    I love the look and handling of the Valiant. I actually crashed my very first trainer from the early 90's (a couple times) bad enough to have to re-built it (a couple times). It was a 40 size, 63" wing but I covered it with almost identical colors and design as this Valiant. I just got the motor running good again tonight and it's already in the car for tomorrow morning. You guys have really inspired me to do what's fun again. Thanks for all the uploads. And nice job living the dream of flying from your own yard!

    I find that the prop is relatively big on the Valiant and prop strikes are relatively easy on landing if you don't plant that tail quickly. Also, it flies the tail very easily during taxiing and, again the pilot needs to keep the elevator stick hard back to keep the tailwheel in play. Like you, I'm amazed at how quick the plane is with a 3s battery. The wing loading is so light, the virtually symmetrical wing profile, small dihedral and the relatively large control surfaces make for a very aerobatic flyer. I find the wing to be somewhat fragile out toward the tips where it gets pretty thin. The tailfeathers are also pretty fragile. For this reason, I don't think a 4s battery would be a great idea. I absolutely LOVE my Valiant! It's a great choice when you just want to go to the field with something you can throw around the air at will. It always performs, and it always comes back for more. The Valiant and a half dozen 3s 2200's and you've got an afternoon's worth of delight. As always, thanks much for sharing. Steve

    I broke the stock prop on the third flight, my field is grass, and it nosed on landing. Put a slightly more aggressive apc prio on it, and its crazy fast now. 76mph level flight, no dive. My favorite plane in the hanger.

    Earl, I don't know if that sucks, or that's great since you broke the prop on the first day ;( I guess, "happy accident" :) I upgraded the prop on my original Timber 1.5m, and it was CRAZY after going to 13X6.5. I bet this plane would love a bit more pitch ;) Thanks for the heads up.

  • @BrianPhillipsRC

    I appreciate that! It's a great plane, but I've had a lot of people comparing it to the Timber, but it's smaller and cheaper than the Timber 1.5m, so kind of an apples to oranges comparison. I like both, but the Timber might be a slightly better overall value. This plane is more "scale" looking, in my opinion, and takes a little bit more skill to fly, since the Timber is totally forgiving in every aspect. Thanks for being here with us Earl, and if this is one of your favorites, meaning, you've had your eye on it for some time, don't delay, it's EXCELLENT! Valiant 1.3m bit.ly/2X4oNHc

    I bought one of these and it flew so nice I bought another one for my son to fly. Unfortunately the second one has a major issue, I think the fuselage or wing came out of the mold wrong because it flies very very badly. Horizon support is non-responsive. I do love the e-flight planes but the lack of customer support is horrendous. Unfortunately the next step is to dispute the charges with my credit card company unless someone knows a way to actually get them to answer a phone, call me back, or respond to an email.

    We do "Second Thoughts" videos when we have time, usually a few days after we fly the first time, or a few months later, depending on how busy we are. We've had very bad flying conditions, so on this occasion, we had only a few days apart. We just fly when we can, but I prefer to do "Second Thoughts" after 3-4 more planes, so I have some time to really revisit it with more context for our experience.

    Have you flown/reviewed the Timber X or Night Timber X....? For someone who may get another high wing to go with a Cub, just for another more relaxed flyer... would you say this is a better plane to get , or the Timber? (would likely pay extra to get the night timber version)... I'm really hoping to get back into flying my planes again, and I think a new plane would help with the enthusiasm to get put there, since it's been a couple years of them collecting dust in the hangar I'm thinking one like this would be better than a P-51 or Ultimate bike as the next addition... Brian, I love this plane but can't get it to designate a switch on my DX8e to toggle SAFE no matter how many times I try. I have only been flying in SAFE since a week ago when I got it. Have reached out to Horizon multiple times via phone and email to no avail. Any tips? Thanks, love the channel!!

