Just an older person’s thoughts on what to look for in a house: 1) floor plan (is it kid friendly, kitchen layout, adult versus kid space etc), 2) proximity to good schools, 3) usable outdoor space, 4) room to grow, 5) sun exposure (this will be key in Arizona obviously).

Yes, where are there stairs where can you put baby gates, and how will you childproof are important questions. With furniture, Remember that your child will probably be spilling stuff all over it... but nothing will be perfect so don't stress about it too much. :)

Absolutely love how Matt compliments Abby about everything she does and wears, this is definitely the type of man every girl needs to have a lifetime relationship with. I love their relationship so much, it's so beautiful. This is definitely what we woman need from our significant other especially when pregnant.

I also recommend looking at older homes because IF they have issues they are known and obvious- where as if you buy a new home there’s no telling. We just moved across the country from NC to Utah and my husband flew out to look at homes for us and all of the new homes we looked at had massive settling issues. So just keep that in mind!🥰

@@14sierranicole yeah. we liked where we live bc it was a neighborhood but in a pretty rural area about 15 min to town....now there's 500000 developments going up and new businesses too....no more rural 😑 sigh....so once the market slows down in a few yrs probably looking to move elsewhere....

I agree but also disagree. No a lot of space for the baby clothes and accessories and not a ton of space for a bassinet by the bed. They could MAKE it work but moving with a newborn would be so much more stressful

The market is crazy we bought our first home and closed on February 4th. We saw a total of six homes all around OKC. Some we didn't like then I found it our dream flip home. It only had one owner the house was well kept. It's a older home my husband and I are going to remodel it. Paint the cabinets, epoxy the counter tops with marble, replace the oven, paint the house, eventually replace all the flooring. If you do get a newer home please get it inspected. Even if it's brand new some construction companies make cuts and there are a ton of things need to be fixed.

My son and his fiancé’ live in Lake Havasu City, AZ. About 2 hours west of you guys, I believe. There is a small town near there on the water called Parker, AZ. This is where Radiator Springs originated. There is a rock formation there that is identical to the one on Cars. It’s really beautiful.

As a younger Arizona couple also looking for their first house, some things I’ve learned is that every house right now is going to be priced way more than it’s worth right now on AZ. Houses are going for 75k-150k more than they were a year ago. If you are looking at a new build, definitely check outlier cities like Surprise, Estrella, Buckeye. They are beginning to grow faster as far as things to do, stores, restaurants, etc. and if you can get in with a builder sooner, then you can save way more. Also make sure the city has access to public utilities such as SRP and APS. Anthem has some great houses, but utilities are privatized and water alone could cost several hundred a month

I also chose a bedroom set from Ashley furniture when I was 7 and used it till I moved out at 18 ( now 25 ) My youngest sister used it just until last year ! Love that you guys are finding pieces for your future home! I'm an Interior Design and one thing I would say when buying furniture for your home is, don't buy a set!!! Your house will look so much more custom if you buy a bed that you love but them also different types of nightstands (they can match each other but be different from the bed), and then even buying a dresser that is also different from the other furniture in you room. It can all be similar in style/color but it looks so much better and ages so much less when you have different pieces! Can't wait to see the house you choose and raise your growing family in!!

I know that a new house would be great but honestly, when having a young family I love neighbourhoods that is minimum a year old because of what I know about unexpected doctor/hospital visits(Little Bobby cuts his lip and needs stitches or gets a fever. Being out in a brand new subdivision can be tricky. Can’t wait to see the home you end up with!! Have a great week!!🥰🥰

We have been looking for houses all week because we are just renting right now. We moved from NY to NC 3 years ago and we are finally looking to find a house to own. This vlog is super encouraging thank you guys for doing these amazing vlogs!

