Honda VFR1200F Test Ride and Specs

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I met up with a Dark Visor Moto Crew member who let me test ride his awesome Honda VFR1200F.
What a great sport-touring bike! First time ever riding this motorcycle and I just had to see beat his personal top speed record (wasn't hard at all... but it was scary!)

I own one since 2018. Honestly, is a beautiful powerful and reliable bike. However 1) she has vey small fuel tank regarding her fuel consumption and that makes me visit the gas station very often. 2) I have put a central stand, and sometimes I hear that it touches the ground when the road is not perfect. She needs a perfect quality road. She doesn't like imperfections in the road quality. Suspension is good. 3) Brakes: awesome!! 4) The key is very thin and this makes it dangerous to be broken. When opening the top box or the side paneers or the saddle, only the 40% of the key enters in the keylock. That is dangerous to be broken or twisted (I broke one with my arm while it was inside the top box locker!). So be careful with the key!!!!! 5) Definitely a heavy bike. Be careful on small moving or during handling after of before parking. 6) You can not go slow. It seems everyone else goes slow! But with respect!

It's great to read about other's appreciation for this bike because it's a rather underappreciated motorcycle. The build quality is astounding and I'm sure Honda poured it's finest resources into creating it. It's definitely more "sport" than touring but it's just right for me especially since I live in So. Cal. This bike is made for this place. Mine is a 2013 that I bought in 2017 with only 3k mi.! Right now I've got 49k mi on it. it's blk/silver with a ton of carbon fiber goodies. The best mod was the device that is a plug & play that allows for full power in 1st and 2nd. It's a MUST HAVE that only works for the manual trans model. I have the stock exhaust and muffler but with a cool carbon fiber cover that replaces the chrome cover. As for the fuel capacity I find I can rip along for over 90 min and still have plenty of gas. By the time I'm ready for gas I'm more than ready to empty the bladder. If I was going to travel where fuel stations are far between I imagine that I'd take a spare gas container. Between my '89 F1200 & my 90. VFR750f, both of which I put over 100k mi. on, It's been my favorite sport touring bike and I've owned a ton of bikes. Nothing compares. What's really cool is that with all the luggage, side bags and top case, I can still split lanes here in CA with no problem. So many bikes are just too wide with luggage attached to go between traffic. For road trips I add a tank bag and soft tail bag for the passengers seat and I'll be able to carry all I'd ever need for weeks of traveling. The only downside is that if I ever decided to live in any other state besides CA I'd probably sell it because I could never ride it like I do here where at any place (but school zones) you can blaze around and actually USE the power. Have Fun & Ride Safe! :) kzread.info/dash/bejne/nH6Tt8qGZcWXXag.html

Top heavy which you don't notice when driving along good roads but get it on a pot holed gravel filled car park and you certainly do...have to be very careful. Had a few near misses and nearly dropped over 18000 miles whilst parking etc. Wonderful tourer. Never had centre stand grounding like one guy commented.

Great video. I have exactly the same model, 2012 DCT. Live 6 months SA & 6 months UK. There is NO better performance long distance super comfortable and extremely well planted machine than this shaft driven beauty. It ticks all the boxes for me. It was never created to be a Blackbird replacement . For someone who needs power on tap you will go very far to find something that rides so smoothly, is so predictable in handling but yet allow that needle one iota past 8500rpms and she starts barking & howling as she screams through to 12000 when she activates the full brunt of her V4. Yes the fuel tank is a measly 18.5l, and yes she's a heavy girl, but like I said- I haven't yet ridden a bike that offers this much long (&short) commuting excellence build upon an extremely well thought out chassis and Honda durability. Also have the BMW GS 1250 and like the X Diavel from Ducati. But that isn't nearly as practical or comfortable. The best part is the price. The quality and performance vs the price for a well kept 2015 model today is an absolute steal. Great bike! Thanks for sharing.

@@Darkvisor have you tried a DCT? I test rode one expecting to hate it. But I thought it was great. Honda had it setup just right. They obviously have lots of data from F1, lots of advanced car racing, advanced bike racing (MotoGP etc) so they know about racing automatic gearboxes, when to change, etc. I was coming from my Fireblade straight into the DCT and I was hoping they'd release a DCT Fireblade. Maybe a seamless gear change, like in MotoGP. Where the bike is always in gear so you never lose any speed! It's not like driving an old 1980s lazy car auto. It's more like a really good sports car with advanced auto. After years of sportsbikes I was looking for fast while also comfortable for a few hours.

I don’t own this bike but I know that in general, fuel economy mainly depends on the rider and how he/she rides. I know people complained about Yamaha MT10s fuel consumption but when I owned it I have very good mileage in comparison to what they said. But I hope an owner can answer you as well. Thanks for watching my video

Great bike but I can't get over the fact that they're shaft driven, not a bad idea for a touring bike for sure but kinda seems to be a case of "because why not" 😂 theorizing a bit but maybe the shaft drive is the sole reason why they're restricted to around 250 kph? after all Busas could hit 300 even with restrictions and they didn't even have as much power as that Honda IIRC 🤔 Hope you get to 100k soon DV 💪

I have no idea why they are shaft =P Don't know about restriction also, think it has to do something with local laws or such, I don't know =P Thanks for watching buddy and I'm hoping I will get to 100K soon. "Only" 24.474 more subs to go... hehe

Shaft drive is an advantage for me! I do not like chains, always dirty and you have to change Them too often! Touring bike with shaft ist perfekt for me!

I ve been riding a 2012 fireblade, now sold it and planning to pick a used 2015 vfr1200. Will i feel underpowered after riding a Supersport?

I've not ridden a fireblade and not too many supersport bikes but I would say that this bike will not feel underpowered. It's a great bike with loads of power =) Thanks for watching

@Darkvisor thank you for the response, and I don't see many hardcore riders on the vfr, is it because it is bit soft or because of the dct?

@@deepakraja591 vfr comes with manual gearing and DCT. why you don't see hardcore riders, I think that's because not many "young" riders are getting it. It's a sportstourer so I guess most people who buys it are older more "calm" riders who still want something that packs some power.

I had a 2010 and I traded it for an Africa Twin when it rusted away - I treated it quite badly. I wish I'd just traded it for a newer VFR1200F as I miss the awesome power from 70mph+ and the way it eats up long distances. It's heavy and the fuel tank is laughable, but the engine is an absolute peach.

Yeah sure is a great bike but the Africa Twin isn't bad either. =) Thanks for watching

Sounds annoying but can be solved with a very cheap solution. Old school style: Follow the odometer and see how far you’ve gone since last gas station ⛽️ 👌😎

I think the official "name" for these bikes are: Sports Tourer a combo of a sport bike and a touring bike. Personally, I dont like to ride longer travels with that riding position too. But to each own =) Thanks for watching, please subscribe to support me and my channel =)
