Great plane. A solid addition for anyone to own. A nice prelude to its Biggggggg Brother. I’d like to take a moment to thank you Brian for being the great pilot and husband that you are. For being willing to fly in that cold weather. It’s hard to believe how often Camera Crew drags you outside into those frigid conditions. Making you endure that numbing pain. We all are thankful for your tenacity. 😂 Great video. USA/Sig 👍

Brian, your enthusiasm is contagious. This hobby never gets old for me. I've been flying since 2001 non-stop; I probably have over 100 planes throughout the house and yet this hobby somehow stays fresh.

I love watching your T-28 birds. I was a crew chief in the Air Force on our version of the T-28D which was highly modified for ground support /attack with a larger engine, modified wing support junctions to support machine guns, rocket launchers, and a single bomb. While I certainly enjoy all T-28s, it would be so cool to see the Air Force T-28D produced in say 1.7 meter rendition. Thanks for your amazing and informative videos.

Hello kingarthur that was an interesting read about the T-28D, I didn't know that there was an attack version of the T-28 and it would be excellent to see a large version of this fully loaded plane come out thank you 👍 your friend Marty from Canada 🇨🇦 🛩 🛩

I had the parkzone version, years ago, learned to fly with this bird. Flew it till it nearly fell apart. Sold it to one of my students, Love to see it is yellow. I would give the Jack Black imitation a 6 😀

And, now that I've watched the full video, I can say I fall into the "kids are college age and moving on" demo. I was heavily into RC, in my pre-reproduction and tiny human raising years. And my boys just never really got into it. So, I'm soaking up as much knowledge as I can from you guys. And I really appreciate these videos. Not enough to throw $$$ I don't have at you. But hey! Life's tough. Colleges are expensive and my wife is an avid knitter. Therefore, I have a very tight budget and a need to pick this hobby back up after 2 solid decades in hiatus. That said, I am amazed at the advancements in tech!! I can't wait to get back into this! I really hope my wife is as supportive as yours. Or even half as such 👍

Thks for this final review, in particular your add-on flaperons. I programmed mine, day one, with those flaps following your recommendation and I'm very happy to have them while landing as this bird comes quick to earth without. I have seen another youtuber saying this bird doesn't need flaperons... well not ok with that. It's my first low wing, I'll move on with T-28 1.2 or 1.5 or maybe P47 later on... I have the Radiomaster TX16s and all the forward programming / as3x... were not so easy, but with methodology and your videos helped a lot. By the way, I'm French, so 'Bonjour' from FRANCE.

I have added flapperons to mine, and we have used it in our recent Buddy Box video showcasing NX10 and NX8 pairings. The T-28 doesn't need flapperons, but there is ZERO excuse that the factory doesn't include this feature in their BNF offering(s), but it's easy enough to setup, if you don't mind losing ONE aileron for AS3X and SAFE, OR if you don't mind a full RE-Setup, you can factory default the Rx, and then setup the wing type super easy then....but that's a 1/2 hour long process, and will need the USB to PC Programming SPMA3065 TX/RX USB Programming Cable bprc.me/SPMA3065 - also, splitting the "Y" cable to use up the available channels is easy on this one.

  • @jimmorrison97

    @jimmorrison97

Yes, this is what I did, right aileron on channel 1 and left one on channel 6, channel 5 used for AS3X. I put a brand new Spektrum AR631 so no need to 'reset' the receiver. Anyway I had to reprogram the receiver entirely from my Tx16s (type of plane, control surfaces, servos assignment and direction, receiver placement...), everything works fine flaperons + AS3X switch along with several flight modes. I love this plane ! By the way, thanks for your tips in some of your videos where you explain how to ensure AS3X works fine before to fly. My maiden flight was stress less.

I thought the 1.1m class warbirds were lame, until I got several at a swap meet and then I discovered they are actually a blast to fly, and super capable, and on 4S most of them will do over 100mph if thats your thing. They are also a lot less money, and easy to repair. Hope your happy that the 2m is back and yellow :) Hope to see you fly it by the end of the month.

Lol Brian I love how you are getting more and more crazy. I already have to skip the intros to avoid the ear-piecing 'Hi-KZreads' ha ha, and at the end it is as if they took you away for the day. Probably 'Camera Crew' had enough and wanted a hot cup of coffee. But on a serious note, informative channel, entertaining too, and it is so nice how you are supported by a very able cameraperson. Keep it up whatever you are doing with your hands lol.

  • @flyandplayAUSTRALIA

By the way, I did setup my T-28 1.1m with flaperons too (and spoilerons as well which makes hovering easy!) but discovered the AS3X and Safe only operates on one aileron (the one still connected to channel 2), once you connect the 2nd aileron to its own channel (the aux channel in the Rx). Did you have to reprogram the AR631 so that AS3X/Safe would also work on the 2nd aileron? Still flies great though with only one aileron with AS3X.

Hey Brian and crew, first of all, thx for sharing this amazing video. I own a eflite umx turbo timber, a fms ranger 1.2 and now I'm looking for a "warbird". Is this plane the best option for me or maybe the UMX Voodoo? I use the Spektrum DX6E so retracts in combination with safe select is no option unfortunately. I love to have a P51 in my collection but don't want to invest (yet) in a new transmitter. Greetings from the Netherlands.