Hello Matt & Abby, My husband and I have been married 48 years. We purchased our 1st home after 4 months of marriage. It had been rental property and needed a lot of DIY projects completed. We spent 13 years in that home. It cost us a lot of money, and never seemed to get away from remodel projects. The next two homes we purchased were built from the ground up. What a fun time in our marriage. Purchasing a new home gives you warranty, peace of mind and years down the road to budget for repairs down the road. I agree there is nothing better than knowing you are the only person that has lived in your home. We would highly recommend that you consider a new home purchase. Many cities/states, equire certain building codes. Certain standards for energy efficiency, electrical wiring, plumbing, and installation of hot water tanks, windows, HVAC, and etc., will be up to date, all at the time you purchase. Many of these features will actually assist your budget because they save money. State of the art thermostats, energy efficient appliances, and windows, insulation, etc. This savings can be applied to your monthly mortgage payments. If you purchase older homes there is no guarantee of proper electrical, plumbing, wiring, and efficiency. These are all high priced projects should you encounter these issues. Interest rates are fairly low right now. Why not start with a new home,? Do your homework and purchase from a credible builder. Look for higher end faucets, lighting, hardware, appliances that are included in their "standard base cost/ inclusions". We have heard so many people voice critical remarks about young people purchasing such large homes. I get that, as some young couples over-extend their budget or pay too much. We value, and treasure the gift of "Family"! The time to have a larger home is when you have your children. Such wonderful memories. Kids make having a larger home fun, they can move around, and enjoy living in a home prepared for family. Get the home you want, and can afford., Enjoy it with kids, parents, grandparents, and friends. Our thoughts were, if you have a home for your children to bring their friends to during their teen years, You know where your kids are, and what they are doing. A larger home will have better resale value, and generally are in areas where there will be couples your age, and plenty of children in your neighborhood for your kids to spend time with. Do consider a bonus room, or even a 5th bedroom. That 5th bedroom could be set up as an office and most likely deductible on your taxes. Every space used for your business, operated out of your home is a great tax deduction. You want to be spending time with Family. A new Home affords you that ability. We never know what, or how, life will change our path. My husband's Mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. We moved her in with us for 12 years. I am so thankful we had that ability to do that. You may face this type of journey and you would be prepared. Also, if you find your "Forever" home, make certain you have a master bedroom type situation on the main floor. This home would allow you to stay in your home as you move into your senior years. Has anyone told you that a "Ranch" style home will cost more than a two story or multilevel home? The reason is due to the land needed for the footprint of a "Ranch". Often times if you purchase a two story, or multi level home you will get that bonus room, and most of the time cheaper because you build up, instead of out. It takes less land to go up. I loved having kids, and guest rooms upstairs! People can come into your home and never see your kids messy rooms. Some builders offer two master type suites on both levels. The master on the main floor works great for elderly guests that cannot do stairs. Hope our experience has given the two of you some things to think about. Starting over in another home sets you back. Purchase with knowing you could live in that home the rest of your life.. Every time you sell a home,, the commission is anywhere from 2% to 10% commission. That hurts! We so wish we had purchased a new home the first time we purchased. The first 13 years we worked hard, spent a lot of money, and ended up selling to get the home we desired for our Family. Often times repairs you have to make in an older home are items you never see. Sub-flooring, hot water tank, insulation, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and the list goes on. Not a fun time sinking money in to these areas and items you do not see. You two are so adorable! Love and adore each other every day of your marriage! We are so thankful for the 48, plus, years God has given to us. We are blessed beyond measure. Your home should be what you desire, and can afford. Get a home you will love in your 20's as well as in your 70's. God Bless both of You as you prepare for your little "Bundle of Joy"!

Pro tip: y’all need to hire a realtor. As a buyer you pay nothing because the seller/ builder pays the realtor, and they can save you a lot of money and be an advocate for you even if you’re going for a new build. We have a realtor for our new build and it’s so nice to have someone who’s well versed in contracts. She goes by weekly to check on the progress and make sure things are done correctly!

My favorite house was definitely the one with the kitchen that had black cabinets going to the ceiling. I don’t know what about that house, but I seriously love it!

Looking at model homes is the best. It’s really easy to get caught up on certain details in them though… with a new build take a nickel and dime you on what is called a upgrade. Some builders a lot of stuff is not included. Here in Utah my parents built a house and even getting the cabinets to the ceiling was more. Going into the design center really opens your eyes… That’s when you decide what is more important now and can wait until later lol

Houses with one previous owner is where it’s at! New construction will often have weird problems come up, but houses with one previous owner have usually worked through a lot of those problems already.

I know Phoenix is where you've been looking but Goodyear is such a nice town. Small and quiet but only 35 minutes to the city. My husband and I love it! Happy house hunting!

I think going with a home that is a 2019 or older is best. I live in AZ and over the past couple of years everybody is moving here so companies are building at a fast rate and building houses horribly and not in great areas (ex: they will build on uneven land so in a year or 2 houses have been cracking down the middle). The new builds are very poorly built right now so going with an older house would be your best option in the long run :) I’m also 31 weeks pregnant tomorrow! We are moving from Glendale to Chandler in a few weeks. Chandler area is so incredibly beautiful!

Looking at houses whether you can afford it or not is so fun! Hope you find a place soon! I had an entirely different experience with Ashley Furniture. Bought my dining table there. Got delivered with a giant gouge in the side of the table. And fair warning if something is wrong, their repair team has an F rating with the BBB. They don't respond and keep cancelling. I ended up never being able to get it repaired and just got money back. Very disappointing.
