His name is Bond, James Bond... and everyone in the universe seems to know it. Seriously, can this guy keep anything secret?
Skyfall: The highest grossing film in the Bond franchise features everything you love about 007; artsy fight scenes, boring landscape shots, and one very morally questionable sex scene.

    Casino Royale did this to a minor extent, while Skyfall went deeper into Bond's life while in unison doing a good MI4 impression (like SPECTRE did with Rogue Nation). All joking aside, I definitely loved this movie.

    +Max Dresser Skyfall barely touched upon Bond's life, the only things it touched upon were he hated his home, and Vesper summed that up in 5 minutes in the train ride in Casino Royale.

    +genmax666 The answers already in the honest trailer. Its overrated because Quantum of Solace fucked up the bar set by Casino Royale. If this came out right after CR, the response would have been less than enthusiastic. Seriously CR is still the best Craig Bond film, and personally the best Bond film.

    Also something to consider: Why hasn't Jason Statham been considered to play James Bond? I do think that Daniel Craig would play Bond better than him, but it's a good suggestion. Statham does all of his stunts for his movies and is really good in that genre of film.

    Silva is undoubtedly my favorite Bond villain. He’s sick, psychotic, extremely intelligent, he’s always one step ahead, and he’s just plain evil. That scene where bond had to shoot the glass off the woman’s head especially shows his evil side. Plus Javier Bardem is a phenomenal actor so that helps

    I also loved how Bond single-handedly gets M killed, but isn't even FIRED. Taking her to his house and putting her in the middle of a gun-fight was, at least, a questionable course of action. I'd suspect that wouldn't have gone over well after an investigation into the events leading to her murder. "So you unilaterally decided to take the head of MI6 to your family estate, without any military support, and just wait for the bad-guys to show up and attack you?" Yeah . . . please place Mr. Bond under arrest."

This movie is an excellent example of a film that I've seen and after watching it I honestly wonder why and how viewing experiences of one film can contrast so sharply from others. I just did not find that greatness that everyone speaks of. It is a good movie though.

    Bond is a morally challenged character, he is "good-ish", but brutal, sexually active, masculine, a bit of misogynist, egoist and flamboyant, also classic subtances' abuser. He's not supposed to be a moral example for children or anyone for that matter. There's nothing challenging about that scene too.

Was Bond a bit of an ass who flirted sarcastically with women (he talked sarcastically and acted like an ass to EVERYONE even his boss) and often rescued untrained female companions? Sure, but that's not the hatred of women. Besides I've watched the originals with Sean Connery plenty of times and he had fight scenes with females who did quite well and some of those females would be sarcastic asses back to him. If what Bond did on any level was "misogyny" then what the hell is real hatred of women? You know like beating the shit out of women, raping them, thinking they are useless, etc. Furthermore sure females were sexualized in the Bond film but Sean Connery was named the world's sexiest man alive and he was sexualized by women in the films and off the films. Admiring the beauty of females is NOT misogyny. Having sex with many women is NOT misogyny and flirting with women or even having a more traditional dynamic with women is NOT misogyny. Loving the female form, loving to interact with women, wanting to have sex with women, etc is actually the OPPOSITE of misogyny. Feminists have overused the word misogyny to the point that the word is now useless and contradictory. (on another point the word misandry wasn't even in the dictionary until very recently which is telling because some women in every era have had true hatred for men....... but men generally don't whine about it and if they do no one cares). He's also not a substance abuser. Bond is a "dark" character because he is a very skillful-well-trained-violent-*cold-hard killer* who originally had a sarcastic, nonchalant, egotistical, stoic, and rebellious persona. Bond can crack a joke with a gun to his head seemingly without a care then somehow end up killing the person with the gun.

But I just figured why it didn't tell us about the memory disk, it's because the movie was trying to continue on what happens next in movie, because they didn't have anymore room to add the scenes that was the whole point of the movie and they just lifted it out of the movie.

    I know I'll probably get tons of hate on here for saying this, but I'll say it anyways: In my opinion, "Casino Royale" and "Skyfall" are the BEST James Bond flicks ever made. Yes, I've watched some stuff with Sean Connery, and his Bond, while iconic, never really felt fully human or relatable. He just felt like a suave agent who girls just automatically would hook up with and he'd just kill the bad guys and be smiling and getting drinks afterwards like it was no big deal. And it seemed as if he could never possibly get hurt or bleed much. Also, yes the older villains may have had witty one-liners or cool ways to try and kill Bond, but again, most of them didn't feel human. In "Casino Royale", Le Chiffre felt very human in how, as he kept losing money, he became more cruel, violent, and desperate like a cornered animal. And who can forget him whipping a fully naked and helpless Bond on his cajones out of pure frustration and rage? And in "Skyfall", Raoul Silva offered the complete package as the ultimate Bond nemesis. He was cunning, insane, brilliant, and truly a twisted person. He represented everything that Bond could have become had he let his inner demons get the best of him. That, combined with a great backstory and a borderline terrifying performance from Javier Bardem, makes Silva perhaps one of the best movie villains in the last 10-15 years. And for all the derision that "Quantum of Solace" gets, let's not forget that, while Connery was excellent as the old, campy Bond, he too had films that were either mediocre or downright bad. "Diamonds Are Forever" was just OK (I'd say roughly on par with "QOS"), and "Never Say Never Again" was just plain abysmal.

