I've seen a couple of these videos on this thermostat, and it still doesn't work. But now I know that I had it hooked up correctly, my son in law didn't shut of the power before he started guessing as to where the wires went. So naturally he called me to look at it and thanks to your video, I think he toasted something internally. I'm going to have him get a different one.

I think Honeywell must be in cahoots with the HVAC trades when they stamp on their box FOR PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION ONLY. It also says in the instructions that warranty is void if installed by the homeowner. SERIOUSLY?? . I came across the same issue yesterday installing a Honeywell digital thermostat. MANY different wiring diagrams including what they said was for two wire, but when I hooked it up the way the instructions said, it went into fault mode and would not work or even display properly. Said NOTHING about the important step of removing the jumper loop, not any mention of W & R being the important terminals for the common two wire “heat only” system that so many homes still have. SHAMEFUL! Thanks for posting this simple workaround to Honeywell’s conspiracy to get more $$ n the hands of HVAC pros when with the right, simple instructions, any homeowner who can work a screwdriver can do it flawlessly! !

Not an idiot!! This was very helpful. Like you said, the manual did not show anything regarding a two wire install. I went to the website for Honeywell, and there wasn’t anything that was helpful on that. If I wanted to wait on hold for over an hour, I guess I could have. Good old You Tube came to mind, and this gem of a video came up. Thank you so much! It took longer to watch this video than to hook it up. Amazing!!

I installed this on a millivolt heater-only system according to another KZreadr, removing the R-Rc jumper as he suggested. The heater went on and stayed on. I remembered that the instruction manual said nothing about removing the jumper (unless an Rc wire came out of the wall). I hunted around on the floor and found and replaced the jumper and the heater now is controlled properly.
