Thank you so much for this video. My old thermostat went bad last night and it dipped down in the teens. I watched your video and off to Lowes I went. Now my Mom & I are nice and warm without a huge bill from the electrician. 🙏

Thanks. I was also replacing a 2 wire. I opened this new box and was utterly confused. Red to R and White to W . That makes sense and would not have known to take off that jumper!

Oh this made me so happy. I had an ancient mercury thermostat with 2 wires (neither had a color) and bought a thermostat I couldn't figure out. I returned it, got this one you installed and followed your directions and did it. Thanks so much! BTW the instructions say not to remove the jumper if you don't use both the R and RC and I didn't and it was fine. Thanks SO much for this great video!

Looks easier than I thought. We also have a furnace with no fan. Our house was built in '51. The nice thing which I'm sure you've noticed; if the power goes out in the winter for hours, we still have heat. I love that. The only problem I might run into is rather than a red wire and white wire, we may have two or three brown wires. That's what my girlfriend's husband found when he put up a new ceiling fan. In fact, we also don't have a circuit breaker, we have a fuse box. But it's the brown wires I'm concerned about.

I’ll start off by saying, you’re one funny dude. Second, thx for this install video. I also have a 2-wire setup and this Honeywell will suit my needs just well. Would be nice to have a 2-wire WiFi thermostat similar to Nest and the like, but having the function to custom program will be a massive improvement within my home. 5 zones total and I’m running oil, so needless to say this will improve my wallet size in due coarse.

I appreciate your video. Concise. I came to find your video because I thought I was getting the instructions. Turns out Honeywell sent me a defective unit, mine doesn't have the black thing you connect the wires to.. you know "where the magic happens". So no magic for me. 😬. Also appreciate the 2 wire info, since so many people have 2 wire setups. Big fail on Honeywell for not putting that in the instructions as well.

I WROTE THIS COMMENT ON JOHN P'S 2-WIRE PAGE: "I installed this on a millivolt heater-only system according to another KZreadr (THE AMATEUR'S AMATEUR), removing the R-Rc jumper as he suggested. The heater went on and stayed on. I remembered that the instruction manual said nothing about removing the jumper (unless an Rc wire came out of the wall). I hunted around on the floor and found and replaced the jumper and the heater now is controlled properly.

This is very helpful but before I do this, I have a question. It looks like when you take the old wires off and you say "there's just two wires", there does appear to only be two wires. Then after you vacuum out the previous owners dead skin cells, you're showing 4 wires (2 on each side). Could you please say where the other two wires came from because I'm the ultimate amateur and kinda need to understand this completely before I do it.

Nah...There are only 2 wires. You must be referring to the brown shielding on the red and white wires, but I can assure you that there are only 2 wires.

@@TheAmateursAmateur Hey thank you for getting back to me! Cool that's what I thought. Guess where I thought I saw two wires on each side making four wires total... If you said around 4:27 you would be correct. I was seeing the shadow of the brown shielding on BOTH wires making it appear as 2 wires on each side.. ;) Thank you again!

That's some good gunk, wires must come up through a air return cavity.