    Casino Royale was a great re-invention of the franchise, moving away from the tired cliches of fancy "fits the situation perfectly" gadgets, pimped out nuclear powered cars and super villains with super complex plots to become god-like powerful. Skyfall attempted to continue this but also moved away from the core of the franchise: James Bond himself. James bond is one of those characters that when you're a kid (adult) you think: "he's bad ass, I want to be him". But in Skyfall when he was failing fitness tests and couldn't shoot straight and was clearly beat down by his time in the field and repressed childhood memories (probably of having to live in Scotland) for the first time I though "I don't want to be him". Other bad points: Komodo dragon gimmick. Flintlock pistol duel. Gay bad guy scene (why waste time putting this in just so the film can be called "edgy" and "keeping with the time"? Aren't we all passed sexual orientation by now). Home alone ending. The Adele song (Skyfall doesn't rhyme with crumble - unless you're a cockney). etc etc....

    Bond films has a number of characteristics that separate them from random spy movies. The character has non-supernatural super powers and that's the whole point. One wouldn't take Superman's flying power to make the story more realistic. I don't understand why realism is seen as such an important merit in projects based entirely on unrealistic ground.

  • @swiftnessoffear

    @swiftnessoffear

    tomeofawesomeness I'm not certain of your point. I wasn't suggesting that JB should have super hero skills, simply that he should maintain a certain "edge" over those of us who aren't lucky enough to be secret agents on Her Majesty's pay roll. Also, I think its important that whilst the JB series is a work of fiction, the films should be largely believable and I applaud Casino Royale for its lack of "as if that could ever happen" moments.

    Captain AJB As someone who has seen very little Bond (Goldeneye, about ten minutes of Dr No, Casino Royale, and Skyfall) the question that I always end on with regards to Skyfall is "Is this really a guy I'm supposed to like?" Because, to your point, not only do I not want to be him I wouldn't want to be anywhere near him. I don't know if that's a gritty reboot problem or a Craig problem. The gay thing with Silva I appreciated, just because within a franchise as misogynistic as this (which they clearly aren't distancing themselves from at all) I appreciate the implication that Bond's probably had to fuck a few guys "for information" as well.

    We know Silva got the hard drive and started releasing names (with threats to keep releasing them). But I don't think the hard drive is mentioned again after Silva is captured. I don't think anyone says "by the way, we got the hard drive back, and our agents names aren't being leaked online anymore" ... the story completely shifts at that point to totally be about Silva's revenge against M. Although honestly, I didn't really need it to be focused on more ... because it kind of explains itself that Silva and his entire crew are dead and MI6 raided his island AND they were already forced to pull out all the agents named on the drive ... so most of the damage was already done

    Skyfall was best ever Bond movie. Here is why: A typical Bond movie features high-tech gadgets, a Bond girl usually from the enemy camp, A super-fit bond who kicks the dynamite out of their enemy in their country. Skyfall features a radio with a gun, a battle taken to Bond's office (literally blown), a rusty and tired Bond with no useful Bond girl. This takes the movie away from its usual benchmarks and therefore makes it the best. Unpredictability is not a word often associated with 007 series.

    Sorry, but I've watched the movie yesterday, and I saw that it still has those features (They're just subtle): Spoilers of course - Bond uses a high tech to win the villain (the radio) and in both encounters he uses the gadget/ weapon someone gave him as a last resort (radio/ knive); - Bond fondles one girl that gets him caught face to face with the villain where they have a brief talk to flesh the villain's personality; - six-packed Bond kills every enemy that the villain has in his self proclaimed Island; Sorry for ruin it for you but I couldn't resist to comment. It's still a good Bond movie, I liked Silva's character and Bond being unfit to do his job as in his past years.

    A rusty and tired Bond who is still so cocksure of himself he thinks the best idea to protect M is to drive her up to his old house in Scotland so he can single-handedly dispatch a small platoon of mercenaries (and a helicopter) without any chance of back up apart from an old guy with a shotgun. By all rights Bond should of been killed several times but in typical Bond fashion the bad guy wants to take a few weeks talking to him before finishing him off which is the most predictable part of Bond movies. These films just aren't for me.

    Agreed mostly. I am not a Bond fan by any account but this film would be best in an intra-bond competition. In my opinion any way.

When you see the list of Top 10 Bond movies, Skyfall is in the list. If you don't like this movie, your not a real James Bond fan

    Honestly the funniest part is how most of these are already proved wrong or just irrelevant. I have heard all these complaints to skyfall and debunked all of them. People need to give Sam Mendes credit at least Bond 24 is working on the script alot to not leave potholes for the "dumb" ones.

  • @GoreTAZE

    @GoreTAZE

    The good thing is, did you heard out that Bond 24 is being connected to Skyfall? Cause a few months ago they announced that Bond 24 is being connected to Skyfall as a continuation, by making a part-two story by continuing where they left off in Skyfall, cause Sam Mendes said that Skyfall is unfinished.

  • @ZenNeonRazor

    @ZenNeonRazor

    GoreTAZE1021 Yeah I heard about it but at same time I heard it wasn't. Anyways it mostly likely will tie up loose ends and even after the script finished sam said he wanted to look over it again to make sure there is no plotholes.

  • @gibberconfirm166

    @gibberconfirm166

    9 жыл бұрын

    Huh? The movie is certainly packed with plotholes, which are kinda rooted in Silva's stupid motivation. Like "Dark Knight Rises," "I want to humiliate and destroy somebody slowly!" is just weak writing opening-up "any setpiece you want" in the context of an illogical plot so convoluted even mainstream audiences are annoyed. The franchise had a golden opportunity to extend "Casino Royale"'s neo-SPECTRE plot and squandered it with a terrible film. This was a bounce-back, but the bad writing is a serious nuisance, and some of cool Bourne-type action they appropriated in "Casino Royale" is nowhere to be found.