    Here's the stock answer I've been giving out, since I get this question all the time. It usually helps people find and fix one of two common issues... You CAN, and will after you follow these steps - I've had this comment from probably 50 or more, just as adamant as you, and they got theirs working ;) Step 1) Make sure you're BOUND with SAFE SELECT ON. If you're NOT 100% sure - DO IT AGAIN, and make sure the surfaces "Dance" through the mix TWICE at power up...NOT ONCE...Once means you're in AS3X only mode. Step 2) Go to MONITOR MODE, and watch the switch change the condition of the channel you THINK is assigned to the SWITCH YOU WANT TO USE - If it doesn't change state, go to System Setup and make the Channel Assignment to that switch. Now exit the menu and verify the changes took in Monitor Mode. Step 3) Now that you're 100% sure you're BOUND in SAFE Select, and you have an operational switch for channel (I think 5-8) assigned, go ahead and pull both sticks DOWN and IN, and then toggle the switch to a count to 10 (NOT 5)....most people don't count a FULL CYCLE of the switch...so they never get to 5 full back and forth cycles... On step 9 of 10, you'll see the surfaces twitch, and on 10 of 10 they'll "recenter" again. Here's PROBABLY what you're doing wrong...it's a super easy mistake to make, and you'll immediately get it if you are doing this wrong... Switch Up to Switch Down = 1 Switch Down to Switch Up = 2 Switch Up to Switch Down = 3 Switch Down to Switch Up = 4 Switch Up to Switch Down = 5 Switch Down to Switch Up = 6 Switch Up to Switch Down = 7 Switch Down to Switch Up = 8 Switch Up to Switch Down = 9 Switch Down to Switch Up = 10 When Horizon Hobby wrote those instructions they said 5 times, so this is what they meant, but it's confusing if not elaborated upon... Switch Up to Switch Down = 0 Switch Down to Switch Up = 1 Switch Up to Switch Down = 1 Switch Down to Switch Up = 2 Switch Up to Switch Down = 2 Switch Down to Switch Up = 3 Switch Up to Switch Down = 3 Switch Down to Switch Up = 4 Switch Up to Switch Down = 4 Switch Down to Switch Up = 5 ...pretty confusing, right??!?!? Step 4) The ONLY issue that might prevent this all from working is that your sticks are WAY out of calibration... if so, the Tx might not realize you're in the Lower Left or Lower Right position, thus preventing the designation when you hit flip 10... so if this ends up being the case, which I highly doubt, then you need to calibrate your sticks and then follow back from step 2 maybe. Good luck - you can do it!

    I think they are seriously apples to oranges... The Carbon Z Cub SS 2.1m is like 2-3X as expensive, BUT agreeably way more awesome is a lot of different ways ;) Yes, I hit the power lines, and then kept flying for another ~5 minutes ;) There's a bit scuff on the LE, inboard part of the wing. It's totally fine otherwise ;)

    I just got this plane and built it. It is my first plane with flaps. Is it normal for the flaps to make a loud noise when fully deployed? It sounds like the servo is still trying to move the flap when fully engaged. I set it up per the manual at 100% for full landing flaps.

  • @BrianPhillipsRC

    @BrianPhillipsRC

    3 жыл бұрын

    Might want to back them off a few percentage points, and see if the noise goes away...then if it does, check for binding. "Digital" noise is okay, but resistance...and you'll actually burn out the motors!!!

  • @jpap1059

    @jpap1059

    I backed it off to 94% and no more noise at all. It was definitely a binding noise. I’m not sure if I need to do anything else but that seems to have at least removed the noise.

    What's the difference between an AS receiver and an AR receiver? I ask because I have a DX6i transmitter that binds with the AR620 and I don't want to have to buy a new transmitter if I buy this plane.

    I guess I should read the package. The AR620 is a SPMAR620 DSM2/DSMX receiver. So, the DX6i should bind with the receiver in this plane. Am I right?

    2:48 Flight time, and capabilities on 3s seals the deal between this and the T28 1.1m. Some very lazy people can go near the 20min flight time, and over 10 min is the norm with 2200mah. Off course war birds (even T28’s) are irresistible and you cannot match their charm. I am not an eflite fanboy, but on the market there is no plane (except some gliders) that have flight time to capabilities ratio close to this. And it’s cheaper than all the crap stuff (compare with receiver and everything installed). The big downside, but you will have it on most high wing planes: it’s battery hatch location.

  • @BrianPhillipsRC

    @BrianPhillipsRC

    Жыл бұрын

    Great question! Use coordination in your turn, plant the plane in the air, meaning increase the GForce by adding elevator, then also use takeoff or landing flaps, but keep your nose pointed flat or into the ground slightly, then control your altitude by tightness of the turn, and be prepared to add more throttle. It's not as hard as this explanation makes it sound, but when you get it, you'll do it all the time...this is one of the things I couldn't live without in RC flight ;)
