    I put a 45a ESC and an APC prop (same pitch as stock) on my Valiant and it is a ROCKET, I don't question for a minute that it's booking at 100mph. That said when I did the motor mount started to pull out. I tugged it on out and put it back with epoxy and it's been solid since. I run maxed throws on my ailerons, rudder, elevator. It snaps forwards, backwards, flatspins, just does so much crazy aerobatic stuff. Then you drop the flaps and throttle back and it just cruises around all chill-like. Such a versatile plane. I've never had a flight on it that didn't end with me smiling. One of a very few that if I ever crash it I'm pulling my phone out to order a new one on the spot.

    Just got my valliant today. Thanks to your video, i put it together in no time. I did a modification i wanted to share with you. . The landing gear from the carbon cub s 1.3 meter, will fit right on the valliant because the struts for the valliants floats are the same struts as the lg and float struts on carbon cub s. So if you dont like them noisy wheel pants and rather have tundra tires, just grab some carbon cub s + lg off horizons parts list. They go right on like they meant to be there. And look real nice too!

    I have gotten this plane for 3 years and it is always my go-to. Very high performance, easy and fun to fly/maneuver. You can go extreme aerobatic or fly relaxing like a trainer on this plane. Who is working hard to achieve the same impact. My feeling is, it's wonderful to have different avenues to enjoy this sport. One might be a little "stuck up; per se. A modeler of my standards, I just really enjoy the opportunity. BYW, you have excellent skills. I'm sure Motion RC could use your expertise in the future. Keep it stupid simple (KISS) is what I'm saying. In 2014, I was invited to the RC Expo with Rich - RC Informer. We had a Blast! Also Micheal Herr and Pete. Pete was RC Informers camera person. The Valiant is the best kept secret in the E-Flite lineup, by far. It is fully aerobatic, largely due to the almost-symmetrical wing and minimal dihedral. The real fun thing for me is it looks like a trainer, but turns heads when it's maneuvering in the air. Plenty quick and oh-so-slow when the flaps are down. What more can you ask for? Nothing more fun than a sleeper that catches people by surprise. Kind of like the Tesla sedan that looks like grandma's car, but blows the doors off of almost anything out there. One con (in my opinion) is E-Flite's typical bottom-loading battery compartment. I really HATE having to turn the plane on its back to get the battery in place. BTW - Regarding grass: I find the relatively small wheels and the wheel pants to be a hinderance to flying off of grass, at least in the Bermuda that is the norm here in Oklahoma. Just wish I could handle mine - especially on landings - as well as you do. Really nice review. As always, thanks much for sharing. Steve

    @@BrianPhillipsRC oh it is. Had an old model huey gun ship laying around, took the m134A mini guns and rocket pods off it and am detailing them and mounting them to the RC huey. In the army I was lucky enough to get some rides on some old UH1 hueys that I was told by the crews had been to Vietnam and back. This was as the army was removing them from the inventory so I was lucky HQ was near one of the last operational huey units. I begged for a ride, was told ever Tuesday and Thursday evening. Guess what I did every Tuesday and Thursday evening? Riding in Hueys and taking pictures like a tourist in battle dress uniform. Had lots of fun. I've had this plane for nearly 2 years, and other than trouble with finding motor shafts and vibrating wheels, i have tons of fun with mine. This plane with a dx6e is perfect for low slow passes and one wheel touch and goes. Also, with the size and weight of these planes, I like to fly in 5-15 mph sustained and upper levels make for excellent soaring with 5200 lipo. That's right it will easily fly a 5200 with a bit of mod to the battery box with super snug fit. Great for stol on those heavy crosswind days too..

    All my non-UMX planes with Spektrum receivers are programmed with SAFE Select, AS3X, and No Gyro on the C switch prior to the maiden. It's much easier now with the series of Forward Programming receivers. I use SAFE Select as my Panic Recovery mode, Re-Orient mode, and sometimes Launch mode. This way, I always know where the switch is located. After watching your video, I've set my Valiant up for 32003S packs at the same control surface positions, but with less deflection. Time to see how that does. The 4000 packs are a bit too heavy for my liking. Besides, I don't have too many of them. The the 3200s are only 2 ounces more than the 2200s, not 4 like the 4000s. Also, this plane has zero issues on grass. Just watch that tail wheel. It only clips in and breaks off very easily. Mine snapped off during transport to the field and had to be Foam-Tac'd. Haven't had an issue since.

    Brian, I just returned to the hobby after almost 15 years so I've been working (painfully) up the 2.4 GHz learning curve. Fond farewell ch18 Airtronics gear. I wish I had discovered your channel when I first rebooted because you and camera crew do the best job I've seen putting together model reviews that are just as educational as they are entertaining. So well produce! You've also tapped into the old wisdom that the golden hours of dawn and dusk provide the best light for photographing model airplanes like it does almost everything else. Two requests: 1) I made some mistakes in selecting the Spectrum receivers I initially bought to replace my Airtronics gear, eg., ordering several 636Bs before understanding how tedious the programming could be. Several of your reviews videos have helped educate me along with the Spektrum website, but it would be nice to have a video that focuses on receiver selection, forward programming, etc. And 2) Even as an old timer (the donkey's we rode to school were replaced by school buses by 6th grade), I like the Horizon flying coffee cups. I really lie the Valiant as a great vehicle to do a hobby reboot with. But since I believe you live close to SigMfg, how about a field trip for you and camera crew over to Montezuma. Maybe they would give you their somewhat new T-Clips ARF similar to the one I have in a box in the garage waiting for a build this fall. Anyway you guys are great for the hobby. I recommend you often at my club field. Keep it up! Joe Gist

