Thank you! Just bought a house built in the 60s with a new furnace but only dingy mercury thermostat...pulled it off, saw two wires and panicked for a moment when the instructions said Nothing about two wires as an option. Appreciate you took the time to make this.

All I can say is.....thank you!!! Thank you!!! Thank you!!! I have no experience with this kinda thing. Ran into a couple problems w/removing the old round mercury thermostat. Couldnt identify the wires. Figured out there was another layer to the thermostat where the wires were labeled, but there were only 2 of them. This was the only video I was able to find on installing 2 wire thermostats. You were so easy to understand & follow. Thank you for taking the time to make this! I truly appreciate it!

Brian, thank you for your video. You have helped so many people. It took me hours trying to figure this thing out on a freezing cold night. When I removed the back plate, part of the black wiring bracket was still stuck on the front plate and since I only have the 2 wire system, kept putting them in the wrong place. It was 10pm when we found your video and it saved my family from a very cold and miserable night. Thanks a million for your kindness and taking the time to post this.

Not an idiot!! This was very helpful. Like you said, the manual did not show anything regarding a two wire install. I went to the website for Honeywell, and there wasn’t anything that was helpful on that. If I wanted to wait on hold for over an hour, I guess I could have. Good old You Tube came to mind, and this gem of a video came up. Thank you so much! It took longer to watch this video than to hook it up. Amazing!!

Thank you bro. I called an electrician a couple weeks ago and so far all I have received is voice mail messages with apologies about the delay. So decided to do it myself but grew frustrated when I discovered that the directions were useless for my old school 2-wire system. Next I jumped on KZread and with 2 wire install as a keyword...SHAZAM!! The new Honeywell system I picked up at a local ACE hardware was EXACTLY the one you have !!!! Thanks again for sharing your experience Like another poster, I was just about to return the thermostat today assuming it was simply not compatible. And better yet, I can't wait to tell the electrician "nevermind" (assuming they'll eventually call) and cancel the job because I did it myself.

Got no idea how similar this situation is to mine. Same exact set up, thermostats both old and new and same plank on wall my wife is begging for me to replace. (grandfather built this house in 59, passed away not even two year’s ago. (God bless him. One Fantastic Carpenter, not a very awesome electrician or plumber lol He would say that, but he could do a hell of a lot more than I could with both) So you seen how frustrating installation om houses with 2 wire and not very much info about them. But I can’t tell you how many videos I went thru looking to install the same thermostat you have. I really don’t even know how long I’ve had the Honeywell thermostat sitting on my shelf uninstalled until watching this! thank you Man. I don’t think it matters to you for people who don’t make a living off KZread but definitely a 👍 and subbed!

I've seen a couple of these videos on this thermostat, and it still doesn't work. But now I know that I had it hooked up correctly, my son in law didn't shut of the power before he started guessing as to where the wires went. So naturally he called me to look at it and thanks to your video, I think he toasted something internally. I'm going to have him get a different one.

Yeah man! Thank you! Haha, we are staying quite warm! That's pretty much our issue. When we first moved to our new home in May I switched out the old thermostat with a new one (for the heating system, we have a separate one for the central air). It's an old two wire thermostat. When I took the old one out it had been connected to R and to B. So, figuring that was correct and following the directions, I reconnected the new one in the same way. Well, what is happening is that the thermostat is working as an on/off switch, and ignoring the messages from the thermostat itself. So we've been manually turning the system on and off, as if we let it go the heat will stay on indefinitely making the house quite toasty, and wasting oil unfortunately. I haven't done it yet, but I figure I need to switch the B to W and it should work, I will be doing that once I get home from work today.Stay warm indeed!!

I have an old house with hot water baseboard heating and 1950's honeywell thermostat that works off of 2 wires (called line voltage). it doesn't have A/C hooked up to the thermostat. well, i found a replacement thermostat that works with 2-line 110v-115v systems (not 220v). it's the honeywell model # TL8100A1008. this is the thermostat to get for hot water baseboard systems! just thought i'd post this cause it took me quite a while to find information for hot water systems since they are almost extinct now. hope this helps!
