VFR1200F FIRST trackday @60fps

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Honda VFR 1200 F on track...
Why? For fun, for the joy of riding, for trying something new (also, my first ever trackday).
0:00 Intro
0:26 Track&bike specs
0:45 Track sighting with forerunner
1:30 One on-board lap with raw sound
4:41 Official event photos
Overview:
The Honda VFR1200F is a sport-touring class bike and is quite heavy for this task (270kg wet), which is obvious during the braking for turn 1 but the front dual 6-piston monoblock calipers help a lot; the long wheelbase is comfortable for long journeys but here it penalises on the many slow turns, otherwise the bike is surprinsingly agile and satisfying, a wonderful do-it-all machine. :)
The best laptime of 2.24,7 was acquired on standard street tyre pressure (2.5 & 2.9 bar) which i lowered in later sessions but i had not enough entries to get used to riding with lower pressures as the track was redflagged due to heavy oil spillage from another class and some sessions had been cancelled.
Actually, some turns should have been taken in 1st gear but changing from second to first was quite abrupt and I just stayed in 2nd gear for all the slower turns.
The bike was running on Michelin Road 5 tyres (the regular ones, the non-GT spec).
Track length: 4129m
Main straight: 960m
Session best laptime: 2.24,755
Average speed: 102,7 km/h
Top speed: ~230km/h

I have a blue VFR1200. I waited decades since my old 1984 VF1000F. I really love it - even today when it doesn't have all the electronics of newer bikes. It's the quickest bike I've owned (bought it new 10 years ago).

People who criticize this bike for its weight and wheelbase seem to forget that this is not a racer. It's a touring missile with factory luggage engineered to handle speeds up to the factory limiter that can also do the "sport bike" thing on a twisty road. It will never be as nimble as a proper sport bike, but a proper sport bike will never feel as comfortable or stable blasting down the highway. 120mph on this bike going down the road is borderline boring because of how well it does it.

Absolutely beautiful! Loved the POV shots - was leaning with you through the turns ;) Also felt you were not aggressive enough, but yeah 1-2-1 gear is a bit choppy on our bike - Also: LOVED the soundtrack vibe for the video - wish we saw more on the VFR 1200f these days - super under appreciated bike - Last: like the shot of the wheels

If you compare speed at 1:13 with 3:47 there is a difference of 25-30 km/h, both situations with traffic ahead. Also at 3:16 the guy in front of me was very slow and i was "commenting" with my left hand... :))) at the end of that straight i should have topped at 180-190km/h, and i was doing 155 max. Anyway, there were other newbies on the track (me included) but others were scaringly slow (see 4:37) so a little bit of carefullness didn't mind. I was not pushing to max, because i had no other means of transportation back home (~200km away) so i had to keep the bike in good shape. The purpose of the day was to taste the track for the first time and enjoy it within normal limits, not to trash the bike. I just avoided 1-2-1 gear changes, yes it looks slow in 2nd gear at 50km/h and there was definitely more bite to throw at the brakes but i was not there to beat the track record. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your bike! Cheers!

I agree with long and heavy, but the torque is great. The breaks are good too. I have a blue 2012. Be carefull when shifting down to 1, if you have to much speed and high rews going in to the corner the 1 gear might lock up the backwheel temporarily due to the strong motor. It has happen to me and can make your heartbeat go up a little bit *LOL*

True, even if the bike has the stock slipper clutch, changing to 1st gear is not desirable especially when leaned over due to weaving. Locking the rear wheel never happened to me on this bike. The brakes are wonderful, better than those on a sportbike.

Talk about torque … when he easily catches up after the curves - I could feel it as if I’m on my own 2013 - Such a strong pull!- +1 on first gear you really have to get a feel for the rev zone ‘allowed’

There is the engine sound where it mattered the most which is during one of the timed laps, the rest of the video is static pictures and footage with ambient music from the audio speakers at the track, you would not want that poor quality over... Thanks for seeing and appreciating it!
