Thank you so much for this video!!! I was stranded at a gas station 4 hours from home without gas because my gas door wouldn't open. Because of your video I was able to get access to that cable and pop the gas tank door so I could come home last night. I held the cable together and pushed down on the lever and presto. Today I'm going to get that kit that you talk about so I can actually fix it. I don't know how to thank you enough. I am going to like and subscribe and share with all my friends.

My 2006 had this problem. I could open the trunk but pushing to open the fuel door would not work. The fuel door can be opened by pulling the cable from the trunk in a pinch. I replaced the entire cable. A new cable is not expensive from Honda, only about $30. My dealer, however, claimed it was a $600 job because they have to "tear the whole car apart". The procedure is fairly simple and clearly documented in the service manual for anyone wanting to diy.

@@enesertt_ You have to pull on the truck latch cable. Pulling from the trunk end has the same effect as pushing the handle in the cabin to release the fuel door. You'll need a tool or a small length rope to do it. I had an small length of rope attached to mine for months before I finally replaced the cable.

Had this happen. Used tubing from Lowe's (think it was hard plastic water line for a refredgerator) and cut slots in either end and metal pin retainer clips to hold the cable in place inside the tube. Works great.

Locking doors came about after the 1974 gas crisis. Gas was hard to get and people were siphoning (stealing) gas out of cars. In my family there were many Honda’s including a 92, 96, 97, 98, 02, 06 and none of these had this problem. Each of these went well over 150,000 miles. Only problem was the hood latch (on the 98, sold this one with 170,000, it was a stick, & sold it for health problems ), plastic broke & I used a pair of pliers to open the hood. I currently have a 2009 CRV with 118,000miles and no such problems.

Hi Jim, had this happen at the gas station this morning. My metal piece is actually still attached to the white plastic. All go there, but the black sheathing has pulled loose from the metal clip. Will the Dorman kit work for me? Had you seen any break in this fashion? What might be my repair solutions? In the interum, how do I get the fuel door open to fill the gas to get to work? Is there an emergency area to pull in the trunk somewhere?

Jim - I have a 2010 Maxima. When I start it in the morning, it makes a noise - gruh, gruh, gruh, gruh, gruh. When I back out of the driveway, it makes the same noise a few times - gruh, gruh, gruh. It does not happen the rest of the day, even if the car sat for 4 - 5 hours. The sound seems to be coming from under the hood, seems like by the firewall? Do you know what it might be? No idiot lights are on and everything works in the car. Thanks.

Jimthecarguy - Why is it that symptoms go away when you're trying to share them with someone? I took my tablet into the car to capture the sound two days in a row and you guessed it - nothing. The next three days, I forgot the tablet and you guessed it again - made the noise each of the three days. What's up with that? I'll try again to capture the sound.