I apologize, this might have been a rare instance where I did this with my son off camera. My apologies. We setup flapperons on many other planes, so if you decide to do it, it's not hard to follow along from another model, but you might need to factory reset your AR631 to get it totally right, OR you can just separate the aileron wires, and change wing type to FLAPPERONS, then see if giving up AS3X and SAFE on one of the two ailerons is good enough, OR if you want it RIGHT, you'll have to get a USB to PC Programming SPMA3065 TX/RX USB Programming Cable bprc.me/SPMA3065 (unless you have a NEW one with the FACTORY RESET option in FORWARD PROGRAMMING)...then just do like we did on the Slow Ultra Stick Flapperons mod (less the mechanical install part of the SUS)

This plane would be an EXCELLENT choice for a second plane!!! The Micro Draco is going to be a much "higher consequence"plane, but it's not HARD to fly...there's a difference ;) Higher Consequence, meaning, if you crash, it'll be a lot harder to fix, while the T28 will be much better about a few bumps and scrapes... Good call with the T-28, and you'll never regret a good T-28 flight experience in your belt. bprc.me/T28 VS bprc.me/Draco

Hi Brian, your first videos of this T-28 1,1 were great and this weekend and tired of flying my Turbo Timber 1.5 (with much repairs and too nose heavy) I took the T-28 that I bought used in January more for the receiver than for the plane. But I have to say my maiden flight was a totally dream. I could fly on AS3X with no problem and do a lot of acrobacy like in the simulator although I´m just flying like two months and almost only in SAFE. She fllies fast or slower like floating in the air. Landings on grass were also super great without SAFE. But landing on a narrow road yesterday and today was difficult since it flies faster than my other planes and she rolls a lot too. Yesterday I wanted to brake with the elevator like on the STOL planes and it took off again xD. So I would love to try that FLAPERONS :D Do I need to give up SAFE with the AR631 and a DX8 radio? I like SAFE to recover the plane when I´m doing something crazy near ground. Trying to land with side wind wasnt easy since this baby is so light also. Since I´m flyng mainly on half throttle and sometimes less I can fly almost 10 minutes on 4S 2200 mAh. Thats crazy :D (Since I´m not a native speaker and didnt understood that with your partnership and your mistake (?), but I enjoyed everything second of your video :) Do you still use that fishing rod with the wind sock? xD

You can do flapperons, but you'll give up ONE of the two ailerons worth of AS3X / SAFE action. 1) Separate one of the ailerons from the Y cable, and land it in the opened port. 2) Activate the Flapperon Wing Type, and change things around as necessary. 3) Test, and make sure SAFE and AS3X are working in the correct directions, and as expected. Good luck!

@@BrianPhillipsRC Hi Brian, you are a master :) Thanks for your fast answer! OK so SAFE/AS3X works with just one channel for ailerons always? Probably it´s like a positive signal/current for banking to right or negative for left. With separate channels for ailerons there would be two signals with the same or maybe the opposite current. Maybe it would be possible to put another Y cable to the umplugged servo to receive two signals (one aileron and one flap). But maybe they would be working against. I haven´t get more into how servos works. If they get just one current kick or prolongued to hold its position (??). Thank you very much for your explanation and the steps to follow! It probably works good with just one AS3X aileron as you were flying. But you are an expert! PS: my Draco is just waiting in the basement for the pilot to have enough experience :)))) and avoid any crashes. But I´ll not be flying in the yard or near any trees I suppose xD :D

Hi Brian! I followed your steps :D There are still two things: In SAFE mode my modell has installed a slight mix of rudder with the ailerons (seem to be programmed in the receiver). So if I activate flaps the rudder goes left as the right aileron is the one with SAFE. So trying to land in SAFE would mean the plane does a left turn... shit :P The other thing is that the right aileron that works with SAFE and wasn´t reversed has no more travel downwards. The left one that I have reversed has travel down. I tried to increase the rate but I couldn´t. Maybe on servo setup (?) The only thing I could try is to move the servo arm a couple of degrees. But I think that the servo has more travel left. Or decrease the flap max % and see if then it moves down. Maybe I´ll try it out tomorrow but I´m a bit scared. I have also put every surface to it´s max travel. I´ll decrease the low rate more just in case it is too wild... I realised that your community is getting really big!! Congrats for that :D :D

That's because on this plane, we did it off camera - So sorry!!!! All that has to be done, is to separate ONE of the ailerons, then change Wing Type from 1 Ail to Flapperons, then you'll lose ONE of the two AS3X/SAFE, but it'll still work enough to make it happen.

Brian, I looked at all you video’s in your play list and I don’t see a video making flapperons on the E-Flight T-28 1.1m. I have two of these and they both went into ground! I’m finding the Servo’s with these plastic gears and shaft are stripping out and causing them to crash! I bought two new fuselage and wing sets and bought metal gear servo’s. I’m going be changing all of the in both of these planes. And the couple of successful flights I had on them that they like to float. My RC Club has a tar runway that is only 150’ long and 20’ wide. That is the reason I’m interested in setting up Flapperons on both of them! If you can post a link of the Video that you made to achieve this, I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance Brian! 👍😃

Hi Marty, ok Horizon told me they don’t recommend using metal gear Servos in the plane, but I don’t care what they say! I don’t see the risk of using them to avoid crashes just so they can keep selling me more parts. So this is what I bought. For the 9 Gram aileron servos I bought Part # SPMA335 A335 Sub-Micro Digital Metal Gear Servos. They come with short leads so I had to buy 12” Extension’s. Part # SPMA3053. For the Rudder and Elevator I bought 13 Gram Sub-Micro Metal Gear Servo’s. Part # SPMA392. I haven’t installed them yet and I hoping the extensions are long enough! These where all bought at Tower Hobby and I’m not sure if Horizon would be the same Part #’s. Let me know how you make out! 👍😄
