On the crystal coast of NC we have a mullet run every year we have tarpon, bull reds, sharks and king mackerel we catch from boats, piers and banks in the sounds and the ocean during our mullet runs.

Sweet video Ryan! I ran down to Juno from Vero yesterday after seeing those pics and was looking everywhere for the fish blowing up on mullet but didn’t find em. Crazy how much changes in a day!

Was awesome to see what you guys use. New around here and only have like 14ft beach rod. Pier fishing feels hard and luck from the beach hasn’t been great

Tarpon will surprise you they don't always immediately jump I hooked four last week only one came out of the water at all no huge jumps just go go go

Hey Ryan how come you don't "like" the Accurate Tern? Any other reel of its class you'd prefer? Also what happened with the clicker on the VS lol you never said what happened after you lost the shark.

It had to be fun fighting that.tarpon anyway

Haha, I’m usually unsuccessful, but essentially we snag the line in the other side of the pier. Have one person hold the line with the fish and keep it tight, Then have someone else get a bunch of slack line so they have enough time to tie a splice, they cut it, then they run to the fish’s side of the pier, splice as fast as possible (maybe even skip trimming the tag ends) and reel tight to the fish.

The sheer amount of people who had their rods in your way had me infuriated. The complete lack of social awareness of some people is wild.

Was born and raised in lake worth. From the pier The schools better yet the shoals of mullet went on for as far as you could see north and south for 200 yards off the beach. The pompano bluefish permit snook tarpon shark would be everywhere boiling the water. More catching than fishing!

Can you show the quick splice knots you use and explain the technique? Uni to uni, surgeon’s,Alberto?

I’d just say whatever splice you have the most confidence with and you can tie the quickest. I’ve even done it where I skip trimming the tag ends and just reel the whole thing onto the spool (obviously go back and trim them later)

Why didn’t he try to bring the tarpon to the beach?!

He’s fishing in Miami that’s me and my family on the pier

When I was about 13 so 30 years ago we use to snag mullet with a big treble hook the only difference was we put a lead weight musket ball tight underneath the treble hook just a 1oz to get under the shoal quicker then jag n reel jag n reel almost like your deep water jigging, sadly its no longer legal because some fool took 10s of thousands from around the isle of man in the UK and stocks have never recovered, and once it was a joke that it you needed a short cut across the harbour just walk across the backs of the grey mullet! That's how many their were but now you rarely see more than a dozen In a shoal.

Me personally I would've went the other way with the tarpon and run down to the beach far away from the pier and land him on the beach. Much better land rate and you can take any piercing left on them

I see fwc pass law to fish for Goliath groupers. And keep them

I always laugh at guys at the pier with big bait combos but don't bring a pier net.

Seems like alot of bad fishing leaving a ton of line attached to a hooked fished.

mullet run white mullet strip mullet blue fish catfish jackfish smoked up for winner time shad fish fly corn live worm walmart eat the mullet fish fresh water only time carpfish 4 tapes buffo fish smoked up fish and eggs 5 gallen salt black pepper old bay muster smoked or fri up use case net or rod reel live worm corn bread mullet right not lot of blood way go tip rod reel or case 5 feet live mullet cook up

People not moving is terrible

jeez man most people on that pier were so inconsiderate... like gtfo of the way!!

Bringing the Jack up like that seems unnecessarily abusive and hard on the fish. A lot of channels promote healthy catch and release....that doesn't seem like it.
