemond commiting one of the most taboo crimes in Westerosi culture isn't gonna stop them from rioting.

Hot D season 1 was absolutely phenomenal. Really felt like a prime GOT season, but with better visuals. I’m sure HBO will be able to keep it up.

the best thing about it is that the story is finished. we know the broad strokes and best moments and they get to play in the character moments of it all, but the story is done. who knows that thats really freaking helpful in adapting huh?

2:48:00 Wish I'd seen this live because they DID show Sunfyre in flight when the Greens left Driftmark after Laena's funeral. Three dragons, one of which was obviously Vhaegar. The other two had to be Sunfyre and Dreamfire.

I’m not sold on this whole “Seasmoke bonding with Addam means Laenor is dead” thing. It’s a pretty obscure point of lore that they’re either going to have to clunkily exposit or ignore and why go to the bother of rewriting the story so that Laenor survives if you’re just going to kill him offscreen anyway?

It's not weird that Daeron doesn't show up in season 2. His role in Fire & Blood doesn't start until events we won't see until season 3. So season 3 is where they should introduce him. Of course, unlike season 1, season 2 should MENTION him. Maybe have Alicent talk to Otto or someone about being worried about him all the way in Oldtown. But the Battle of the Honeywine won't happen until, at the very earliest, the first few episodes of season 3. And he does absolutely nothing beforehand.

The thing on her face is a sheer veil that one might wear at funeral or when in mourning. Thats why it covers her hair and skin. Shes also wearing black for mourning

50:36 actually Daemon's not working his biceps and delts. The specific movement that is achieved through moving the footag back and forth is very similar to overhead triceps extensions. So he would be working his triceps like this.

I‘ve never been more excited about an Alt Schift X video than „The real Jon Snow“, except of course Alt Schwift X‘s reaction to Glidus stabbing him in the back

Bloodstone Emperor took place at the end of the Great Empire of the Dawn, and they were already dragon riders (built the 5 forts and other sealed stone structures, similar to Valyria). Doubtful that his actions allowed dragon riding. More likely that it was the ancient primordial experiments of human-animal hybrids and mass enslavement and breeding that happened in Sothyros / Basilisk Isles, creating a lizard-person seems to be the secret sauce.
