Why did the first wild horse have a BLM brand? I thought this was only done after captured for permanent removal. Also have any of these in this video been removed?

Branding or not, is left up to individual BLM management. We have been to 68 herds all over the country and the Oregon BLM is the only one who freezebrands every horse who is gathered. They are also the only ones who routinely release horses back to the range. So, in Oregon, it simply means the horse has been gathered, vaccinated and aged at some point AND returned to the HMA. If you see a freezebranded horse in another state, the horse may have been gathered and branded and then the BLM decided to return them to the range (this was according to one BLM wild horse specialist I asked in WY). There may be other explanations but either way, it's unusual to see freezebranded horses anywhere but Oregon, and of course, Honor was in Oregon.