    Thanks Joe, and welcome! So much to learn, and everyone in the hobby assumes we've all been in it from the beginning, but so many haven't!!! That has given birth to this very strange and amazing opportunity that you're watching, our KZread channel! So glad we got connected here, and I like you're ideas. We have so many videos, you might spend a few lifetimes watching them all, so if you want forward programming, we have much of it, but you'll have to take note of the planes that at PNP vs BNF...we just did the Ultra Stick the other day - great example of VERY detailed Radio Setup. Also, we did a flapperon equipped EDF Jet, the XFly T-A7 just the other day also... just to name a few. We have tons more coming. Here's the caveat to my Radio Setup. If you want stabilization (AS3X) or SAFE (auto leveling) which we showcase almost exclusively, you will want to get these receivers for now... With AS3X/SAFE... AR631 bit.ly/3pYNC3c (there's also one without an antenna for like $5 less - I'll get the antenna - LOL) AR637T bit.ly/3pW3u86 AR8360T bit.ly/3dKg4n6 Here's a few examples of receivers with telemetry, but no AS3X and SAFE... AR6610T bit.ly/33SYkA0 AR620 bit.ly/2QUlyCd If you want to learn how to setup these little guys, they are so easy, just follow along on a couple planes, and you'll be an expert, I promise! Stay tuned Joe - more to come!!! Thanks for being here with us!

    I have 2 of these. One is stock and the other has larger bush wheels. The stock Valiant balances perfectly with a 1800 3S all the way back. Awesome instructional videos Brian!! After watching this video, I got inspired and bought a Valiant from Horizon Hobby in early March 2021 but had not built it yet. I also watched some past videos on the Valiant and people were mentioning engine vibration issue on the Valiant where the whole front cowl and engine broke apart from the plane.. Just wondering if you had any issues so far with the vibration issue. Your thought is appreciated before I built and start flying my Valiant. Thanks.

    Awesome! Not an issue for me so far, but if a lot of people have issues, it could stem from a balance issue on the prop, or a lot of prop strikes??? Who knows.

    @@BrianPhillipsRC I am having a blast flying the Valiant thanks to your inspired video and instruction setup. I have a question that need some clearing.. in this video during your Dual Rate and Expo setting, you are setting all Airelon, Elevator, and Rudder all to Switch F. Does that mean with one switch F (to 0,1,2) we can control all Airelon, Elevator and Rudder in just one switch? Shouldn't it be separately assign to different switches, such as Airelon to F, Elevator to C, Rudder to G.. That is what I am confused about.. Thanks.

    Hi Brian, would I be able to bind this plane to a DX6i radio? The standard overview (on retailer websites) states 'the simple procedure for assigning a transmitter switch to turn SAFE Select features on and off doesn't require any complex programming and takes just a few seconds' 'If you don't want to enable the SAFE Select features, just bind the receiver normally and it will function like a standard AS3X receiver'. Is this possible on the DX6i and if so, which switch would you recommend to use? Channel 5 (gear/f mode) or the aux (flap/giro)?

  • @BrianPhillipsRC

    @BrianPhillipsRC

    3 жыл бұрын

    Sure, no problem at all. Just basically do the same as me, but when you bind, just do the AS3X only method. It's pretty easy. Keep in mind, you don't have RETRACTS, so you could also bind with SAFE and use GEAR channel for SAFE Select if you wish. Either way, good luck, and enjoy!!!

Took it to the field this morning and had a maiden flight and a further battery (buddied up to a more experienced flyer) - loved it!! Very nice flyer and coped with some breeze quite well. Easy to see up high with the 'zebra' striping. Oh, and I fly in non-SAFE mode from the off! One curious thing was happening - the other guy used my dx6i (as the slave) and I had his DX9 as the master. When he 'took control' (via holding the trainer switch in), it would be cause the flaps to be deployed!! Any idea why?

    I think that Ramy is amazingly skilled, and his planes are absolutely beautiful! I also think they would be hugely impractical to enjoy. The harder it is to fly, the less you will fly the plane. I bet he's got 10-15 flights on any of his plane that he spend MONTHS of meticulous HARD work on...so from that standpoint, he is crazy, but from the fact that he's working with his wife, and doing what he loves, and making a good living - he's brilliant! Good for Ramy. ALL of his planes are AMAZING!

    How do you compare it to the Turbo Timber and STOL specifically?

  • @BrianPhillipsRC

    @BrianPhillipsRC

    3 жыл бұрын

    It is smaller, more prone to stall (without LE slats). It's less impressive, but only flew her on 3S... The Timber is quite a lot more plane, but still very capable The Valiant is more maneuverable, and flies inverted better. The Valiant is a lower price point, BUT WITHOUT FLOATS! So they're super similar in a side by side comparison. The Timber has LED's and this does not - That's a BIG deal to me, but some people won't care. Timber edges out this plane in STOL performance, but flies more scale...the Timber is almost TOOO easy (if that makes sense). Timber has WAY better landing gear, but not to say the Valiant has bad gear - they are very good, and plenty adequate for most circumstance... The Larger tires and wheels on the Timber aren't soft enough and they end to get "wiggly" over time...something I hate...but these wheels will be blocked by the beautiful, scale looking, wheel pants. So not sure which plane to assign victory on the gear. They are both great planes. I feel like they're both a great value. They BOTH belong in any serious RC fanatic's hangar ;)

    It's in storage. We need to get FAA to look it over, and it's going to need ADS-b, which further confirms, no such thing as a "Free plane" or free dog...I guess I technically bought the plane...it was very cheap ;) We are considering building an out building, if we do, it might end up out there. We basically need to get an FAA approved mechanic to check it out, and then we would need to apply for authorization to fly it, and also I'd need to get a pilot license too - just those things - LOL :) It's not going to legally fly for some time, if ever. If you know an FAA mechanic that likes to work for free (LOL) please let him know about me :)
